Think this is the thing with the Micro - everyone's just got straight to shooting something, cheers. 1. Used worse screens & with a crude viewfinder, I've never ever missed focus. 2. Yes, yes & yes - stopped using RAW because of this & only vintage lenses + anamorphic lenses (also avoid moire creating things like the plague!). 3. Not a problem - swap the SD card, swap the battery. Pocket has/had the best image out there, hands down, no question about it! Just hoping that BM announce a camera that lies inbetween the BMCC & Pocket...

If the ebay listing didn't state that it had fungus, contact the seller & get your money back. Ebay defends the buyer & not the seller - make sure that you don't have to pay the return postage (they duped you, so they should pay). Had this happen to me a few times & they normally don't argue, since if you complain to ebay they defend you. Also, bet you they say something on the lines of "Oh I didn't know it had fungus...blah blah blah!"

I suppose stuff will emerge, eventually. Or its just that the compressed RAW only works in Resolve & not everyone uses or wants to use Resolve. How are you liking your copy? Is the image quality so much better than the Pocket or is it just about honours even, combined with better battery life etc... I just really like my Pocket cam & have been experimenting loads more with it - really going bare bones & coming to terms again with what a S16 image is really all about. Think i've finally started to crack the whole timelapse mode, which to begin with I thought was really not that great compared to a DSLR.

Real lack of BMMCC footage, why is that exactly? And i'm not talking about 60fps stuff! I mean, when the Pocket came out, you just couldn't move for footage! Why is this? I don't care if its just Cats & Dogs (well I do actually), but why not just show us something?!

This forum is all about filming & so the 80D offers absolutely nothing new - we all know this and there are far better options out there for video, at a cheaper price. You can buy a secondhand T2i for £190 (30k shutter count), but not everyone wants to do this - they want something new. But as its been said, time & time again, Canon make photography cameras with video bolted on. If you want to film something, then they have the C series (still 8-bit, which beggers belief in this day & age), so they are never going to release something that steps all over their other camera lines - it would be absolutely crazy! The one thing Canon has going for them is that they are a well known brand - their colour science is great & their cameras just work straight out of the box. People are going to buy the 80D regardless of what people say - you stick with a trusted brand, because they are a trusted brand. Look at Kendy Ty, when he moved away from the T2i, he upgraded to a 5D! He could have gone to so many other makes of camera, but stuck with Canon. The Moire & Aliasing debate is only cared about by us - there are so many Films/TV series that have it. Try telling someone you know, who is clueless about camera tech, about M&A and they just won't have a clue about what you're on about - they don't notice it or care. The thing i'm finding funny at the moment is the absolute lack of BMMCC footage out there - strange, no?

Yep, I know. When I got myself a camera, years ago, every lens that i wanted had an Exacta mount, but there weren't any adaptors yet to use them. Instead I went the M42 way & was happy, but still a bit sad. Today I've been filming with the Meyer Lydith 30mm f3.5 & Meyer Orestor 100mm f2.8 + Iscorama 54 on the Pocket & the images may not be razor sharp, but so what because the way they render the colours & contrast absolutely blow me away every time. I'll see any modern lens & raise you a vintage German master piece every time!

But BM did reuse the body of the BMCC for the BMPC4K, so could they do something similar. My guess is that they will develop the BMMCC body into something a bit larger (a reverse of the URSA=> URSA mini), with a handle grip & a screen of some sort. JB has already said, maybe not on this forum, that the BMMCC is a crash cam/drone camera & never intended to be a replacement of the pocket. So one can only assume that if they do reveal something (& its a big IF), it will probably be something inbetween the BMPCC & BMCC - hopefully it'll be APS-C sized sensor & will be a Canon mount (but it'll be 1080p, so as not to step on the toes of BMCC). Or they take a real big leap & make a DSLR - screw over Canon, Nikon, Sony & Panasonic all in one fell swoop!

1DC Mk2 - 4K in H265 & if you're really lucky [pause, take a deep breath], 5D4 with whatever mojo they put in the 1DC for video?

Yes the singer should be able to hear the song - do a few takes where you do close ups (Extreme CU & a Medium) of just the singer or if the singer can't manage that, then get the chorus & a few other bits. Get a wide shot, so you have a basis that you can always cut to & from - make sure it isn't too close, so you can't see exactly what the singer is saying. And also film each band member - get the drummer in a tight shot or just shoot him hitting the snare drum & the same goes for the bass player. And don't worry if you reuse footage. Listen to the song so you can plan what & when you need to film them - makes your life a whole lot easier. The main thing is to warn them that they'll have to play the song over & over, it won't be done in just one take! Bands that have been filmed before will understand this, first timers won't & have to have it explained.

Nice info on the possible bmmcc sensor & I'm with you all the way - i'm happy with the Pocket & am more than happy to wait things out. Its my theory as well that the hit on DR was too significant, but also the fact that the sensor read out for RS was really up there with the best of them & so of not much concern in the end. GS will always have less DR than a RS - so perhaps, electronically, the inner workings of the camera can't handle the shift in pace or simply they would have had to downgrade the RS mode to fit in line with the GS mode. All speculation in the end. What we do know about BM is that they do end up fixing/adding things with firmware updates. I really want them to implement 4:3 mode on the Pocket for anamorphic shooting, its the only thing that's missing from it. Then again, it does have a 4:3 frame guide, which is really useful & i suppose that's as good as it'll get for the Pocket - a real shame, but i can live with that, just about!

