  1. I really can't stand Zacuto or anyone who endorses their grossly overpriced and COMPLETELY overrated products. Also Kessler but I can only judge that opinion on the customer service/warranty horror stories I'v read online.   I find the (brandwhoring?) of Bloom completely obnoxious, you can't click on any of his blog pages without being bombarded with 15+ adds for sh*tty Zacuto/Kessler/PB branded products.   On the other hand, I don't mind Laforet. I think he is more open about his partnership with Canon which he has had long before he got into DSLR filmmaking. If you go to his blog you will find pretty much no adds except for the section where it is clearly labeled "Blog Supporters" Canon, Kessler etc. There is a blog post about the Move which I think is a product he was genuinely excited about.   I am however skeptical about his new website that is all about gear.. This could potentially become a whole website dedicated to advertising certain brands (Blog Supporters?) But for the moment I still like Laforet.   All in all I prefer this website for things like news or product recommendations. I think there are some strong opinions posted about certain products but that it's pretty much an open forum for agreeing or disagreeing with what's been posted.   All that said.. I don't visit either PBloom or Laforets blogs anymore I pretty much just post and read news on EOSHD (I'v started browsing VK's Personal View site too). I will ocasionally check the other pages every 2 months or so just to see if anything worthwhile has been posted (very rarely has there been).
  2. Canon put video in the 5D2 because Nikon put 720P video in their Nikon D90.. The video feature in the D90 was 720P and aimed at consumers (the D90 is a consumer camera) when Canon put the video feature in the 5D2 it was extremely basic and wasn't even aimed at the filmmaker but the photojournalist, Canon admitted this years ago. It was only after filmmakers started buying it and using it that it evolved into what it is today.   I don't think the video in Canon or Nikon DSLRs had anything to do with RED whatsoever......
  3. I drove past BMD HQ yesterday, I might go in next week and say hello.
  4. Anyone got any opinions on mixing glass? Doesn't it make sense to shoot with a set of something like Nikkor AI-S glass so that you get a matching aesthetic/color temperature between all your lenses?   Anyone got any videos I can watch that had several different types of lenses used? Thanks.
  5. I think this was predicted a little while before Spielberg started talking about it................................ Spielberg didn't predict anything at all. You can't predict something that has been spoken about for oh I don't know several years already..    On another note I'll bet my life savings Pacific Rim doesn't crash and burn at all. And if I do lose the bet (which I won't) I'll lose a grand total of $7.
  6. Guess I'll shoot in .jpg then..
  7. Before I go ahead and buy Neat Video should I be looking at any other programs that do either as good a job or better?? Thanks
  8. I'v been wondering about video frame rates for a few days now.. Here in Aus we use PAL which means most cameras come with only 25p and 50p options. I was under the impression if I wanted to put something onto a DVD to play in a DVD player or put something on television it would have to be shot at 25p (maybe 50p is acceptable for TV too? Both are fine for DVD) also I was under the impression that you need 25p and 50p to avoid strobing issues.   BUT.. Most of the shows I watch on tv are American.......... Also, aren't most movies in Hollywood shot at 24p? And they work fine on a DVD???? I am so confused. Not only that I'v tested 24p 30p and 60p under fluorescent lighting and as long as I double shutter speed (24p 1/50th, 30p 1/60th, 60p 1/120th) I couldn't see any strobing at all.. You get strobing if you don't double your fps with your shutter but that also happens with PAL versions......   Can you put 24p onto a DVD and watch it on a PAL DVD player? And what's the deal with the TV stuff? Is there any reason not to shoot at 24p if you don't plan on putting your work on TV??    Sorry, just confused myself with all these questions.   FOR PAL PEOPLE BUYING BMPCC Are you going to shoot 24p or 25p? Why?
  9. Don't any of you follow Sonyalpharumors? Shieeeeet. Sony is pushing 4k harder than anybody, their DSLT roadmap was completely scrapped and the next releases will be early 2014 A-mount mirrorless cameras.   I don't doubt at all that these will be shooting 4K since the released Sony statement says they will be pushing 4K not to mention they have already shown the 4K prototype at NAB there were even pictures posted of it on EOSHD.. I doubt the first one will be under 2k but I highly doubt it will be a whole year before the features go down into lower a77 tier models.
