It is much more challenging to innovate rather than taking the screw it path, I don't have an original thought so I'll just go as dumb as possible and call it as satire/ironic/parody. I don't see this as any anti-Hollywood statement, other than "more stupidity for your money"

Well I just ordered my EF speed booster for the KineMini. Excited to eliminate two of the downsides of this camera- low light and crop factor. And now I have this non-speed booster EF mount lying around...

​If you've decided to shoot in raw. it isn't really. Cineform Raw is smaller than Prores while still retaining raw metadata. Unfortunately unofficial metadata support in Resolve is buggy but hopefully it will improve.

​This is true. I had planned for this even before purchasing a KineMini and still had to pretty much double what I thought it would be. However, the accessories that you need to buy are generally good investments that will outlast the technology. Being able to power your whole rig- monitors, LED lights, camera, powered accessories, from one large battery for hours alone is an incredible improvement on set.

​Suggest: Only big corporations cut through the noise- those who can and will pay to play. Facebook has been consistently cutting organic reach and replacing it with paid alternatives- really since they have become public. Conversion and engagement levels on social platforms are downright abysmal- I've seen data from my clients. We're talking about less than one percent in many cases. Generally, younger people are much more immune to internet advertising, block ads, block re-targeters, circumvent barriers, etc. And is it really a productive use of your time to follow X company with a profile full of posts of holiday wishes and number-title "shock" headline blog reposts? Only supported content can cut through, and only meaningful content will then move people to conversion. Not a bad thing really.

So now all we hear is "you have to tell the story" (you don't actually have to tell one- only say that you do). At some point, content curators will have to overtake content creators in importance. There's too much garbage out there. They will become the new, more granular alphabet networks and record labels, I suppose. Sometimes Vimeo feels like nothing more than skate/BMX videos, equipment tests involving bushes and animals, and porn being masqueraded as "art". Moving towards paid content makes them a better curator of quality content overall. The direction makes complete sense.

It would completely depend on what you were producing. Corporate, music video, VFX projects, features? Who are your clients, agencies, direct channel, other production houses? Wise investments for each will be drastically different.

It's not a conclusion, just an off-hand theory. Why spend money developing the DSLR line with features people have been clamoring for years for, when Magic Lantern will do it for you for free, with no need even to budget for liability and support for these features. That, and how aggressive they've been towards the ML community regarding the Cinema line. Makes me wonder what those cameras really might be capable of- if the technology to shoot 14-bit raw with 12/14 stops of dynamic range at any aspect ratio/resolution you please, up to HD, with full scopes, focus peaking, waveforms, etc- is available in a camera from 2008.

I wonder if the Magic Lantern team effectively encourages Canon NOT to develop the video side of their DSLR lines.

I agree with this. It's nice to have something with "character" but a smeary lack of sharpness at lower f stops on many lenses with might frustrate you for certain shots (shooting in low light/night for example). So it's good to have a few options at your disposal depending on the shoot.

Anyone know, by chance, how this lens compares with Zeiss primes? I need some wider Zeiss primes, but 18 3.5 and 21 2.8 won't cut it

​True of course, it's just a strong consideration when moving up to production cameras. Some things don't translate from the DSLR world, and storage space (and more importantly- storage and backup methods) is one of them.

So I did another test shoot yesterday and am transferring over the footage from KRW to Cineform Raw. The new 0.72 Kinestation update is FAST. Basically created Cineform Raw files ready to edit at real-time speeds, even on my older i7 machine.

The $/min is a great consideration for this as well, never something I really thought of much before, but the difference between 25c/min and $31/min is enormous.
