  1. Red could be using some form of noise reduction and applying it to RAW which other manufactures don't do (yet:(). If true, ISO performance won't be that impressive. We need more tests ;).
  2. That's a good point. I've checked it and JPEGs are indeed sharpened on A7RII even when sharpening is disabled according to some tests. These kind of practices really pi* me off. That's why I don't like Sony's approach. I think it's bad. Deliver on paper, people buy based on specs, disappoint later. That will force everyone to lower quality, IMHO. It's taking away sales from companies with higher standards (one example is overheating) and companies that don't cheat (still sharpening when it's clearly disabled in camera is cheating, isn't it?).
  3. Yeah, very true, but then they have other compromises. There is no perfect camera ;).
  4. Wow, the difference in details is as big as the difference in colour! I'd still take canon's image as I think colour is more important than most things and it seems that by the time sony's footage is matched to canon all the grading latitude is gone. I wonder when Andrew makes his part 2 review of the 1DX II. He might have a lot more to add... @jcs: couldn't the lack of details be due to an AA filter rather than a downsampling algo/sensor?
  5. This too! BTW. what tutorials did you use to edit landscapes like that?
  6. This is a chart so it's not a real world scenario and it's one stop of difference anyway. Get a file from a new sensor and play with it yourself. Before 1dx ii couple stops of difference was obviously noticeable in real world but now you have to check for yourself. It's just that according to your 4 main points from the first post it ticks all the boxes. You didn't even list: "dynamic range must at least much Nikon's sensor" which now seems like a major one and the rest doesn't matter ;). In that case, 1dx II is obviously not good.
  7. EV is like 0.5 of a stop better at ISO 100, that's negligible. It trumps D5500 in everything else and that's what you pay for. The best balanced body on the market so you don't have to take 5 different cameras fromy sony and nikon as you've just realized yourself ;). Sensors are similar nowadays from entry level to pro level in FF category. File size might be a problem but that's easy to overcome by buying more cards ;). btw. nice photos
  8. Highly unlikely, they haven't done ML for 1DX because canon started threatening anyone who tried to tinker with their flagship, not because it had dual CPU AFAIK.

Hey, Doesn't background's sharpness bother you a little bit? It's sharper than she is which makes her look a little bit soft (to me at least). Other than that, I like it :). BTW. Did you test 1DX II for hot pixel issue as described here? People on dvxuser forum suspect 1DXII might be prone to it.
  10. It would be nice if someone could test this. JCS, Andrew?
  11. Wow, this seems like a serious issue if true.
  12. There is also a third model which I think Sony has taken (it's also quite a new approach). Don't you think Sony delivers features but a lot of the time they're not 100% reliable like on Canikons? They're unreliable to the point that some people after initial OHs and WOWs switch back. The third model is based around Lean startup method in which you intentionally release lower quality products in order to improve them later on.(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lean_startup). The idea is to get a "good enough" product on the market ASAP and improve it over time (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lean_startup#Minimum_viable_product). This way you can release cutting edge technologies earlier and more often, cut the costs (less testing time etc) and get feedback from customers earlier. The downsides we all know, don't we ;)? We're all unpaid beta testers all the time in a way. There is also something called split testing in which "different versions of a product are offered to customers at the same time" - sounds familiar, doesn't it? It'll be interesting to see which model will come out first in the end, though!
  13. What's Nikon's standard timeline? I was hoping they would announce something now but they didn't. Waiting another year for a D750/D810 replacement is quite a long time. One semi solution to keep the cost down would be to use A-mount sigma art lenses :).
  14. Start here: http://www.sony.com/electronics/interchangeable-lens-cameras/ilca-99m2/specifications
  15. Check out D750 vs 5D IV guys, D810 is quite a bit older. DR range wise, D750 is already ahead at low ISOs and a match at 800+.
  16. Did you mean 1DC's raw file out of the box? JPEG is obviously processed in camera raw file.
  17. Sensor wise, compare D750 with 1DXmk2. 5Dmk4 will have pretty much the same sensor technology but lower spec (historically speaking that was true for 5dmk3 and 1dx). Check all measurement tabs and draw your own conclusions. https://www.dxomark.com/Cameras/Compare/Side-by-side/Canon--EOS-1D-X-Mark-II-versus-Nikon-D750___1071_975 AF wise, people fight back and forth about it so I'd say pretty close. Maybe better in canon due to newer technology but I'm pretty sure nothing groundbreaking and crushing Nikon's AF system. That has never happened and it won't happen now. If 5dmk4's AF system is +- 2x better (2.5x price) to what D750 offers then I'd reconsider because I'm heavily invested in EF lenses. It's unlikely though. So that covers most important features for portrait/photojournalism/wedding/travel? If I wanted higher resolution camera I'd go D810. I'm still going to wait for a couple of months for price drops, proper reviews etc. but not holding my breath. I've been waiting for this camera but not going to overpay for it. It's not a bad camera, though. Just not worth the price for me.
  18. Video is one thing in which I understand canon doesn't want to push things but they fail in stills department too. D750 is 2.5x cheaper and is pretty much equal to 5dmk4 (in stills department)! DPRAW might even out canon's AF issues, though ;).
  19. Even though I do stills mainly there is no point paying almost 3x D750s price, IMHO. If I was making money from event videography (or any money from photography, haha )I'd consider 5dmk4 though, DPAF is worth paying the price for that. It's revolutionary in my opinion. Selling all those beautiful lenses will be heartbreaking, though :(. Buying all those Sigma ART lenses will put a smile on my face afterwards ;).
  20. Do think that's the whole story? It doesn't all add up because Nikon doesn't have C-log as well and they don't have anything to protect. If it was just to protect their 10k$ camera then what is Nikon protecting?
  21. The world is far from perfect, therefore it's clearly a combination of different factors, ie. deadlines, focus, licenses, resources, margins, costs... etc. adding features is not free, it stretches all of the above. In pro bodies it's even tighter because everything has to work. People rely on these things to make a living, trust to the equipment is therefore huge and must be maintained, even if it means sacrificing the latest bells and whistles. Think about why cheap bodies get a lot of new features that pro bodies lack? It's an enormous beta testing playground...
  22. Guys, chill out, things aren't easy. What makes no sense to you might make perfect sense to somebody else. To complicate it even more, if they lose, it doesn't mean they were wrong. Only one thing has 100% chances of happening. Our death. Your plan might be 95% perfect but you still can fail. This doesn't make the plan bad. The truth is, there is no point in talking about those things. Spend your time shooting/making money/spending time with your family instead ;).
