  1. Talking of bargains, being patient & the advantages of looking carefully on ebay (using Google to search ebay can give some unexpected results). At the weekend i bought some Focar A&B 95mm Diopters for £45 incl P&P from ebay Germany & a day later the exact lenses went for £230 on ebay England! LOL!!!! Its quite amazing what bargains you can find if you just look a little, instead of seeing one thing & rushing in.   I'm v.tempted to sell some stuff too!
  2. That post was really praising the Iscomorphot 8/x2, which is a completely different anamorphic (fixed focus, so can be a pain to use) & is much better - mine cost me £30.  Posting stuff on this forum does seem to have that effect on prices, but what we are joking about is the cons that are about on Ebay, the false/misleading listings of Anamorphics & how much people are willing to pay for stuff at present - people just seem so impatient to wait for a bargin!  Quite frankly, that Iscomorphot x1.5 is no way near worth the same price as an Iscorama - i've had one, its small & nice, but isn't even in the same league & never will be. The Bolex x1.5 on the other hand is a lovely lens (one of the best & everyone knows it) & regardless of its dual focus properties, has always commanded top prices.  These prices have always been a source of amusement, because they have gone up & up & up, to the point where people have started to ask nearly £1000 for a Kowa for B&H (which i bought for £200 a few years ago)!
  3. Don't get me wrong, I'm with the seller on this one - always got to chance your arm. And he does have "Make Offer", which is always nice. I've got a couple of anamorphics that i'm thinking of letting go & one of them is so mint that i'd take this approach.
  4. Yeah saw this one & with 18 watchers - WTF! What are they waiting for its a steal at this price...lol! I remember these when you could pick'em up for peanuts! Has the world gone insane?
  5. Got to remember the guy only had it for a day & some of it is bang on focus, think practice will make perfect.   Some of his next one looked quite nice (apart from Vimeo compression)   http://vimeo.com/72534882       BM rep on their forum has already said that it shouldn't be making that noise, so might be a faulty test model sent to the reviewer. In any case not that big a deal really if you're coming from DSLR world.
  6. The support is probably a custom job, as i've never seen them for sale & i did look quite hard for one. Same goes for the rear filter.   Be interesting to hear his answer...
  7. It must come naturally, as only a complete wanker would post such a bullshit reply...!       This blog has lots of good stuff & he's a proper DP, not some wannabe (you'll need to dig around but its not too big):  http://www.hurlbutvisuals.com/blog/     & he has recommended some books which have been good: http://www.hurlbutvisuals.com/blog/2012/10/educational-resource-books-for-cinematography/
  8.   Pity the guy decided to focus on columns, posters etc... instead of the people! This made it very annoying & gave you no sense whatsoever about what could be done with it. Think this is going to make those run'n'gun people think twice, cause you know they're going to end up with mushy/out of focus footage - perhaps practice might make acceptable? And it didn't look too video-ish, just maybe not the best choice in lens.
  9. I'd never actually watched Reverie & having just done so, it looks like a slick 80s cosmetic product ad - nothing wrong with that & kinda makes sense when you consider LF is a photographer. And after all its all about personal taste, which is different for each of us. The whole PB vs LF debate is just funny cause i'd never heard of them before researching DSLRs & quite frankly i'm still not impressed. The dark horse that no one mentions is the one person i had heard of, Shane Hurlbut, & it was his info, posts & advice that showed me the way (still the most interesting/informative blog out there, by a proper jobbing DP). So, what really convinced me to get a DSLR was this little offering & it really shows off what you can really do with this type of camera when you take a little time, effort & know how: http://vimeo.com/10570139     Also, anyone considering a BM product should take a look at this article, as it really does represent what these cameras are all about & how to test them/think about them with just a little bit of objectivity:   http://www.hurlbutvisuals.com/blog/2013/08/blackmagic-cinema-camera-tests/     Personally, i'm getting a pocket & think it will be a great little cheap camera & way better than any DSLR in its price range.
