Overheating also supposedly degrades image quality, as the h264 encoding chip suffers. Only read that in forums about the 550D, but since cooling always is a big issues with computers in general, digital cameras will be somehow affected too. Maybe someone here can elaborate further and post some proof...?

I REALLY like it, although 500€ should be the price for the EF version. I took the BMC in my hands on a presentation last week and there simply was NO WAY to hold it comfortably. They had the Zacuto top-handle with FF setup, which balanced strangely. Sure, in a full rig, there will be not that much difference to a bigger DSLR body, but the RevoRing seems to just add the most necessary "material" without making it even more bulky. This now looks ready to pick up and shoot, very interesting for my documentary shooting style. But please Revo, drop the price before the Chinese copycat you again (or maybe that´s why it is a bit high in the first place...).

Rent a FS700 and charge it to the client. Other than that you might even be better of with a non dslr camera that can do 1080/60p, like the RX100 and try around. Other than that - what Axel said.

Checked out the D600 in a store in Barcelona, wanted to know how it would "feel" not to be able to change aperture, because I guess for most VDSRLers this is second nature, no matter how it is changed on each cam. I didn´t have a fader with me, nor did I bother to ask for one, but it didn´t "feel" good, not to have this control when I was panning through the store. Still, in 95% of my shots I leave the iris kind of open and adjust with the fader.

The Canon guy in that german Photokina Video said "this camera is filming in the new 4K format, that means four times full-HD resolution"... Well...

Lowlight and DR. That´s what I´m interested in. Lighting and controlling ratios is time consuming and expensive. For documentary (style) work it is the difference between getting a shot or not getting it. Will not be of anyones concern here, but I really hope we see some more test footage dedicated to this soon...

I know many indies won´t care, but NO FREAKING HEADPHONEJACK? This sooo obviously is a deliberate crippling to make a video centric pro/con when deciding between the MIII and the 6D. I will never ever buy a dslr without a headphone jack again. Not if I intend to ever use it for video. Again this is from a documentary/one-man-army perspective. But even if I´m just recording a sync track, who wouldn´t want to check what´s ending up on camera? But what I´ve seen so far, it looks like a system/mount change for me anyways.

[/quote] True, but they still are giving us a small(er) sensor, compared to the others. (I´m not starting a chip-size discussion here, just stating a fact. We all know what images the GH2 is able to deliver...) The M4/3 design has gone retro all over (from what I can see) and the GH3 still tries to mimic a DSLR. So IMHO potential buyers will not compare it to the OM-D or a (bigger chip) Fuji, but rather to APS-C cameras. The GH3 has of course much improved, but people will compare it to the D7000, the 650D/T4i and of course the 60D and 7D (with still pending updates). Sony has introduced (and Fuji probably will) FF to the compact camera segment. The 600D also shrinks body size. APS-C is already there. So big chips in small bodys can be done. As much as I´m exited about the GH3, as hesitant I am to buy it considering the latest developments.

I always catch myself wondering about MFT and its depth of field. Then I remember how happy I was with the DVX. The XL2. The HVX. MFT is plenty enough.

Glenn, checked your Vimeo and now understand your original post better. Inspiring what you pulled off with "just" a S95. I can see now why slomo is of importance for you. But I can also see the RX´s larger sensor helping you separate the talent, just like in your NEX5 vids. Besides that, since you work with minimal setup, I can´t really see, why you wouldn´t want to shoot with a bigger camera. A used 550D with the kit zoom lens and ML would shine in your hands and wouldn´t break the bank. But that´s your call and you´re doing great already.

I really see me buying a GH3, with at least some improvements over the GH2, just to do stuff the BMC is not as practical for. DSLR video is not over ;) Also, IBC starts this week and Panasonic has to come up with sth to get talked about again. So I wouldn´t rule out a AF200 (or even two new AF cameras). It won´t come close to the BMC specs, but it should at least be able to top the FS100 and C100 somehow, considering it´s predecessor´s debut time... I still hope Germy1979 is right and at least on Pana engineer got wasted, went to the lab and soldiered in that magic circuit board, lifting all limitations from the GH3´s hardware...

Just a general note: Photokina is starting at the 18th of this month, we´ll most likely see a GH3 there, so GH2 (used or new) prices will fall too.

I´m pretty sure most people will shoot 99% ProRes with the BMCC. Still, no need at all downplaying the RAW capabilities of a 3000$ camera. Because there will be times, you´ll use it. And: nothing keeps people from buying a GH3 or 7DMarkII for Run´n Gun/ENG/ Event work. That´s the nice thing about the BMCC, it doesn´t need to be the "on-for-all" camera you´d expect when you just spend 15K on a C300...

If audio for you "makes it or breaks it" you should not depend on the onboard sound anyways. If smallness is the main goal, I´d get a Zoom H1 and a Sennheiser MKE400 or the newer Rode Videomic Pro (I prefer the Sennheiser´s sound but the Rode overs a tad more functionality once you´ve dealt with its rubber suspension). Maybe also a MK2 lav, the MKE2 is much better, but the MK2 works better with the ZoomH1 and sometimes can be bought cheaper from people who got it with their G2/3 wireless kits...
