Looks v.nice & you'll be able to get the look you want with the DR. But might have to agree with JG on using it on the Drama side in order to really show off its qualities, but i don't see why it shouldn't work equally well for Docs.

Found PixelConduit a few weeks ago & have been meaning to read through the PDF manual. I did that last night & it is, amongst other things, a live streaming program which also deals with 3D imaging. Now i only skimmed the 3D part, but i think it might be a good way of seeing whats going on whilst you are filming - you can also record straight off the camera, so might help? http://pixelconduit.com/

Do external monitors have the option to flip the image, that could be your answer as the Pocket screen isn't the biggest or best.

The Annual Blackmagic Shipping Date Mystery Thread
Bioskop.Inc replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Hint For UK Buyers only: Going to cancel my pre-order with CVP - 160th in the queue & as of yesterday they are only getting 5 units a week! Am now 2nd in line at another BM reseller & they still have 2 back order units to come from distributor - they fulfilled their last order in 2 days! Also, 5th at another place & 18th at another (this reseller is getting 2 a week). So, if you want a Pocket forget CVP & shop around, as all the BM resellers are getting between 2-5 units a week (equal distribution) - just go through the BM approved reseller list for UK.- 40 replies

Yep Mir-10a looks good, the only thing that put me off was the f3.5 - i've got another lens that's f3.5 & i find it can be awkward sometimes to get critical focus with my Iscorama. I've stopped worrying and just mix & match taking lenses, using the right lens for the shot I want to get - no ones going to really notice & a bit of colour shift can be easily corrected in post. I'm hesitating about whether to go all out with Nikon Ai-s lenses, as i was so impressed with the 28mm f2.8 - the thing appears to be faster (brighter) than other f2.8s i have.
-
The Nikon ai-s 28mm f2.8 is absolutely the best wide angle lens i've bought - close focusing, v.little distortion, just stunning! Here's a couple of resources on Nikon lenses: http://www.naturfotograf.com/lens_surv.html#rating http://www.photosynthesis.co.nz/nikon/serialno.html

The Annual Blackmagic Shipping Date Mystery Thread

Pocket They also mentioned that they'd nearly completed the first day orders. All-in-all it sounds like numbers are shipping & they expect their delivery numbers to grow. I'm going to try some local places, just in case they get 1 or 2 in.- 40 replies

I used a good monitor & a shitty monitor - scored 0 both times! So you can either spot the micro differences or you can't - don't blame your monitor, blame your eyes. The whole point was to say your eyes aren't reliable, so use your scopes - but you professionals should know this! However, anyone starting out might not realise how badly your eyes can deceive you.

The Annual Blackmagic Shipping Date Mystery Thread
Bioskop.Inc replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Just got this e-mail from CVP: "Good News, We are now receiving regular shipments of stock and these units have been sent out to customers. Its seems from the shipments that due to the worldwide demand and the rate of manufacturing that we will be receiving a low number of cameras per delivery but hopefully the deliveries will be regular. If the production rate matches the 2.5K camera we should see a steady increase in numbers of units throughout the deliveries. The last 3 delivery have been within a week of each other and the last delivery saw the quantity more than double." Only problem for me is i'm now 150th! I really hate the fact i was away for 2 days with no internet when the pre-orders started on the 8th...- 40 replies

Could be the tripod head? Does it have any drag adjustors, if so tighten them for a smoother pan. If you've not got drag adjustors, the best advice for a smooth pan is use a few rubber bands & pull in an even manner (& don't pan too quickly).

@ Cantsin Yes, it does seem as if people thought this was a consumer cam & it has become increasingly obvious that it isn't - you're going to really have to work hard & prepare well with this thing. As soon as i saw people going for a hike or filming flowers/cats or whatever, my whole body just shuddered & convulsed in pain. I think i've only seen a couple of things shot on the Pocket that have been worth while watching & have shown off what it can really do, the rest...well...?- 40 replies

The Annual Blackmagic Shipping Date Mystery Thread

I just got that sinking feeling with the Pocket camera & the lame amounts they have produced/are shipping! You can just imagine the BM assembly line - a couple of blind one-armed men. We were well warned with their past track record of production/delivery, but i will be happy if mine comes in a couple of months. In the meantime i've rejected ML Raw (lovely image, but no sound=deal breaker) & am loving my 60D once more - its actually in my hands & works!- 40 replies

