  1. Great, another announcement of a possible announcement.   I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that today, rumours of a 4K Alexa are rife.
  2. Here is a quick test video i made to see the difference between the 24p and 60p modes.... Might be helpful to others: https://vimeo.com/69690120 I don't have a Vimeo Pro account, but you can download the .mov here: http://www.stylecreative.net/uploads/slomo.mov
  3. yes, please post a benchmark test on each
  4. Installing ML was the first thing i did to my new 5DIII and i must admit, it was a bit nerve racking.... But everything went smoothly and i've heard no problems for others, so far. If you do it, remember to take the CF card out, when installing/updating ML on the SD card.... It rendered my camera useless and i was left sweating until a realised my mistake. Taking the CF card out immediately fixed the issue.
  5. Adobe announced they would drop Cinema DNG quite a while ago... You could equally point fingers at the camera/product manufactures for using a standard that they knew was going to be dropped, just because it was free and easy to license.   Of all the cameras you listed though.... Sony and Canon are not actually using the format.... Blackmagic have their own system and the others are very niche and wont concern Adobe.   It's a pain, but due notice was given.
  6. My 5DIII finally arrives tomorrow. Looking forward to trying this mode out... will be taking it to a few of my local surf spots, crop mode makes life alot easier for surf vids
  7. i remember my old hvx200 had a great firewire app that let me focus, control and adjust via laptop... These manufacturers should get on the ball and let us get a feed from the usb3 so we can use mega cheap tablets as monitors.   hopefully a few more wifi monitoring options will come out too.
  8.   Well, the screen IS what sets it aside..... checking your 4K focus could be a dream on this, if the right inputs/software is available   plus... it'll be 60% the price of a macbook air
  9. It has one USB 3.0 port and one USB 2.0 port, plus micro HDMI and a 128GB SSD.   Don't forget this has Win8 though, so has a proper OS that could run some great software (it also has a dockable keyboard, making it similar to a macbook air). Way more than just a tablet.
  10. wow, the new variable buffering has led to 2560x1024 for over 1000 frames and 2880x1154 for around 130 frames http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=6662.msg53428#msg53428
  11. http://androidcommunity.com/samsung-ativ-q-win-8-and-android-on-worlds-highest-resolution-3200x1800-display-20130620/   Pretty insane.... This could make for one hell of a little tool on set or in the field.
  12. It's a gap in the market... you filled it... Capitalism 101 (and i'm not saying that in a bad way). I find the magic lantern forum quite hard to keep track of, and i'm not particularly technically minded, so it often gets a bit much for me. The ML devs don't have time to make a well written document and anyone else is free to spend weeks of their life making a free document, if they dislike Andrew's approach, that is all they need to do. My only advice is that you keep it upto date and relevant. As an app developer... It is absolutely mind blowing the sense of entitlement that people have for free content.... We have an app that displays video as live wallpaper and the free version (ad run) has 100 HD videos, shot all around the world by myself and my friend on our own $. We still get comments like "I have only given this app a 3 star rating because there are no videos of beaches in Tahiti" ... or "1 star, only 100 videos, what's the point?".
  13.   It is these little things that can't be scientifically quantified that can make all the difference. Skin tones are notoriously difficult to perfect, at the sensor level... and it is something Canon have really nailed. Of course, the difference is very small, but it is there and yes, i can generally notice it. It becomes even more apparent with fashion cameras like the Hassy.   Shooting raw is not the absolute fail safe that people seem to think it is.... Look at the RED-One M and to a lesser extent the MX.... The skin tones were somewhat cold.... You can start messing around in post and get the skin colours right, but you are directly affecting the rest of the scene too. Of course, you can get it pretty damn good, if you are a good colourist.... But certain sensors just have it nailed from the off.   Much like the DR though, we are talking about minute, hard to stop details.... Nikon sensors are stunning, Canon sensors are stunning. You'd have to be clueless not to get a great shot out of either.
  14. Nikon's are great.... I still have a D200, D90 and my wife has a D5000.   But i will argue all night that their sensors are in some way superior to Canon's.... It is simply a myth. They are decent at DR, Canon's are decent at other things.   Then again, maybe this site attracts alot of people who shoot cave interiors that need to show a blue sky outside?
  15. Finally, a nice 720/60p sample. Beautiful, in fact.   https://vimeo.com/67714338
  16.   Of course they would... if they prefer Canon's colours, skin tones, lens choices or other aspects that lead people to choose Canon over Nikon.   99% of shots simply do not need more than 12 stops of DR.   Most Hasselblad cameras used on pro fashion shoots have a DR lower than a Nikon D5200... So why are they not shooting Nikon? Colour, look and, perhaps most importantly, skin tone.   DR is not the ultimate yardstick for quality.... It is just one of many, many things that go into making a great looking image (especially if you are shooting people).
  17.   I'm not gonna get into a Canon v Nikon debate.... But the idea that the 5Diii sensor is old and not top of it's game is, frankly, misinformed nonsense.   Yea, the Nikon's have better DR, but the Canon's hold better colour accuracy and preferable skin tones. But, more importantly to me, the Canon's lens choice is FAR better than Nikon.
  18.   That is just your perceived value though, not Canons and not 99% of it's target market.   I ordered a 5Diii this very week.... Partly because i wanted to test the raw hack, but also safe in the knowledge that is was a tip top DSLR that would hold it's value and be a professional tool for a long, long time.
  19. If this last few weeks has shown anything, it is that indie filmmakers are very fickle. BM was toast of the town, now they hardly get a look in and i know plenty of people (myself included) who have cancelled their BMCC orders, while everyone jumps back in bed with Canon, the company that so many, on here, love to hate.   I'm sure we will all sell up and buy a Nikon, if they announced a 2K/60p raw upgrade too. It's just the nature of the indie crowd, and i'm not at all surprised that Canon, RED and a few others are now trying to distance themselves from it.
  20. Interesting camera. I'm assuming 30fps max?   The sheer bulk of the thing puts me off, but I can see it being another good option for studio work
  21.   Yep, you are gonna have to spend that $300 somewhere, either on Cineform or on extra storage.... In the long term, cineform will be much cheaper.
  22. Do you have any samples?... i can't find anything   btw - i was looking through the progress on ML forum.... seems they have found a way to move raw files from CF to SD.... Could be a god send for cheaper backup, in the field.
  23. EOSHD has alot to answer for....   I just ordered a 5Diii, Nikon v1 and 2 x 64gb komputerbay cards for a trip to Norway, in 2 weeks :D
