  1.   How does that relate to the sensor?   If you all just want a Canon hate thread... why use not just start a thread saying "we hate Canon" rather than trying to make out they are behind in sensor tech?   If anything, you should all be crying that Nikon and Sony's sensors can hit 15 stops, yet offer arguably less DR, in video mode, than the Canons.
  2. Ever heard the saying "if it aint broke, don't fix it"?.... There is a reason Canon are the most used camera brand on earth. Their sensors are fricking beautiful.
  3.   Surely, at that point, you just give up... sell you camera and get a BMCC?
  4.   Can't we just rejoice in this great achievement by ML without sinking into propaganda?   The 1-DC records 4K C-log for much longer than a few seconds, with audio, so what is the point comparing? The 1080p (s35) is stunning and can record to practically any CF card. Incomparable to a few seconds of raw to expensive CF cards that were not even available when the 5DIII was launched (let alone the 5DII).   ML are doing something stunning and you are making it about yourself and your agenda.
  5. I assume the 5DIII has a bigger buffer than the 5DII? Are these tests being done on 5DII or III?
  6.   Ridiculous statement.   It's one of the best full frame cameras in the world with 100,000s of very happy users.
  7.   Fair enough, but i am not a narrative film maker. 10-20 seconds of burst would be fine for my work (and i would still have the video mode, for the occasional narrative/advertising work i do).
  8. btw - if this happens, and is solid.... I'm dropping my BMCC 4K order   a 2K raw 5DIII would be plenty... a dream camera really, if it holds the DR, resolution and low light of it's stills.
  9. Would be a great feature.   Not sure why people are crying that Canon "held back" this feature. We might just have the CF cards to pull it off now, but even last year, when the 5DIII was launched, it would be difficult/impossible. That's without even thinking about buffer issues.   Fingers crossed that ML can breath even more life into these cameras.
  10. Sony has the corporate infrastructure required for servicing high end, cinema based clients. It is an industry they understand and generally thrive in.   Nikon might make an amazing, video based DSLR.... But the idea that they will create a new sub division of cinema cameras is unlikely, imho.
  11. Can't see why they would have any interest in the cinema market. The camera side of the industry is in a race to the bottom
  12.   No, once i have decided my aperture, i do not change it (for that shot)   I either decrease the amount of light (ND filters, less lights) or increase the amount of light (more lights or higher ISO)
  13. My approach is:   Set my aperture Set my shutter (usually to 180deg, eg, if shooting at 24p, use 1/48th... but you can set this to however you think will look best for your shot) Adjust my ISO and/or increase/decrease my lighting until i have good exposure
  14. Do they mention if they will ever sell Dragon Scarlets, in store? Or is this a one time only thing?   I'm gonna take the 16 stops DR with a pinch of salt.... They said the mysterium had 12 stops, turned out to be more like 10... they said the MX has 13.5 stops, more like 12. If it has 14 usable stops though, that is plenty.   I'll be keeping my eye on it, that's for sure. 5K/60p good low light and 14+ stops would check most of my boxes.
  15.   1 step forward, 2 steps back.   Surely Sony were just plain lying then, when they said the camera was "4K ready" or whatever the marketing speak was.
  16.   It is harsh... but part of life in the technological age... I'm sure we have all been stung. Sony are certainly no saints either.... remember the F3 s-log upgrade?   Imagine the guys who bought the RED Epic a few weeks before the $9000 (?) price drop
  17.   Sony have always said the FS700 would be upgradable to 4K (and it may not be free).... Canon didn't and were never going to.   If you crave 4K, you only have yourself to blame for buying a 1080p camera that never had a 4K upgrade path.
  18. http://blog.vincentlaforet.com/2013/04/10/movi-store-is-up-and-more-videos-of-it-in-action/   New Movi video... wow!   I don't care what anyone says, this is a game changer... Even for indie, low budgeters.... Just rent the thing. Spending $1000 renting this for your short will be far more worthwhile than having 4K, raw or whatever else you think you need, imho. With a bit of imagination, you can get some really cinematic camera movement. Check out the guy passing the camera to another guy on the truck... So simple, but looks like an expensive crane/jib move.
  19.   Licensing codecs costs money. Would you prefer to pay for what you need, or pay for a bundle of codecs, some of which you'll never use?   Chances are... this approach is actually saving the end user money.
  20. Might be wrong, but i think 4K/60p and the 4K/120p burst mode are only available on Sony's own raw recorder.   Odyssey 7Q only seems to do 4K/30p and 2K/240p... But things change fast around NAB time, so maybe they have updated?   I'm very, very close to cancelling the BMCC 4K and getting an FS700.... Then building it into a 4K beast when the dust settles on all the details.
  21. Sony have surprised me with the inclusion of a 4K raw burst mode (120fps for 4 seconds) to their external raw recorder.... That's around 20 seconds of footage on a 24p timeline.   http://vimeo.com/63672082
  22. As much as i'm loving the new camera.... You shouldn't keep wheeling out the "$36k" specs thing.   The F55 has: at least, 2 stops more DR 4K/60p 2k/240p Much better low light Much better I/Os Much better features (dual recording, better codec choices etc etc) Much better ergonomics   The 4K BMCC is not even spec'd better than RED Scarlet (though, does have global shutter).   Stear clear of hype.... It's a bargain, an amazing bargain that will change the indie scene..... but it is not on par with the highest end cameras... Not by a long way.
  23. Considering most people will be upgrading from DSLRs, i don't see the form factor being a problem. We have been jumping through hoops for a few years now.     As someone whos first glimpse into the s35 world was a HVX200 and RedRock frankenrig, i can live with having a few ins/outs on the "wrong" side.   Could it be better, sure.... Would i prefer to pay an extra $3k for a new chassis, maybe not.
  24.   Is that supposed to be a good thing? Pandering to a Hollywood director, when they had thousands of early adopters waiting patiently for their R1 to Epic upgrades.