  10. Thanks Rich that's a v.generous offer & would be good to meet another enthusiast in Bristol.   My feeling is that the T* coating is killing pretty much all internal/external (normal spherical) lens flare & this is some how allowing the flare generated by the anamorphic to become a little more prominent. However, its still piss poor & nothing like a flare produced by a non-MC'd anamorphic lens - i was just curious if anyone had an explanation, as it was unexpected.   NB. If you have a MC Anamorphic & are reading this, please don't think that an expensive T* Coated lens is any sort of solution, it isn't! I bought my MC lenses so the flares wouldn't get in the way - just look at Star Trek they're in every F**king shot & it just gets distracting/annoying, IMHO.
  11. Sorry deleted the pics as i needed the space on the sd card - doh! And don't get excited, as they were more of a surprise than mind blowing. Basically the 54's were a more pronounced Red, not distracting but you could clearly see the flare. I tried the Widescreen 2000 when i got home against a light & it was turquiose - i'd never seen it flare before.   I'll try & make a video when i get back home tonight (if i haven't drunk too much!).
  12. Cheers Rich, Well this would have been my first thought, but both Anamorphics & the Zeiss are in pristine condition, as new condition - no scratches, cleaning marks or dust. So this isn't the answer.   I am just a bit [pleasantly] bemused & was thinking about whether the colour/tint of the coatings has something to do with it - both the 54 & Widescreen 2000 have that redish tint, whilst the Zeiss T coating looks more green/blue.   If it is the curvature of the elements, it has really got me re-thinking my choice of taking lenses, but i'm in no position to invest in more Zeiss ZEs - maybe the Rollei zeiss lenses with HFT coatings might be worth a punt.
  13. So i've got a couple of MC Anamorphics (Iscorama 54 & Widescreen 2000) & obviously they don't really produce flares - albeit under extreme/strange circumstances & even then nothing to write home about. This is fine, its why i bought them & so this isn't a complaint or a "damn i wished i'd never bought them" type post.   The other day i paired the 54 with a Zeiss Planar 1.4/50 ZE to take some lovely sterile pictures & the bloody thing wouldn't stop flaring! When i got home i paired the Zeiss with the Widescreen 2000 & the same thing.   So WTF is going on? As i thought that combining 2 MC lenses would never in a million years produce a flare, but they seem to have cancelled each other out.   So does anyone have any explanations/theories for why this is happening?
  14. He's actually quite tolerant - some admins would've banned you without a second thought. Shit, i banned someone the other day who sent me a PM informing me "to stop fucking telling them what they can & can't say/do on this fucking forum & to go fuck myself".    But yeah, it would be nice if personal opinions could be tolerated, especially when a new piece of cheap tech is involved that isn't even late yet!
  15. I'm in the middle of a 60D Raw edit & yes you still get loads of latitude in FCPX. I use RPP (left it flat, Auto WB & +5 sharpening), export to TIFF & make a PR HQ .mov with QT7. The Bit Rate is high & nothing has fallen apart or caused me problems for the result i want. But you need to test & see what works for you/your project - its the only way to be sure of what workflow you'll use & why.
  16. Can't miss what you don't have! So yeah, there will be disappointment, but in the end no big deal! And at the moment the Aussies just can't do anything right - might be funny to watch a company shoot itself in the foot!   What will really piss me off is if the Yanks get them by the bucket load & we just have to sit & watch a load of gloaters rub our noses in it!
  17.   Come on, they said that they'd ship in July & i don't remember them specifying to whom - Cheeky Aussies! So lets wait 9 days & see. You've got to have a little faith, as we all know it'll be suicide if they mess up again!   Personally, ML Raw has been a nice distraction & has taken my mind off the "when will i get my hands on a Pocket". Its also let me get used to the sensor size & so i won't be having any headaches over it.