Nah! He probably got a bad score & was trying to find an excuse for his genetic make-up - nothing wrong with being a little colour blind, its nature/natural!
-
You'd think that would be the case, but i've got a shit monitor & still got a perfect score (i did the test a few times just to make sure), so...i think you're wrong. You've either got good colour vision or you don't & if you don't you really need to use the tools your NLE provides to help you along.
-
Yeah, just a bit of reverse psychology, as 0 is normally a shit score! I was really surprised that with my shit eyesight & being over 40, i'd score really badly. Thought it was an interesting test, as i'd never really thought that people weren't on a level playing field when CC was involved. Also, it kinda justifies why i only use the scopes etc...once i've finished grading stuff - you know just to check & make sure.
-
Colour grading can be difficult & some people find it more challenging than others. So, are some of us not genetically predestined towards this area & are some of us are just natural born killers when it comes to colour? Here's a test to show you how well you can identify colour or, in simple speak, How Colour Blind Are You?! http://www.xrite.com/custom_page.aspx?pageid=77&lang=en Thought it was a bit of fun! Have a go & post your scores if you're brave... I got a big fat 0 points, if it makes you feel any better
-
The reply you got, from the Optical Engineer, was absolutely correct & if you're thinking of selling it then those are the prices you should be expecting. A non-MC Iscorama in good condition is like gold dust - you could basically name your price & you'd get someone buying it. As no one has really answered your initial question, this is what the lens does: an Iscorama shoots anamorphic pictures/video - think widescreen images, like at the cinema.
-
Remember that there is Tragic Lantern (a part of ML) for 600D, which gives you a higher bit rate for H264 & so more possibilities. http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=6913.0 ML Raw is only really worth it on the 5D3, but for all other cameras, don't get fooled by this feature, it is nice but not very practical - actually its a huge headache! H264 is still an ok codec & using it really is a challenge, but it also makes you learn loads of things about shooting. If you're really worried about image quality get a secondhand GH2, apply the hack & you're set - it MFT, so a little bit smaller than the canon choices, but that mount means your choice of glass is enormous. Basically, if you're still learning then don't go splashing loads of cash about, as by the time you get good there will be better cameras to choose from - if & when you need to make the step up.
-
This will probably kill the LA7200 & Century Optics - no diopters, sharp across the whole width, lighter, can use on FF & much much better F/T stop. So the price of $1.5k is actually really quite good considering everything. The legacy lenses, that are being sold, tend to be in really bad shape (fungus, mis-aligned etc...) & this one will get people spending, as you're getting a brand new lens which should be perfect. I definitely think this will give most lenses a run for their money - the plastic 36 has a shelf life (they're old & won't last forever, unless you get them rehoused) & i never felt comfortable taking it out. I mean seriously how strong is that plastic? One too many bumps or the focus thread gets warn away... The only problem is whether other lenses will work just as well with it - it is meant to be optimised to use with their lenses (not a fan & expensive). As BR said, if you haven't or don't want to make peace with x1.33, then you never will. However, if you can use one of Rich's oval aperture lenses with it then x1.33 isn't going to be a problem whatsoever.

Iscomorphot 16, Sankors and other non Isco 36 glass

Nice Iscorama 54 (non-MC) going on ebay from Germany - no reserve, but it has some fungus (which he's already got a pricing from Bernie in NY for $400 to clean). Probably/hopefully won't go for much... -
You know what? I'm just itching to get my hands on a Pocket & shoot something in a codec that isn't H264. I got my fingers & toes crossed for the end of the month for a looming project - i can dream can't i? Orbs! To Raw or not to Raw? Next you'll be arguing over the fact its a S16mm sensor...Jeez!

Amen! Go in peace brothers! Stoker is all i have left to offer... -
I love these discussions we have! I was wondering, any relation to Sean S. (Friday the 13th etc...)? I do love Raw, but I was never buying the Pocket exclusively for this. I think cantsin summed it up nicely - time & money! I'm glad you have both!

Thought your post was lacking a bit of tongue in cheek humour! Actors, hitting marks, pulling focus...? Did you see the original lens the OP bought? If he'd wanted to know about proper anamorphics he would have gone elsewhere... -
Firstly, ProRes would be the Primary shooting mode & Raw would be secondary - Raw is a luxury that you would only use for a handful of shots where you really needed the DR. Secondly, the SD card problem is exactly that & I would hazard a guess that BM are in the throws of making a new version of their Shuttle that will handle the recording of Raw - it could just be a firmware update to their existing product (which is reasonably priced). It just seems so obvious & great business sense that they can't have ignored this gap in their product line! My guess is that when Raw is ready to be implemented to the Pocket (i'd lay down money it already is ready), they will have already announced an external recorder that can handle its capture or an announcement would follow shortly afterwards.
