The 1 second pulse looks like a post effect to me, easily done with square wave keyframing on luminance channel

Thats just what I have been looking for, a 56-152mm T4 zoom scope that weighs 5 lbs     NOT  :P

I have just won a Soligor CD 8/500mm mirror lens, the rare smaller one to put behind Big Bob (see pic below). Big Bob has a rear optic of 80mm and the Soligor is 72mm so all should be OK, when it arrives.   As you know mirror lenses produce interesting aperture reflections which are round but have a hollow center because of the central mirror. (those of you may remember the Capt Scarlet & the Mysterons, a puppet show on UK TV)   Anyway, I have been thinking about what the aperture reflections will look like and indeed what the bokeh will look like when it is anamorphosed.   It may be  1 oval outside with an oval hollow 2 oval outside  with a circular hollow 3 something else   What do you think?   Also what will happen to the flares? They may be 4 horizontal continuous lines as usual 5 horizontal broken lines     I have a box of virtual cigars for the winners :P

Hey Seb,   You seem to have some issues with your telecine.   If you are doing it yourself and your target is 25p, then set your projector to 16.66 fps and record the screen using PAL 25fps interlaced. If your projector does not have precise speed control settings, vary the speed until the position where the flicker vanishes.   Then in post deinterlace and slow down to 24p if needed.   Hope this helps

I watched Dune again last night, Ive forgotten the number of times Ive seen it.   But for the first time I noticed Lynchie was in the movie, a spice worker rescued by that helicopter thing when there was worm sign.   He didnt have the Eraserhead hairdo then though :)

Should have done it in choc brown   It could then have been picked up as a Cadbury Flake ad  :)

Of course it set the scenes for later Star Wars and Chronicles of Riddick rip offs, just that Dino should have thrown more money.   The first part of the movie is pure class   Princess Irulan: A beginning is a very delicate time.     To be fair Lynchie has already done that and got his ass kicked.   I refer of course to Dune. A magnificent movie until the money ran out.   The first ten minutes blew me away and still does every time I watch it.   "I am not here, I didnt say this"

Some great movies were shot in Scope in the 50s & 60s using double focus, so I don't think its a barrier to good production values. Moving forward my favourite Scope movie is Chinatown, where I believe Polanski got everything right in the subtle use of the tool. I can't remember any focus pulls in that movie, so he just let the acting and story come through instead of having distractions like backgrounds changing shape. Also getting wider shots for tele lenses became a trend. Everyone seems to be asking what is the widest focal length lens you can use with this or that scope, where perhaps they should be asking what is the fastest tele lens you can use with this or that scope, after all its all about the compression, surely? If its not about the compression then just cropping the image would make life a lot easier and you then can pull & follow focus 'till the cows come home.

To be honest, I thought the whole idea behind scope is to get the same aesthetic as you see at the movies. I dont know of many major movies shot in 1.33x or 1.5x anamorphic I am referring to the burnt-in 2x compression, not the aspect ratio. to me, and apologies if it upsets some people, 1.5x is literally only half way there. As regards focus pulls in anamorphic, for example Jack Reacher has a handful of them, which I find distracting.during dialogue. I suppose thats why I remember them :)

I thought the fundamental idea behind the digital cinema revolution was that it enabled Cinema managers to download and screen what they believed to be suitable/profitable for the 'local' cinema-goers from the giant hard disc in the sky.   The old model for distribution must change to suit this century surely?

Have they solved the issue with the focus points showing in the footage?

To be honest, I dont have interest in 1.5x Having said that, I have been curious to why I haven't seen too much follow focus or pull focus with the Iscoramas. If indeed the throw is too much it kind of defeats the main advantage of these units. Does anyone know if the rehousing modification improves this focus throw issue?
