GH3 with timecode, XLR, peaking, OLED viewfinder and magnesium alloy body
Zach replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
No adjusting of audio levels while shooting? What planet are you guys from? I guess you would just glue the knobs of a Sound Devises mixer after a first initial check-check?
I suppose it depends on your line of work? But thats a pretty silly assertion! You obviously need to change levels from shot to shot, though I don't see why you need to DURING a shot. I film a lot of musical performances where its figure out the levels and leave them. -
On documentary shoots you often adjust levels while recording. These tunnelvision comments are ridiculous. People shoot differently and want features that support their style of shooting.
I never have, though I suppose your last statement is correct. I'm not sure why one would need to, especially in camera. -
That's funny, you wish you had all these professional audio connections but then you'd pass on the ability to actually adjust audio levels while shooting? Hope you were being ironic...
The desire for this by video people amuses me. I can't imagine why you would ever need to adjust audio while recording. They don't do that in the audio world! You check your levels and leave them be. -
Sony A99 revealed with new video optimised full frame sensor
Zach replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
It appears the Nex-6 has the same hot-shoe connections as that A99. Does this mean you can use the new XLR jack with the NEX 6? If so, that would mean a DSLR with proper audio for about $1600 -

The aliasing on the front of the car is not very pretty. Thankfully it doesn't seem to be too horrible in the rest of the shots. I would like to see more tests that really push the camera to see if more aliasing shows up. -
So rumor on the street is that the GH3 is going to be weather sealed. This is huge for me as I do so much outside when weather is often unpredictable. And of course I need to be able to continue shooting in the rain! I'm wondering what the best weather-sealed options are for the M43 platform. Obviously the new lenses Panasonic is coming out with, the 24-70 equivalent and the 70-200 equivalent are both weather-sealed, I believe. Anything at the wide end? I suppose I could go with some Canon L lenses but do M43/EOS adapters compromise weather-sealing?
Black and white sensors are pretty damn niche in 2012.
$42K black and white sensors even more so.

I have a bit of a request from someone that has access to RX100. I am seriously interested in buying one, but am interested to see how it looks on talking head type interviews. I do a lot of documentaries and a lot of 'monthly news' for non-profits. Just need to see how it handles skin tones and such, and how it would look rendered to 24p. Anyone aware of any such footage or able to take some? Even a picture would of a well lit face would be helpful
In some legal jurisdictions, such as Europe, it cannot record more than 30 minutes as then it is legally re classified as a camcorder, and enteres a different tax bracket As good as the GH2 is, why would you use this and not a Sony VG-20? It won't happen anyway
I would venture to guess that most people don't care about the tax bracket, and just want the time limit lifted. Why suggest a VG-20 just for the record time limit when it is comparatively lacking in so many other aspects -
Certainly a good idea for more than one reason. Of course gh2 gets warm too but I think RX a little bit more.
Yeah, its definitely more versatile and I can share lenses between the GH2 and 3 if I have both. Though, the idea of having a camera as small and portable as the RX100 is so appealing to me.

Thats a little bit of a bummer. I was going to get one in addition to a GH3 - depending on its performance. Maybe i'll just pick up a GH2 as a b-cam for the GH3
-
This video here mentions he had problems with overheating every 15 minutes or so. Has anyone else had a problem with this? I really do need the 30 minute record time, as I was planning on buying one of these as a B-cam for some wedding footage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZ9m845DFYI
Why would i cripple my set of $20,000 Zeiss lenses on this camera. Yes codec is nice but camera is not. Blacks are crushed, it is no good in low light, digital processing inside camera head is nothing special. For somebody new without any glass it is ok to get it with Tokina 11-16 and 16-50 . Others with their current Canon glass might as well to get into Astronomy :-). It is cheap but it is camera for 2 months.
Well, I'm not entirely sure this camera is marketed at those with $20,000 Zeiss lenses :)
I'm really looking forward to GH3! I never quite made the jump to GH2 from EOS, but my mind is still open, they have someone here they could sway
I am in the same boat! I've got about $2500 saved up and i'm just waiting for photokina to see which company will get my money!
Maybe the GH3 will be 4K with 10 bit and 422? Wouldn't that rain on Canon's parade?
I kind of doubt the 4K part, but yes that would be quite funny I suppose.
This is true. However, I'm not so sure I'll be able to get a GH2 for $350 after the show. ;-) I'm sure in time the GH2 will drop in price and the GH1 will come down even more but I have a feeling that wont happen right away. There's even a that this will just be an announcement and then we'll have to wait for 2 or 3 months till it's release. And, there's even a strong chance (from what I've been reading at least) that the GH3 will be more expensive and cause the GH2 to hold it's price for a while. What would be really disappointing is if they also came out with an in expensive replacement for the GF2 that had more of the higher end video features of the GH2. Now that would suck... or I mean, would be cool but would suck for me. ;-) I did some more research and was able to find out something that's kind of disappointing about the GH1 but not a deal breaker: HDMI out only works for playback. So, no external monitoring for me. I think I'm just going to do it. Right now I just need to get a camera that shoots better quality movies then my video camera so I can start shooting stuff for myself. I haven't been able to find a GH1 for less then $400 on the internet so I think this a pretty good deal. Does anyone else have anything to add?
At that price, you really have nothing to lose. It would be a great way to get your feet wet with DSLR video, and if you come to find out you truly just hate it, you can always sell it for the same price or possibly more. Nothing to lose, I say go for it!

Agreed to an extent. I will certainly not be touching any RAW footage in the next few years. I've got the processor to handle it, but not the patience. I don't think I can justify the time spent in post and the extra HD space!

Weather sealing is good. Is there a place i can find a list of weather sealed lenses for this mount?
