GH3 on hands for around an hour what do you want to know?
KarimNassar replied to KarimNassar's topic in Cameras
Ok so I just recorded someone on both. Same aperture same ISO same wb but it was noticeably darker on the gh3. Will double check and try again -
GH3 on hands for around an hour what do you want to know?
KarimNassar replied to KarimNassar's topic in Cameras
Ok so the I.dynamic mode only automatically corrects contrast and exposure but does not boost dynamic range. There is an I.Resolution mode which "records pictures with more defined outlines and sense of clarity" wonder if that is an intra camera sharpness boost will try if I can. -
GH3 on hands for around an hour what do you want to know?
KarimNassar replied to KarimNassar's topic in Cameras
Ok mate I already planned to shoot someone with both but the lighting is bad here of course. Will do though. One thing it says regarding avchd is that it is best for HDTV but that QuickTime is best for video editing. So wich is highest quality? -
Hi I have access to a gh3 in a showroom with very little people. It's a preproduction model with .5 firmware. I brought my hacked gh2 to compare. But I am bit limited because it is a public demo can't take it ou of here but I am allowed to record to my sd card. What do you want me to check out?
If you look carefully, during the Start of the video, at the mini wall, adjacent to the pavement, you will Notice, that it DOES share something, very Unique, with the GH2. Namely … ... ... ... The (return of the ) ISO Bug … roflmao … :P
oh wow it is flashing indeed....your post made me laugh ;) but how sad is that! I kept saying to myself I'll just wait for more footage, but the more footage released the biggest of a disappointment it shapes up into. That's it, no gh3 for me. really hope bmcc get their pipeline figured out and start shipping very soon. Basically nothing else interesting in that price range now.
Wow. Look at this one Download the original file, and look at the vent in the back near the door and table; also, the border dividing the carpet and floor.
ok now it just keeps getting worse isn't it? And before we even get into the "new high dynamic range sensor" that we can't see, or the moire and aliasing....where is the detail rendition?? I have not seen a single video that seems to have the same rendition of detail and sharpness as the gh2. I want to see a side by side comparison with the the gh2 on that alone. Forget the new features that aren't there and the worsening of image quality, I think that they did not even keep the same sharpness and detail rendition of the gh2 to begin with. With the bmcc not even shipping yet and the disappointment that the gh3 is shaping into...sad.

so are they shipping yet?

I agree with Axel. Also most of the time it simply won't work because each situation has a different lighting situation so there is no premade recipe that works for everything. I mean the software will always work by giving you the same premade look, but it most likely won't be the best thing for your shot. And he has an excellent point, we tell stories, use the look to enhance the scene and story. To be fair software like this can be used as a starting point or give you some ideas when you are out of inspiration. But you definitively are better off making your own looks based on the requirements of your movie.

The photography blog (http://www.photographyblog.com/) has some new gh3 footage "This is a sample movie at the highest quality setting of 1920x1080 pixels at 25 frames per second with 72Mbps in ALL-I. Please note that this 14 second movie is 124Mb in size." Right click and save as: http://img.photograp...onic_gh3_01.mov Looks bad to me, does not have good detail looks muddy and videoish, and even though it seems to be raining the sky is fully burned out and pure white, where is the "new high dynamic range sensor"?. Am I the only one let down by what we have seen so far from the gh3? Don't get back at me with the specs on paper, I've read them and they looked good. But the footage I have seen so far does not.

Have a look at this beautiful video shot by Dusan Husar with a 5d mark III: http://vimeo.com/49322130 Really shows that we are the tools to make great pictures and not so much the cameras. I thought it was really an inspirational piece and wanted to share it with you. Hopefully this will motivate some of you and push you to get the most out of your own gear. Because it definitively inspired me! :-)
Good interview, I think it touches on all the important questions for EF owners. Shutter angle how old school. Is there a warranty on the shutter? Time for a refresh on shutter angle's... http://www.shutteran...speed/#more-677
With the camera sensors now being electronic, why keep the shutter angle option on the new cameras?

Shooting with the new SLR Magic 35mm T0.95 and T1.4 prototype lenses
KarimNassar replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
is this their website? http://www.slrmagic.com/products.php where do you guys order from? If that is their website I find it quite confusing, where is the full products list? -
thanks Jeremy! The boxer one is not anamorphic though, it is shot with the canon fd 85 s.c.c. I am no expert but diopters are very straight forward actually. Once you have one in your hands you get it instantly. They are nothing more than a loupe. So they allow you to get in focus shots with anamorphic lenses that have a big minimum focus distance. Some of the better ones are called achromats, which means they are designed to reduce chromatic aberrations. Yes the la7200 is the easiest and fastest to use. Let me know if I can help you out regarding anamorphics, although Tony Wilson a member here is much more knowledgeable than me on the subject!

also interested in clips Andy and whats the lens support you are using on the anamorphic? thanks!

Finally! An explanation from Blackmagic - Andrew got it right.
KarimNassar replied to pipkato's topic in Cameras
definitively nice to finally have some transparency. If it's only the packaging that was causing the issue like they said then they should be good to go very fast. We will find out soon -
This has to be a troll post right? Alexa B-cam? for $1299? HAHAHAHA! They didn't listen to complaints? I'd say they answered most of them -DR
please do share with me the footage you have seen that demonstrate higher dynamic range than on the gh2. all I have personally seen are blown highlights and crushed blacks.
-codec
supposedly better codec but now has aliasing and moire so worse end image quality. some of you guys say firmware might fix this...ok let's find out in due time I guess
- Low light performance
really? The only low light shots I've seen where the ones on reverie. And I don't know if you have downloaded the 1080p version but it shows heavy dirty color noise. The french guys vid is just bad looking and has no download option anyways so can't judge from the video compression. All of the post I've seen from people being happy about the upgrade are only parroting the specs sheet. Yes the specs sheets on paper are nice but I have personally not yet seen them translate to quality footage. That is all that matter. Remember a camera that has poor spec sheets but has great image quality? Yeah the gh2. -
Too short ;)
haha absolutely true! There is a reason though, I am in pre production for the entire clip so pointless to make anything longer than that. All my vids so far are exercises and not final products meant to entertain. Although I do hope they are entertaining and interesting for other beginners like myself. This clip is nothing like what I want to do for the real thing though, I'm looking into elaborate light setups at the moment. And I am looking into other cameras as well, I will only use the gh2 if the limited budget forces me to. the problem is budget of course, rental, both lighting and camera, is expensive... thanks for watching always nice to get feedback! :)
hi karim ! can you tell me please what was your setup for the boxer's video ? and if you could specify which lens and lightning you used that would be great ! Great job !!
3 lights setup two rims on each side, one fill light in the front lens was 85mm canon fd s.c.c. for the close up, other shot I can't remember you should check my channel on vimeo, I answer all of these questions in the comments ;-)

I'd gladly contribute this week end by pushing the footage in post from your raw files Andrew to see how they hold up. And then share the results here. Sadly I most likely won't have any time until Saturday. If you have the time to do a quick edit until then I'd gladly take a glance at something like this: I took some of my raw gh2 footage and simply recovered the shadows and highlights in AE. Would be nice to see the same before and after on the gh3 footage if you can. Using the new high dynamic mode of course :)
-
really looking forward to your footage Andrew please shoot something with a high dynamic range and post the uncompressed file I want to see how wide the dynamic range really is including when shadow and highlights are recovered in post

My thoughts exactly Astro So far it has only looked good on paper And what we've seen looks like markII footage wait and see fingers crossed
