  1. Nothing at all. Just stirring the pot by tossing around some vague platitudes. Political art should inspire healthy debate. Debating with people like him is like reasoning with a black hole.
  2. I hate it when I'm watching a tutorial or how-to and the actual how-to part is behind several minutes of pointless blabbing. 8 min video for something that could be explained in 30 seconds or a paragraph. That's the bane of limitless capture.
  3. That isn't true. You can just add weight to the rear of the gimbal to compensate
  4. A good quarter the time I spend editing is spent on this
  5. Yeah their "Light Gallery" isn't really exceptional considering marketing would be curating their very best shots.
  6. I've never done crowdfunding but from the people that I know who have, it only really works if you already have a large fanbase/network. Starting without or concurrently building one would likely be an exercise in frustration. And it tends to only work well in niche networks (conspiracies, UFOs, cult historical figures, etc)
  7. I'd have to really see the everyday holographic application of it. Because right now it seems closer to that Sharp 3D laptop that was a complete disaster. Without interchangeable lenses, they have a low threshold on the amount of directed creative you can draw out of a smartphone. By directed creative I mean making conscious choices to fulfill your vision instead of shooting for authenticity or in the moment type captures.
  8. Right but what I'm saying is that there's a cost in ownership and that it isn't necessarily the best idea for anyone to go get a 0% interest CC and max it out with camera gear planning to sell it just before the term expires. Even with insurance you can still be screwed over. Used $30k Maseratis also look nice but can you afford to maintain a $120k car? If not, then it's not a smart idea to buy one.
  9. Yeah that kind of works, but you're not factoring in an insurance policy for your new gear. Or at least be prepared to cough up for an expensive repair or worse the loss of the whole thing. With certain pieces of gear you can just sub to a rental house to defray the cost.
  10. Robots won't take all professional service jobs, they just let one person do the job of ten
  11. Impressive, but flying without line of sight is downright reckless.
  12. Does anyone make backpacks for my old Mac Pro towers so I can edit 4K at Starbucks? Must have exposed area so everyone can see the Apple logo
  13. That is one of the most hipster things I have ever seen in my life.
  14. There's some je ne sais quoi from vintage anamorphic optics that just hasn't been done right yet by any modern solution. Everything I see from SLR is a big meh. Are optics still that hard to make?
  15. The subtle flares on the reflections on the waves- nice capture
  16. Yeah I love the form factor but the edge softness is tough on this one. When focused closer it has a weird dreamy effect
  17. My favorite part of film Q&As- "hurr durr what camera did you shoot this on" 1- it's probably either Red or Alexa 2- how did you miss the giant "shot on RED" promo in the end credits?
  18. Frankly at this point anything you read from the motivation guru industry on social marketing isn't worth much at all. Books on how to become "known" and the like. The authors know damn well that the way things worked for them won't work for you (technically they will, but nowhere near as well) which is why they're willing to tell you all they know for a $9.99 ebook. Also the internet is the great haven for survivorship bias as for every Andrew Kramer making huge money with the internet and social media there are tens of thousands doing the same things and seeing zip So basically, if everyone else is instagramming their way to great gigs, then don't expect anywhere near their success starting from scratch. Learn to manipulate Google and Youtube because I'd bet 99 out of 100 filmmakers don't know jack shit about search engine optimization and you can sweep up a nice audience there (and then make real money selling "seo for filmmakers" books and seminars five years later) Personally, you won't find me on any social media, because I don't have time to do it halfway, and unless you're willing to go all out (and become the aforementioned D list celeb instead of a filmmaker) your time is better off face to face networking and building referrals from that. I've built a creative career with zero percent social media presence, 20% web presence, and 80% face to face presence
  19. Nice try, but you didn't reference God or family members multiple times. SCAM!
  20. All girlfriend cat and shrub videos will now look C I N E M A
  21. I'm definitely stoked for the cinematography for sure I read somewhere that the younger generation of today will have far fewer cultural properties to define their name by (or for filmmakers 30 years from now to exploit). Certainly seems to be the case. What will Hollywood be doing in 2035, rebooting Spiderman for the 17th time? Likely they will face a crisis like musicians do- when you're competing for ears today, you're not only competing with your contemporaries but with the entire historical back catalog of other artists. The 18-29 exploitable population gets younger and smaller and more distracted.
  22. Same first thought as I watched this trailer as well. I'd be so much more excited for this, if it were just original IP. Hollywood is too risk adverse to massively fund anything less than material with built-in audiences, and there are no shortage of original content creators groveling for six-figure budgets. Best of both worlds for them Big-budget sci-fi that's not derived, rebooted, sourced, or otherwise copied from something else- Interstellar, Inception, and ???
  23. I get that, I was referring to independent DPs, not those with huge budgets to work with. Never working with anamorphic and then renting a set for an important shoot isn't really advisable. The way you compose a frame is just different
  24. Anamorphic lenses are really the kind of gear people are better off to own (and learn to use) not rent.
