Just wondering what accessories those of you who have a BMCC are using? I was looking for some sort of polarizing sticker for the screen but it seems there aren't any available. Would sticking on a polarizing gel sheet work? (I can't believe a Chinese company hasn't made one of these yet). What about external battery? B&H sales rep recommended the Switronix PB70-BMCC PowerBase-70 Battery Pack. I plan on ordering the MFT version and getting a Nikon>MFT SB for Nikkor AIS lenses. HOPEFULLY it won't take too long to get the camera.. When I spoke to my local BMD reseller they seemed to have both models in stock or at least get them in stock very frequently.

Oh and comments about them tisking their reputation is laughable. They could literally take a dump in every BMCC box and delay it for another 12 months and while there is still nothig on the market that competes in terms of price and performance people will still buy the cameras aster than they can make them. I'm responding specifically about how it's so risky they are slightly behind schedule this year too.. I live in a small city in Australia where the market is much much smaller and just 1 of the stores has over 30 pre-orders. Point being only the mightiest of crybabies is actually going to cancel an order for either of the cameras. Not all will actually make the purchase people may change their minds for other reasons but only a small amount will cancel orders due to delays and Grant Petty will still e laughing all the way to the bank regardless.

I don't think you have any idea BMD works.. They aren't looking to be bought out and they definitely won't go belly up. The BMD cameras are only a small part of their business and have been a respected company for a long long time for other products they make at also highly competative prices.. How do this? By buying other businesses with tech they want and then bribging a highly polished product to market at insanely low prices compared to the competition. They aren't going anywhere an it's funny how several prople question their business strategy when it's been highly effective for so long. As for all the whingers about the price drop, while it could be slightly annoying GET OVER IT all rlectronic products devalue.. Maybe not in 1/3 chunks however the 5D2 dropped about $1,000 a year in small increments for 2 years running when I had one. I paid $4000 AUD when it was released 12 months later it was right aroud $3000 and a year after that $2000. I paid like what $1300 for a GH3 and within only a few months its like $1000. I can only feel for the folks who paid the $3000 and only have just received it within te last few months, that would annoy me too but that's just how it is with ALL electronics whether it hurts your feelings or not.

lol.. I will have to talk to my local BMD reseller. Last time I spoke to them it seemed like they had a few units in stock and that everyone was waiting for BMPCC and BMCC 4k. Maybe because it's AUs? demand would be smaller over here.

Holy crap.. I think I might stretch my budget for a BMCC and get the BMPCC down the track a bit. ALSO a firmware update coming for BMCC too - Details at end of post. "Blackmagic Cinema Camera Price Reduction We have worked very hard over the last year to be able to build the Blackmagic Cinema Camera at a lower cost so we can reduce the price and allow access to digital filming to a wide range of cinematographers and photographers. We have done it and from today the Blackmagic Cinema Camera EF and MFT models will be reduced in price to US$1,995. This is very exciting and is one of the proudest moments of my life to be able to do this! I think people will be able to use the savings to invest in some exciting lenses and rigs to really boost the creative possibilities. The Blackmagic Cinema Camera is a fantastic design that's now well proven. The advantage of the 2.5K sensor is it has enough resolution to eliminate the bayer resolution loss of a HD sensor, but when shooting RAW it produces files that are too not to big to store and work with easily. It's a fantastic solution. All orders placed that have not yet been filled, can be reduced to the new lower price." ----------- "There are some new features in the software for the Pocket Cinema Camera. You can now focus by pushing the focus button when using an active MFT lens. This makes it very easy to accurately focus. The focus peaking feature is still there and you enable it by double pressing the focus button. The focus zoom feature is enabled by double pressing the OK button. There will be an update for the 2.5K Blackmagic Cinema Camera soon that will also add these features, plus new de-bayer processing that will improve the cameras sharpness when shooting non RAW files."

Official statement from Blackmagic on new camera shipping
/p/ replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I just spoke to my local BMD reseller (they are 2 mins away from BMD HQ) They spoke to BMD 2 days ago and were told the cameras are already shipping, however they had no ETA on when that particular store will receive the cameras. He also told me that they don't know where cameras will be shipped first and that 30+ cameras have been pre-ordered (I asked what the pre-order list is like). I asked about the original BMCC, how many units they received and how long it took to get the. He said They received 6 units of the original BMCC then 4 days later they received another 10. There didn't seem to be any delay between the camera arriving in Aus and the US (except for a few very large stores in the US who apparently got to make an order on the cameras well before they were announced) maybe this will be the case again where the largest retailers got to make orders in advance before other stores. -
Something else I'm looking to buy is a high quality ND set or Vari ND filter.. There is a pretty nice B+W ND set I like the look of (well it's not a set you buy each one seperately).. But I'm not sure what people are currently recommending as the best Vari ND atm. Also does anyone own or have tried the blackbird camera stabilizer? At the moment I am tossing up between it and the steadicam merlin 2.. Unless someone has any other recommendations. Thanks. I know I definitely want to add some movement to my videos... I know I definitely want a slider since I use one when for work and love it but don't own one of my own (the business I work for is also extremely large and gear is shared between many people so it's hard to loan it out for a day). As for the shoulder rig and stabilizer.. I know they do different things but I am honestly not sure which will suit my needs better so I am still considering both options. I don't want to be stuck to a tripod all the time, a rig would make it far easier to move around an event correct? However the stabilizer would make the smoothest possible movement shots? Still undecided on which I want to get first.. I probably won't buy both a stabilizer or shoulder rig at the same time but choose one first and get the other later on. One thing I know is that I won't be buying any Zacuto products. I do like the look of the red rock micro products but have not had any experience with them but I like how you can buy everything separately.