  18. I think some level headed perspective is needed.   BM said that they'd start to ship units in July - now you've got to assume they meant to the distributers. The units have to get to the distributors & then they get shipped to customers - the turn around for all that is a month (end-August).  Its 9 days until the end of July - so they're not late & haven't led anyone down the garden path yet.     If you really thought you'd get a camera in your hands by the end of July then you're just simply not being very realistic & the fact that people can't wait (maybe an extra month) is just a little pathetic really.   I'm doing a music video & I used ML Raw - the shoot went fine (no problems at all & only 1 pink frame), but the workflow has got me on my knees! But this is because I was using a 60D & filmed 80gb - am finally happy as Larry right now!
  19. What do you think the legal situation would be if they take ages to add the Raw Firmware?   I know that by law (UK) you have a cooling off period (around 30days) & there is also the "if it doesn't work as advertised" - so any buyers should be covered, but for how long? So, how long after purchase before it all gets a bit too much (the firmware doesn't materialise) & more importantly, our consumer rights fly out the window? We know that Raw shouldn't be a problem (ML Hack) & fast SD cards will be fine with compressed CinDNGs, but shouldn't this have been done already!   CVP have added 31/7/13 as a date now, so i would've thought 31/8/13 will be the more realistic date.   Also, I would've thought with 9 days to go a quick pic of a warehouse full of stock would be ideal to calm people down, but they haven't backed down on their end of July statement, so......?
  20. If you've Resolve Lite use that.   If not i use RPP - it has some great film stock presets, hot pixel removal & everything you could want. Also, other people are using RawTherapee. Both of these are free & you can export in TIFF or JPEG & then you can use QT7 or MPEGStreamclip.
  21. Quote from Christine Peterson re. Pocket Cam (from BM forum): "I'm sorry that there have been some misunderstandings about the ship date. To my knowledge, we have always simply stated "Shipping in July" without giving any specific date, whether it be the 1st or 25th. The engineering team still sounds confident that cameras will ship before the end of July."     This coupled with Firmware updates tweeted by JB, is something to keep the ants out of your pants! Got to have some faith & I like the way she picks the 25th (instead of the 31st) in her timeline. You've also got to think about how many people would have ordered the Pocket & wait your turn.   If i'd plumped for one of the other cameras, i would certainly loose enthusiasm after a few months & buy a 5D3...but this would only be for Raw as its H264 is still shit.
  22. Got this e-mail today as well & it does read as a kinda "Stop asking, we don't have anymore info than you!" type thing. They probably will start shipping some units by the end of July (don't think they can afford not to), but to whom & how many is anyone's guess!   I'd be prepared to wait a few months, maybe six, but not a year - the 5D3 would be too tempting! Or i'd spend the money & rent something better...   But i suppose its always been a waiting game & that's how it goes...
  23. Yes, timewise, that sounds about right, but as you said there's no info on this lens & i'd just bought a 54. Single focus too - bonus! I suppose now everyone will be wondering how many are knocking about & i bet we'll see some over inflated prices popping up on ebay!
  24. Nice lens QHR! I've seen this before & always wondered...but i've now made myself a promise not to buy anymore Anamorphics for a while. I'm assuming its dual focus? Not that i care, as complaining about such a small thing like that can normally mean that you disregard excellent lenses.
  25. As you've discovered Raw is a real pain in the ass! The 60D is a great camera - as peederj said you've got to know what to avoid & how to recognise it. People who complain about moire/aliasing just don't get it & an audience will never notice or care.   Also, there are attempts to improve the H264 video for 60D via porting Tragic Lantern (like the 600D), which will dramatically improve the quality - its taking shape & hopefully we won't have to wait too long till we get it.   Neat video is great, but i don't like Cinestyle & have gone with VisionTech (by Visioncolor), which i find much more pleasing. Its all personnel taste in the end - try a few flavours, as there are loads of free PS out there.