Having played with the 4.6k Cdng files, I think RS vs GS is a moot point - boy can you push those files! I can totally understand why they decided to just release the Mini 4.6K without GS, as it will simply sell itself with that picture & the DR available. Would've taken the hit with the Micro, but if the picture quality/DR is anyways near the 4.6Ks - that'll be one powerful little camera for the money! The only thing is, is that Grant didn't really mention the Micro in his comments - anyone can confirm anything?

My advice is to take as many pictures as you can, as these will be timeless & you'll always have them to pull out to show your kids/grand kids etc... Whatever resolution you film something in now, I guarantee you that in 20yrs or so time, you'll show some friends (or whoever) & start by saying "Look sorry guys, but this was filmed in HD/2K/4K (8-bit). Yeah, I know, but its all that was available back then!" Nothing is future proof, as things are changing all the time. The trip is the most important thing, so take something you can just whip out of your bag & quickly take something. The one thing you don't want to do is spend all your time filming etc. and then miss enjoying the holiday - not sure what your Brother is like, but my guess is that he'll get really pissed off with you in the end.

Beautiful country! Was lucky enough to date a girl fom Lisbon for a while & it quickly became one of my favourite capital cities - Porto was nice too.

Really helps when you live in a beautiful country like Portugal (it is Portugal, right?)! The view from my window this morning was a lovely, pleasing dull grey coupled with plumes of smoke from the taxi garage down below, who were doing their weekly plastic rubbish burn - toxic! But you're right, film something, anything - just not your cats/dogs!

Not sure if i used the right term there? Damn! Its one of those terms that really means nothing after all. And yes it does have something to do with the codec used, but also how the sensor works/captures whole frozen frames without any or too much motion skewing? But my point was meant to be that I really like how some GS cameras capture motion (DB in particular), but this could just be down to the expertise of the operator. Basically, 24p is 24p and all things being equal, there should be no difference, and for most modern cameras there isn't really! However, everytime I see some GS footage, it just seems to capture movement in a more pleasing way - here i'm talking about the cheap cameras, not the high end stuff. But I'm nit picking really as the URSA mini 4.6k is the first camera (in its price bracket) that seems to capture motion really nicely - so perhaps BM decided that GS really wasn't necessary after all because the difference was minute (all the high end cams have RS not GS - Alexa, Red etc...).

Yeah, I know & am kinda with you, but just a little lazy & for most of what I do, at the moment, it doesn't really matter. For me Global Shutter is more important & I'd take the extra hassle just for that. I mean what are we talking, the difference between 10/12 stops vs. 14/15? I'll go back to my comment about screens, we're just spoilt at the moment & most just don't know how lucky they are! Yeah it makes life a little easier, but where's the fun in that - I want a little bit of a challenge. Its a bit like people who don't think you should/can blow highlights a little - yeah you can, but just don't make it ugly. Then there's the motion cadence of the Global Shutter - I mean, come on!

Don't get me started with the menus! Damn they are a real pain, but not as bad as Sony, where you can spend days digging around, and they've never learnt in all the years of making cameras! But in the end, the Pocket has one of the best images i've ever seen for a camera at that price point & everything else I can put up with - stunning doesn't even do it justice. I'm now really happy that i can spend some money in other areas, since the Micro won't have global shutter. I wonder why they didn't think about releasing 2 versions - 1 Rolling & 1 Global? I'd have taken the hit in DR for Global every day of the week! IMHO high DR is for all those "I'll fix it in post" people - shit i no longer even bother using RAW with the Pocket, just too time consuming.

My only advice is to give them the best possible version that you can. After all this is a showcase for your work & what you're capable of doing - its free, I know, but no point in shooting yourself in the foot at this point in time. Also, if you need more footage for your showreel etc. just do a little short nonsense film - the most hits i've had on Vimeo (apart from a 14sec ML ETTR vid with 24.5k hits) was from an Anamorphic lens test of me making my morning coffee (5K). And then don't do what I did & ignore the number of hits you have! I've just come to the realisation that I really need to start doing more to find work & have finally gotten off my arse! Got one new client already!

Is there honestly a worse screen out there? Can't disagree more - i've used loads of cameras over the years and it isn't the greatest, but its not the worst. I think people just like complaining & have been really spoilt over the years - I remeber the screen on the Sony Z1 & that was laughable, but still useable! Obviously, you'd be insane to use it for a tracking shot whilst focus pulling, but its a pocket camera & if you use a viewfinder, its fine. I've never missed focus with the Pocket's screen & i'm only using a cheap £10 viewfinder that I bought on Amazon for my old 60D - i'm going to upgrade soon to the Zacuto or the otherone whose name escapes me.

Amen, brother! They paid after that video & apologised for the shitty filming day! How are you going to grade your video? I noticed that you cropped the sides, so are you going for a super8 type grading vibe?

Looks fine enny & you did do more edits, so bound to be tighter. For a free video there's no problems with what you've done - i've seen worse videos that peole have actualy paid for (out of sync, shoddy camera work, bad CC etc...). So as promised, here's my first unpaid gig and as I said it was a complete nightmare, so much so I nearly walk off and only didn't cause it was a bit of a trek with all my gear. They were 3hrs late going on stage (not entirely their fault, but partly); The crowd that they so desperately wanted went away; The wide shot I told them I needed to get during the soundcheck never really happened (the 20/30secs I got is at the beginning); The stage was so small, it was laughable (they made it seem that they would be playing the main stage!); I wasn't allowed to get a live recording from the mixxing desk, as they were going to do that (they didn't). The only shots of them performing the song are the wide shot at the beginning, the drummer & the close up of the bass player. Everything else was taken from other songs & I recorded the singer another day in my mum's upstairs room & on her balcony! Enjoy, I didn't!