I want to increase the quality of work I produce. I am currently working for a local business as a camera operator while I am studying but also want to slowly build up a business of my own. I currently shoot with a GH3 however I have money put aside for a BMPCC (who knows when I'll be able to get my hands on one) and also have saved a decent amount for stuff I don't yet have.. For example a decent audio setup. My main interest is shooting events and small documentary style shoots I am interested in purchasing several things but would like to hopefully get some good recommendations for different types of products. I'll be basing my set around the BMPCC for now but do plan to also get a BMCC or something similar down the track.. I will PROBABLY keep the GH3 for any slow motion stuff since I do really love the camera and I do like the slow motion effect. I'd say I am in the advanced enthusiast/Semi pro range, I wouldn't want to spend much more than $1000 on each product for now however I also don't need to stick to only the cheapest options. For example, I am interested in getting a steadicam since it will make my moving shots look a whole lot better. However I am not sure whether to go with something like the Steadicam Merlin 2 or Glidecam HD4000.. Not only that I am not sure whether to go with a Steadicam or something like a shoulder rig. What I already have is a decent Sachtler tripod so I don't have to worry about that for a while. I am just hoping to get some general information on items that may help me increase my (production value?) for shooting events and documentary style shoots. - Events could range from live events/festivals to weddings. Even recommendations on smaller items that may not get thought about as much.. For example several times I have thought "a gorillapod would have come in really handy right now" So.. I am going to buy a Gorillapod. This might be strange but I am also interested in any accessories that would be useful for shooting from different angles INSIDE of a car as well as accessories that would help for shooting outside of a car or other vehicles. THANKS!

Official statement from Blackmagic on new camera shipping

>that feel when you should have pre-ordered the BMPCC instead of waiting and now it will take forever to get one. Not really, in a few weeks I think I am just going to turn up at BMD HQ since I drive past it almost every week and try to buy one directly from them.. Wonder if it will work or not. -
Unless it's an overpriced POS Canon C100 am I right?

Andrew, will this be a recommended lens for the GH3 in your upcoming book? I may have the opportunity to get one though quite a bit more expensive than $60. However as the book isn't yet out and my time is limited I thought you may be able to let me know as I am waiting for your GH3 book for lens suggestions, the deal on this particular lens is time sensitive though. Thanks.

Those are great, I am also really impressed with what you're managing to do with such a little camera (it is a beast though). What custom photo style do you use?
-
How's it going GH3 owners? Still loving mine.. Any examples of work shot on the GH3 to share? I am still loving mine. What lenses are you using? What custom photo style is everyone using? (Curious to see what Andrew recommends when he releases the GH3 manual)..

Just avoid any setting that has "i" next to it lel (interlaced sucks). That leaves you with a 50p and 25p settings, both are great.. Use the 50p for slow motion and 25p for everything else.

Thanks Andrew. I have a GH3.. I probably would have went for the G6 had I waited. Not much difference between them it looks like, and to me the G6 has a slightly nicer image than the GH3. Oh well, GH3 is still great even for the price considering the competition. Hopefully Vitaliy will give it a bit more magic too.

I bought an NTSC GH3 to shoot a huge sporting and shot everything at 1080p60.. The footage looked great and the camera worked well. However I am in a country that uses PAL but at that time there was nothing that could do slow motion at 1080p60 except the GH3 (and a few Sony's which I am not to fond of) the PAL version wasn't yet available so I bit the bullet and bought it. It's not a global cam though so while it worked brilliantly for the outdoor event I don't have access to a 25p option. I can however shoot at 24p 1/50th and flicker is pretty much completely unnoticeable and non-existent but if you look closely it is present. I do plan on getting a BMPCC though (if it ever comes out..) which IS a global cam I hope that with a hack though the GH3 will also become a global cam. (Does anyone know if the GH2 NTSC cams got some PAL framerate options?) Thanks.
