  1. Ok, thanks guys. Wow I just read about the GM1, and that little lens, what a super camera. That must surely be top of the pile.
  2. I thought the GX7 categorically did not allow focus peaking during video? I am looking for something to replace my D5200 with, as I just cannot live without focus peaking. Do the little RX100 do it? G6 is a bargain. Or I could pick up a cheap Nex.
  3. I think this got bad reviews prior to magic lantern hacks, but is it now as good as any other Canon cam?
  4. Trying to do anything on my D5200 I am just failing, particularly because you cannot magnify while recording, which is I assume how you would do it. TO me, this basically makes the camera pointless for video?! Can anyone offer some words of wisdom? Thanks!
  5. So I use a 5200 and need some sort of small stabilisation device. Any ideas? Thanks!
  6. Why can't they hack the OMD? Makes more sense that these Canon dinosaurs!
  7. Also, does this mean if they used this hack on, say, the 6d, you can kiss goodbye to the moire?
  8. Thanks Julian. So what is the res of each frame captured in video vs a still shot?   Does it also mean you can manipulate the video much better in PP as with photos?
  9. Oh I see, so its as simple as raw video never previously existed? I had no idea!   Does this have anything to do with, or related to, filming a video and every frame of the video being as good as a photograph?
  10. And what is this Magic Lantern Canon hack about?
  11. http://www.polygonsandwich.com/blog/2013/5/3/building-the-bomber-cam   I am absolutely blown away that the images how come out like they did, they just don't look like they're from a digital sensor.
  12. Fuji x100s (expensive) obviously not as pocketable as the rx100 but its got almost FF low light capability. And for me, that was key, since so much "shoot anywhere work" is low light and social events.   Ideally, I think you'd have a rx100 in your quick to get pocket, the X100s in a slightly harder to get pocket, and a 53mk3 in your man bag with a zoom in it and a 50mm prime. :)
  13. Yeah but whats actually happening and whats the difference, in scientific terms?
  14. Thanks guys, thats encouraging, not as bad as I thought. My other option here is to not actually use my GH2 at all, sell it (since I can get what I paid for it) and only use the OMD, which I also picked up cheap. Now I now thats not quite at the level of the GH2, but in only having one body (and I am not going to get rid of the OMD since it is my primary ITL camera) and using that money on glass.   I mean, its not a perfect camera for video, but then I am only just starting out...right? The IBIS means I can use any old glass stabilised or also use something like the 40-150 Oly which is great and doubles up very well for travelling and stills....
  15. As I get more into photography, I realise there are other things, like colour and contrast, that give each lens its characteristics. I can get my head around what happens inside a lens for it to be more or less sharp than another lens - I can conceptualise, for example, imperfections creeping in and causing the loss of detail. But I do not understand either how some glass, or some arrangement of glass, changes things like colour and contrast and also why there is not some objectively good colour and contrast that all lenses try and get close to. Can anyone help? Or suggest I read anything?
  16. The other issue I have come across, in my research, is that if this is for travel work, to remote places, if I hack my GH2 will it take up crazy space on my memory stick and burn through batteries? Thanks
  17. Thanks everyone.   My first project is going to be a short film of a tribal group of people in Arunachal Pradesh, North East India, but since this will involve a lot of travel I can just tell a lot of it is going to be handheld...
  18. Its very interesting that some people have said m43 are "too sharp" and digital looking, because thats precisely why I don't particularly like the output of the OMD for stills, and, conversely, why I love my Fuji x100s!
  19. Christ on a bike the vivitar 28-200mm f3.5-5.3 is cheap! :)
  20. Thanks guys.   What is the best way/best place to buy used lenses? I cannot seem to trust anything on ebay!   I should add that I am using this for documentary work, as opposed to anything "creative", and value flexibility and speed over certain lovable characteristics of a lens
  21. Please let me know if you think this is a good idea..    I am a total beginner, looking to learn how to shoot. I am therefore interested in starting on a budget. I managed to pick up a gh2 for $500. When I started to look at the price of the best m43 primes I started researching going to a Nikon camera, and then spent some weeks wondering what to do. Now I have decided to stay with gh2, but I'd quite like the versatility of using m43 lenses as opposes to legacy ones.    I already have the Oly 45mm, Pansonic 14mm and I am thinking about getting the 40-150. Do you think I can do everything with the 3 lenses, at least when I am starting? Is there anything else I should consider?
  22. Given the price of the Nikon 5200, I think the GH3 is not worth it
  23. Is this generally an ok experience even if not as good as with the D lenses. I am not a dedicated film maker and its really only for casual use, will it be ok?   Thanks!

    D7100 Review?

Hi guys/Andrew   How does the D7100 square up video wise? If its anything like the D5200, thats good enough for me, and it would therefore make a great all round camera. Good high ISO, cheap primes, great video, great AF. Does everything!
