  1. Is this a Brazilian thing?   First we had Apefos and now you - must be something in the water :)   Any decent type of housing, properly precision engineered with focus helicoid etc is gonna cost $$$$$$$   A cheap alternative similar to the video but with more mojo would be adapting old Hasselblad bellows - just mount the glass font and rear and you're done.   http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hasselblad-40223-Round-Bellows-NICE-662-WARRANTY-FREE-USA-SHIPPING-ROBERTS-/140951671540?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20d15fd2f4
  2. There are some nice cheap cine zooms out there, something like a 2/18-90mm would be perfect
  3. Have you used this unit at wide open 2.8/200?   Does the 63mm rear aperture of the CZ mean you cannot go wide open?
  4. Which 2x scopes are known to work with 2.8/200mm lenses on full frame and without vignetting and without clipping of the aperture reflection?
  5. Putting any filter in front of the scope will affect flare performance.   If the front of the scope is concave, it helps to produce flares from off camera light sources. So if you put a flat glass filter in front of that than the off camera light will be reflected and reduce the flare intensity or stop them completely.
  6. Hi Otto,   I place mine between lenses, but I find it does not matter where you place them.   In front, between lenses or you can even have them........... inside your camera :)
  7. its time to start scooping up Cmount lenses, before the goldrush
  8. These things are far too bulky and would require too much maintenance.   MEMS GYROS are the future with small embedded computers like arduino, rasberry jam   Think handle grip, a cube of 100mm sides which sits on top containing all the works ,  then a NEX sized camera sitting on that. Not much bigger than a large ice cream cornet at Disneyland   Finally to get mass market appeal, you need to take out the footsteps from the footage --- 4 degrees of motion.
  9. On the NEX in video mode you have half press shutter button AF or touch panel focus AF and continuous object tracking AF.   The key is the lens used. With your scopes the E1.8/50mm would be a good match, give great bokeh and you could definitely get a great 2.35:1 crop.   Basically just focus the scope and let the NEX find focus, which it does without hunting in good light.
  10. Hi Andreas   You should know that the units you purchased are much bigger than my Moeller   1) They are large and weigh 1100g each 2) The closest focus is 6m, so you must use diopters, but they are very sharp.   Having said that, the answer to your question regarding autofocus is as follows.   On the Nex (including FS100, FS700) you can focus the scope and the NEX will track the focus automatically, so follow focus of a subject in motion is possible. Alternatively you can use the touch screen to select focus after focussing the scope which is useful for pull focus.   On the Canons, Nikons you can half press the shutter as I mentioned in the other thread.   Basically it reduces the task to a single focus which is done on the scope.   I aim to put up a video in a few weeks to show this procedure.     edit, for follow focus you must use a lens designed for autofocus video, not an older AF lens
  11. @ Nick   No footage yet, I have only just put the final touches to the rig - still waiting on minor parts like metal knobs etc.   I did a quick test with stills with the Moeller and Auto 110 2.8/50mm see below   The first is at MFD plus 1 Zeiss Proxar and the second with 2 Zeiss Proxars 0.5 bayonetted together, sharp enough for me :P
  12. @Andy   Yes the auto 110 lenses are little gems. I got the whole set with camera never used for just £30 - a steal any day of the week.   I find at HD resolutions the 2.8/50mm is sharp enough without stopping down, just Variable ND handles the light levels.   Just a bit of vignetting on the NEX, but perfect for GH2/3   With a scope crop to 2.35:1 the vignetting doesnt matter anyway :P
  13. I thought I would share some shots of my compact Moeller rig.   The tiny lens is the Pentax Auto 110 2.8/50mm lens, which has a rotating front element, which is not a problem in my setup and is just perfect for a 2.35:1 crop.   A really great feature is that I can set up for precision verticality once and thereafter all my shoots are perfectly aligned. Goodbye slanted video.   Another great feature of the lens support is that it lets me use auto focus rear lenses. I just focus the Moeller and half press the camera shutter to focus the rear lens and I am done. This makes life with a double focus system a breeze.   I decided to name this "Scope on a Rope" :P
  14. Strange fixed focus (@4m) Moeller. Its a 19/1.5x originally for S8 cameras but fixed focus only.   First time I've seen one of these, normally its the focus types that I usually see.
  15. Maybe useful  for a deep set lens like Helios   Anyway the OP drew a similarity to this one from Moeller, a single focus design   http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Anamorphic-Moller-Anamorphot-30-2X-attachment-Prime-cine-movie-Lens-Arri-RED-/121072856667?pt=Camera_Lenses&hash=item1c30812e5b&nma=true&si=%252BAqvEU1RkUlY6uU%252BeSPd5gKQD%252Bo%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
  16. @Hans   I am curious to know the level of barrel distortion on this unit   Do you have a "brick wall" shot that you could share?
  17. Lube is easy but messy You will need cotton buds, cocktail sticks (or toothpicks), zippo lighter fluid, precision screwdrivers, WD40, Helicoid grease Take photos and mark things that seperate - especially where the focus ring detaches. Access to the inner glass is more tricky.....unless you just want to blow out dust. If you want I can walk you through it if you take photos - info@transferconvert.co.uk
  18. I have not actively changed anything since registration. If you tell me how I can change it I will.
  19. Interesting about your experiences with Zeiss lenses.   Maybe it is to do with the effect on the entrance pupil when the scope is attached. Try looking through the scope from the front object side with and without the zeiss at the rear and cycle through the apertures.       Regarding mixing scope and spherical, ARGO is a good one, - they have scope and spheric going on in some of the same scenes
  20. Richard,   Off topic but....   What method are you using to remove the coatings. I have some scope elements that need to have the coatings taken off.
  21. A while back I read JJ Abrams talking about the flares in Star Trek.   http://io9.com/5230278/jj-abrams-admits-star-trek-lens-flares-are-ridiculous   in the article he says   "Our DP would be off camera with this incredibly powerful flashlight aiming it at the lens"   at the time I was unsure what he meant, now I realise that he meant HID flashlights which are incredibly powerful and also now common on ebay, so I have ordered one. :P
  22. As I said it was something I did a few years back on a long train journey to keep me amused. I had thought of just two blades (crescent shaped), but I didnt like the pointy tops and bottoms. For sure, once the ideal blade shape is found - just stamp them out from blue metal shim.   I take your point about wide open usage for effect, however my interest was using spherics in a follow focus situation where even small aperture reflection can be made to look scopish and is more practical especially if you have dual focus 2x scopes. I
  23. Love the shot @3:52, reminds me of a Clint Eastwood movie (Pale Rider?) I've just completed a relube of my 32/2x, now its silky smooth focus and I am waiting for good weather to put it through its paces. @FR what is the maximum focal length you have tried with this lens?
  24. Few years back, I was messing around with the concept of a variable oval aperture to replace the one inside say, a Helios 44.   Its a tricky technical problem , but I did manage to come up with a proof of concept (see pics)   I am putting it out there if anyone wants to run with it, there is more work to do obviously, but its a start
  25. Looking for vintage with character? Swirly Bokeh and Soap Bubble Bokeh??   1950-60s Meyer and Zeiss Jena are what you need
