Very nice! Could you provide some details about the gear you used? I really like the subtle motion indoors @ 1:20.   The colours from 1:40 to 2:10 look a bit cold, should've graded them a bit warmer imo, but overall great job!

Agree on the internal battery, it's like a laptop plugged into a wall socket, no need to worry when plugged out accidentally. By the way, is this battery suitable for powering my GH2, or do you recommend other power solutions?

But I think in case of the more stable GH3 codec you could get away with cheaper fast SD memory cards like a Transcend class 10 or so, but don't take my word on it.

Nice review, this guy knows what he's doing and the footage is nice, although I watched on my phone. Maybe Panny has delivered a winner after all. After Andrew's review and now this, I'm turning quite positive. With the GH3 in experienced hands, we get a decent image of the capabilities and I like it. Now, where's my money.

Thanks Andrew! Of course it's a bit dissapointing having moiré and aliasing, but the way I see it, is the GH2 being a budget cinema cam and this one will be the ideal run and gun, ENG (budget)camera. The weathersealing and audio monitoring are a big plus. I see a lot of (professional) BTS and making of's still being shot on a 7D, despite of having moiré and aliasing issues as well. Now let's compare the gh3 to the 7D, it's a worthy upgrade, isn't it?

Those MTS files are your footage. FCPX probably added some metadata to the files making them unreadable by the GH2. You'd better convert them to an edit friendly format and back up your footage before you freakout again. If footage is really important and money is involved, back up first! At least this is my experience working with different production company's.

In short, not yet. I personally think it's to early to decide for what I've seen of the footage coming from a GH3. Shure it's better built and sports some nice features, but for now I don't see it as a worthy upgrade. Maybe if Stalin succeedes in hacking it and Panasonic resolves the moiré and aliasing issues, it will be worth the money.

Hi everyone, I've been using the iFocus from Gini Rigs for a couple of weeks now and I just thought I had to share my opinion about using it. First of all, it's a nice follow focus, it's got hardly noticeable backlash and offers smooth focusing. The main disadvantage in my opinion is its size. It's really big and looks somewhat silly on my GH2 rig, but it does the job right when used properly. So how to get the most out of it? Well, out of the box, it has it's focusgear on the right side, closest to your camera, which is very common for follow focuses. But due to it's size, it will get in the FOV of (smaller) wide angle M43 lenses (<14mm). It also won't allow the use of sunhoods, because of the small space between the gearbox and gear, the gearbox will hit the hood before the focusgear can slip into lensgear. [attachment=300:000.jpg] So the first thing I did was switching the gear from the right to the left side. You'll just need two small hex keys (I think its 2 and 3mm) to do this. [attachment=301:001.jpg] [attachment=302:002.jpg] But after this, the follow focus will block the view of the FL and DOF markings on the lens, and will make it harder to adjust aperture when having a manual aperture ring. [attachment=303:003.jpg] To solve this little problem I attached the 15mm connecter to the other side of the rig, so a large part of the FF will be under the lens. You can rotate the gearbox, so the wheel will be vertical again. [attachment=304:004.jpg] So this is my opinion on using this follow focus, just thought to share it with you. Any tips or recommendations are welcome.

I've got no experience with it, but maybe you could search on google for 'hardcode subtitles'. I think you need to turn the script into a subtitle file first in order to succeed, but as I said before, I've got no experience in this method. Good luck!

Hi guys, I did some test shooting in lowlight and high ISO on my GH2, nothing scientific, just pushing the camera. I noticed a strange dark pattern on the lower half of my footage on high ISO settings. Exactly the same darker line as this guy gets: https://vimeo.com/19563762 Sometimes it's visible, sometimes not, at ISO 2500 or lower it disappears. Is it a faulty sensor or normal behaviour in low light? I use the EOSHD Unified 88Mbit hack.

As you said it yourself, you'll need an external power supply in order to cover events such as a wedding. But that's just one problem of the workflow covered. Remember it shoots on SSD's, so even when you shoot ProRes, you'll need a lot of SSD's to store a complete wedding day. The 5DmkIII and the BMCC seem to be in the same price range, but you'll need a lot more (expensive) gear in order to take the BMCC into the field. My two cents; If you just want to learn, shoot weddings and have over 3k to spend, I'd go for a more versatile ENG camera like a Canon XF100 HD or if you want an ILC a NEXVG-30.

Search both lenses on vimeo, like "Panasonic 14mm gh2" and "Rokinon 14mm gh2" (you can replace rokinon with samyang, if you don't find any matches). Look at the images and decide which one of the two you like best. With the panny being faster, the Rokinon has an aperture ring (even clickless with the cine version), which could be an advantage over the panny with video. The rokinon is larger and you have to buy another adapter for it, Nikon or EF to m43. The rokinon also has no filter ring, only a mattebox will be an option for using filters. My two cents; If you're looking for a cinematic like image, go for the rokinon or the SLR magic. If you just want a cheap fast wideangle prime, buy the Panasonic.

Sounds like a short shutterspeed in lowlight. Please read the manual of the camera, not to be harsh or something, but the manual contains enough basic information for problems like these.

A fast wide-angle prime is the SLR Magic Hyperprime 12mm f1.6. It's not that cheap, but very fast and wide. I suppose you already have the kitlens? It starts at 14mm, so if that's wide enough for you and you just need a faster lens, the panny 14mm f2.5 will suit you fine.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the design, but I never understood the use of these kind of cages. I mean, are you really going to hold the camera in front of you with these handles and try to make some sort of steady shot? Or are those handles just for transport? I can't imagine myself being able to make a decent (usable) handheld shot without some sort of extra support, like a shouldermount, especialy when using heavier longer lenses. But then again, I haven't tried it, so maybe I'm talking nonsense.

Will definitely try it Kirk, is the stability a real issue when hacked? Next thing; I received the Samyang 35mm and first thing I noticed is the weight! According to the manual it's 700 grams, I'll have to wait for my adapter to arrive. Great stuff guys, thanks! Just got my GH2 and according to the UPS tracking data, I'll receive the Samyang on monday. Now I'm trying to install the EOSHD Unified patch, but without results. As I read in another topic, you can see if the patch worked properly if you can increase the ISO to 12800, but mine's still blocked/limited to 3200! Let me explain what I did: - Downloaded official Panasonic FW 1.1 - Downloaded Ptools and EOSHD Unified settings (sete.ini) and put them into the same folder. - Loaded official firmware into Ptools and already (e) was checked. - Changed version increment from 1 to 10. - Saved new firmware and loaded it into the GH2. - Succesful install, but no updated ISO settings. Help?!