  10.   That looked like it really hurt too.
  11. Oh great, Another quality real world MTV series to look forward too...
  12. Wonder where they are located, one of the Ford plants is closing down in my city.
  13. I really like the Sony alpha cameras (I have a couple friends with a77's) however the image quality is just not on par with the GH3 or even a hacked GH2.. However, don't get caught up in the IQ of cameras.. Pretty much everything is doing acceptable quality these days, it would be far better to buy the camera that feels the best in your hands and that you on't loathe using. Sure you could spend $3,500 on a 5D3 but what are the pros and cons? Well excellent low light performance for one and "dat bokeh" but it's really not that sharp ($500 GH2 is sharper..... Unless of course you count the new RAW hack, that won't get you through a wedding though unless you use it as a B-cam and have something with a longer recording time as your main cam) and you have to use some sort of loupe on it, not to mention that is far more expensive than cameras like the GH2/3 that outperform it in other areas.    Nothing stopping you buying Sony either, the GH2 and GH3 will outperform the alpha cameras too.. But is it even that important? The alphas still shoot full HD and with 50/60P options available, they have a high quality EVF so you don't need a loupe if there's glare on your LCD screen, focus peaking while recording (nothing else has this and it's amazing) and in body IS, you could also pick up an a65 or even a NEX6 as a B-cam since they shoot pretty much identical looking footage. For run'n'gun style shooting I don't think in terms of features there's anything better.   If you invest in alpha lenses you could also adapt them to something like a Sony FS100 down the track with the Sony LE-EA2 adapter.    There are some guys that post wedding videos that they have shot on youtube, they use alpha cameras (a99 being their main camera) and the videos look great so try not to listen to people if they are recommending you something based solely on IQ.    One example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeafpzY2Dvw
  14. Is any of this stuff relevant to other Sony cameras? (alpha and NEX)
  15. The GH3 is basically identical to the OM-D in terms of IQ since they most probably share the exact same sensor.
  16. Metabones has the most retarded business strategy ever, they get everyone all excited then start with the stupidest versions possible and slowly release the versions people want after the buzz has died down???? I's like they have no idea who they are marketing this thing too.. Who knows, maybe I'm just not cool or not in the loop........ I don't even know wtf ALPA or Contarex lenses are. Meanwhile people seem to be snapping up the Lens Turbo (even though it's probably inferior in quality) because 1. it's cheaper and 2. they had the crazy idea of releasing popular lens mounts first (crazy right?). >my face when waiting for he Nikon F to m4/3 Speed Booster Meanwhile all you lucky people get you use your ALPA and Contarex versions.
  17. I got into video after doing photography for several years, all the video cameras I have had have been DSLR type cameras. After using a proper Sony video camera I have come to like the form factor much much better and am now considering a Sony NEX-VG20 or maybe even the NEX-VG30.. It seems like it might be a bad time to buy one though? With the new BMPCC and 5D RAW etc is it possible something good could come from Sony in the $2,000 range shortly? Or maybe the FS100 will get an update making the original FS100 a bit more affordable? I am pretty set on Sony atm as while they might not have the best raw IQ straight out of camera the Sony cam I have been using at work is the only piece of gear I'v been able to rely on 100%.   Is it even worth thinking about or should I just go ahead and get one?   Thanks.
  18. I pay a monthly fee for Premiere, for the moment it suits my needs (no more expensive than World of Warcraft was in my teens) this year it will work out at $360 which is actually not that cheap really, however if I decide to buy a longer subscription than just 1 month the cost goes down. I was also very happy with the 5 day grace period and thought that was a nice touch.   At the moment I am making a little money shooting and editing a 30 minute show every week, I may feel differently when money isn't coming in and I am expected to keep up with a subscription as opposed to buying a program once and not having to worry for a few years until you upgrade again.
