  I'm still studying but also work as a camera operator filming local sports, seminars, local news, live events etc. currently (until a few days ago) I edited on a macbook pro and the imacs at uni, I'd use them for my own work and also some basic editing for work. I don't currently use after affects but this year we will be getting into the basics of it, I don't necesarily need a computer for heavy after affects work though. I shoot my own projects on a GH3 (previously a 5D2) and as far as editing goes for me it's usually pretty basic stuff, I am usually filming short documentaries and I also make a lot of short films about different destinations so editing is usually very basic, I would however like to be able to advance into color grading (I was thinking about maybe looking into Da Vinci Resolve since it has a free version and would be good to learn as well as use for my own projects) but I also want a computer that my editing and color grading etc will be able to advance with.   At the moment I don't think I need anything super powerful, I was thinking about a low end iMac or a custom built PC. I was told it is possible to work a project between both final cut and premiere, is this correct? Something about a save file that they can both read?

Due to my Mac dying I'm looking to buy a new computer but also upgrade my editing software.. I currently edit with FCP7 but am unsure of which software to upgrade too. From what I understand many people are jumping ship to Premiere? I've watched a few reviews and it does look really good, but is FCPX really that bad??   Just curious to see what others are currently editing with and what they think about the current situation of FCX and people switching to premiere.

I want to buy some old "legacy" lenses, I already own a Nikon 50mm f/1.2 and 200mm f/4 from my parents old film days. I am also looking at some older Olympus/Minolta/Pentax lenses since they seem to be A LOT cheaper than their Nikkor equivalents. My question is, I know certain brands of lenses have their own aesthetic.. Will switching between brands of lenses be very noticeable? Since you're supposed to "shoot flat" for video then grade in posts (I don't currently do this - I plan to learn) does that get rid of most of the image aesthetic each lens has and make it easy to match the look/color balance/clarity etc of all the shots? Or will the specific look of each lens come through even when grading? Thanks

  Thanks Nahua, so you customize the vivid profile itself to ""-3 contrast, -5 sharpness, -4 saturation and -5 noise reduction" instead of using the custom profile? Any particular reason why you decided to customize the vivid setting instead of one of the others or just using the custom picture profile?   Thanks.

Just wait for the focus peaking? Before the GH3 was released, after everybody found out tht it wasn't going to have focus peaking people would constantly ask the Panasonics reps about it (there's videos of this, they were all posted on 43rumors etc) Te reply was always along the lines of it not being a hardware issue but a firmware one and that since it is such a requested feature to expect it in a firmware update at some time.

Just hoping someone could help me out with a good "picture profile" for color grading on the GH3, be it the best preset one or the best choices for the custom one. I am only just beginning to get into color grading my footage so I'm not sure how far to drop the settings (Sharpness, Contrast etc) in the custom profile..   Thanks.

What exactly is the fascination of a FF GH3? Seems unnecessary.. If Panasonic decide to increase the size of the sensor it should be to S35 not 35mm FF............... Why drastically increase the price for near to no benefit whatsoever? Just look at what the BMCC does with an even smaller sensor............................ Tell me again why Panasonic should make a 35mm FF camera?
