The major cause of onion rings in the bokeh is the use of aspherical elements, in this case most likely in the host lens. These elements are made in a mould which if not polished out leave small ridges in the glass.

Successful fungus removal from an Anamorpjic lens?
JohnBarlow replied to Anthony Vallejo-Sanderson's topic in Cameras
There is tons of advice via Google search for fungus removal. However in your case with a potentially expensive lens, the key issue is removal of the elements, some of which will be glued in. Removal, cleaning and subsequent alignment is a job best left for someone who knows what they are doing, not for first timers on this optic. -
The Bescor 101 is a generic unit sold under many brands. It can be wired to operate wirelessly using a flash/remote shuuter trigger over 30 meters away, or through walls - YongNuo type ;)

You are absolutely crazy - but I like it! Thanks for keeping us informed. Also have you considered prism periscope with relay lens to reduce size?

I've been looking for a suitable zoom lens to work behind an anamorphic. I stumbled upon the Olympus Pen-F 50-90 F3.5, which seems to have the right kind of DNA. Its a half frame lens so is suitable for mirrorless APSC and below. Its relatively fast, not too far away from the F2.8 pro standard and has a front optic about 40mm diameter and of course has a nice range of 50-90mm at constant F3.5 https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=olympus+50-90+f3.5&espv=2&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=no-hU9L-DPSB7Qbds4CICA&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAg&biw=1057&bih=524 I don't know if its par focal If anyone knows this lens I would appreciate details, and if you have used it behind an anamorphic please report your findings.

I removed/unscrewed the spiral for projection use which reveals a 50mm thread, then its a 52-50 step down ring then into a helicoid which you can buy here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/M52-to-M42-Adjustable-Focusing-Helicoid-35mm-90mm-35-90mm-35mm-to-90mm-Adapter-/170840812847?pt=UK_Photography_CameraLenses_Lens_caps_hoods_adaptors_ET&hash=item27c6e7ed2f Then just add some M42 extension tubes depending on the camera, for mirrorless you will need size 1 + 2. The tripod mount ring is padded with some rubber strips cut from a sheet so its nice and sturdy.for this 4 inch front optic This lens is part of a family which mount the same way, the set is 1 ISCO Ultra AV F3.5 200-300mm purchased in England for £20 2 ISCO Cinelux AV F3.5 110-200mm purchased in Germany for €14 3 ISCO AV F3.5 60-110mm purchased in US for $11 so the helicoid gets a lot of use as well as for other lenses.... The lenses suffer from PF in high contrast areas which is easy to remove in post, see the 1:1 pixel below. The image is pretty good at 1080p

I thought I would introduce you to some big glass which can be had for cheap, in my case I paid £20 The ISCO 200-300 F3.5 is a Vario lens (not a zoom) used for 35mm slide projection, has a 4 inch front optic and is easily adaptable to any camera. First the lens followed by some test shots all at F3.5 of course

Ebay listing claiming to have "single focus" anamorphic adapter??
JohnBarlow replied to wallpaperviking's topic in Cameras
@wallpaperviking In future please use the existing sticky thread for questions of this kind -
Ive said this before and its worth a repeat.. All is required is to fit these cameras with a raw out port --- cost less that $50, is that so dumb? No downscaling either.

Photozone pitches them very close http://www.photozone.de/canon_eos_ff/864-sigma24105f4eos?start=2 however the focus shift when the Sigma is stopped down would be a deal breaker for me.
-
Sorry to hear this, sounds like they have converted it to dual focus. You have every right to kick off big time until you get satisfaction

There seems to be a price trend developing on these units http://www.ebay.de/itm/Anamorphic-Lens-SINGLE-FOCUS-RACK-FOCUSING-1ft-3m-Sharp-Iscorama-/171348590748?pt=Camera_Lenses&hash=item27e52c009c

The popular vote on this forum seems to be the RedStan clamps, which are highly regarded. There is also the Vid Atlantic clamps.
-
Yes I see, clamping the rear cell is not such a robust solution and is not ideal for many reasons. A good design would protect the cell from damage. A better mounting solution is required which would enhance its value. If you are interested in having something custom designed for this scope, PM me for details.

At last a chance to see this unit perform. Perhaps you can show some daytime footage? These units show up about 4/5 times a year, always without the back lens which would have been a Cooke Speed Panchro F2/50 or similar with focus mechanism. Before the resurgence of interest in anamorphic with the advent of large sensor cameras over the last 5/6 years, it seems that these units were scavanged for the Cooke SPs which is a great pity since the complete unit would be quite a treasure. How are you mounting it, do you have a picture to show?

Or imagine the Panny scaling algorithm in a Sony body - that 2mm shorter flange depth comes in handy with some lenses. -

do re me fa so la ti do If your music contains any of the notes from this musical scale in standard pitch - man you are in big big trouble. The 5 note rule is a myth - search Google for lawsuits less than 5 notes. Cue the close encounters signature tune... Already, I am in big trouble for breach of lyrics copyright. And the reason is The Sound of Music. Owned and copyright of Rogers & Hammerstein. And it brings us back to do... Ah they don't make em like they used to  -
Drop test from horizontal to vertical should be about 2 sec, adjust your mass distribution accordingly
