Yep, the big optics are cheap to buy. And if you have time to set them up on tripod they can deliver breathtaking imagery and also they attract a lot of respect from guests etc.
-
They sure have their uses and most importantly help you get the shot, where all else fails
-
It depends on where you want to take your cinematography. For example if you have a Malik type shot in mind of a pretty girl on horseback in a meadow reaching up to grab an apple from a tree in magic hour with all the butterflies around and such (can you see this shot in your minds eye?) then you might think F5@400mm To pull this off you will need one of these.... Rectimascop 80/2x On the other hand for a Wedding reception where you want to use a 2.8/70-200 Canon L on a 5D , you can use the WA Cinelux which has a 63mm rear optic This was shot with the above using 2/90mm Again the WA Cinelux will give the full height of the couple in a bokeh background at F3.2/200mm

Looks like you're ready to make the move to a scope with larger rear optic for bigger bokeh ;)

Shooting sports stills with anamorphic: Suggestions?
JohnBarlow replied to Ryu Voelkel's topic in Cameras
They should be fine too. I think you have to be patient if you're looking for a bargain to avoid the want it now prices. Always check for tool marks on the slots of the front retaining ring - this is a sure sign that an inexperienced person has been messing with the optic ;) -

For D4 I would suggest Kowa Belle & Howell version, should be fine with 85mm from F2 -

Welcome to the forum Ryu. I think you have pretty much nailed what you need. Good Luck -
I vote for lenses I vote for lighting & grip I vote for useful tips & tricks & DIY

I would extend this viewpoint to all cameras. Like lenses, some cameras have a look which is unique to that camera. So if you want that look -use that camera. Today we have choice, rejoice!
-
We should not lose sight of the fact that its the person behind the camera (and the lighting ) - its been said many times of course, but is an inalienable truth.

With audio the answer is simple 16bit is better than 12 bit because the signal is always 1volt peak to peak The situation with video is not that straight forward especially when slog2 is factored in. I still dont know the answer though
-
I have asked this before... Which is better 10 bit low sensitivity versus 8 bit high sensitivity?
-
Wind forward 4 years... You see a 5D3 and a GH4 on ebay --- which would you buy?
-
Looks to be a real bargain but caveat emptor of course. In front of a 2x anamorphic lens these should be able to record side by side 2 x 16;9 L+R images Now that is worth throwing 4k resolution at === stereo 3d scope whaaaaaaaaaaaaahh :) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/171313641708?clk_rvr_id=628892085743&item=171313641708&lgeo=1&vectorid=229508

The very underestimated problem of RADIOACTIVE lenses

So how many lenses like these do you need to fry up some bacon and eggs on set? -
According to photozone the Samyang spanks the Canon in all respects except AF of course but is 1/3rd of the price http://www.photozone.de/canon_eos_ff/657-samyang35f14eosff?start=1 http://www.photozone.de/canon_eos_ff/516-canon35f14ff?start=1

The very underestimated problem of RADIOACTIVE lenses
JohnBarlow replied to Junior's topic in Cameras
Yeah, I know that old trick :) Next door neighbour uses a six litre pack to clean her driveway.... Interestingly, some years back I watched a tv programme where three saucers where placed in front of cats and dogs in turn. The saucers contained milk, water and coke. Many pets were tested in choice and not one touched the coke, preferring either the milk or water. Hmmm -

Don't drink Coke :) -
Dunno Rob, all I know is its not sold already, quite strange for a lens only seen a few times per year if that
