  1. The 18-55 is one really serious piece of glass, plus it has OS. I can't see why someone would go over it for the 16-55. If you need 16mm, but the prime!
  2. The problem of the new Mac Mini it's that once you put 16Gb RAM and 512Gb SSD (minimum 2018 standards) and you add a eGPU, it costs the same as an iMac, but with the iMac you get a nice monitor. The only Mac Mini advantage is transportability, if you need to have something you can throw in your backpack.
  3. A quick test I did the other day, I love the files that the X-T3 produces, even if my Macbook Pro is not very happy about h265 and 4K 60p...
  4. I finally got a X-T3 myself. It's a great camera! Now I have to find the time to read the manual, because menus are loooong and full of options. The IQ out of the camera is incredible.
  5. Returning to the theme of the article, bloggers/youtubers are getting a free meal today, but I am not sure they are destroying the online-review world either. The final client just want something easy to value their next purchase. Now that megabytes on sensor is dead, this too-nice-to-be-true reviews are what the doctors ordered, unfortunately.
  6. If you buy a RAW camera, then you must CC properly. Those red "problems" seem more a CC problem, than a camera problem.
  7. It's time for me to get a new camera! And I am torn between the XT3 and the Sony A7 III both with the kit lens. I have a set of russian m42 lenses and a set of Olympus OM Zuikos, plus several Canon EF-S (18-135mm, 10-18mm, Sigma 30mm, 50mm macro). I love to shot hand-held, so I feel Sony's IBIS and full frame would exploit better my lenses. But at the same time I love everything about the Fuji!!! Can I get a cheap adaptor which would permit me to use the Canon lenses with at least aperture control and IS on the Fuji??
  8. I read this for a second: "Fully articulating screen would be ok by me, but a better experience with the playmates..."!!! Fuck the articulating screen, gimme da playmates!!! ;-DD
  9. I had to buy a Mini-DV walkman because in Europe we couldn't have DV-in enabled through Firewire. I love the idea of UE, but hate how it has been implemented.
  10. I don't agree, unless we are talking about "commercial art" which are two words that don't go well together.
  11. Every time I read "Movie critics..." I remember that 2001 Space Odissey had bad critics when it premiered. In the top 10 of useless professions, movie critic must be on the top!
  12. The UE defending the non-existing european camera producers with unrequested taxes. Or are they defending ARRI Alexas??
  13. So I assume you can rehit record every 30 minutes for a couple of hours, no problem? I would love the sensor of this Sony and the codecs from the GH5!!! ;-)
  14. If you are going to a resort, maybe it's not necessary. If you want to go deeper in the country and travel with equipement, I think is a good idea to get insurance. I can't help you with any company.
  15. I have the Sony A7 III in my mind. If someone has it and have found big problem, please tell me. And a couple of basic questions: does it overheat?? Can you record a couple of hours straight?? Thanks!
  16. Start small, it's easier to grow than to shrink! Why americans can't do anything without insurance?? In Europe we just insure cars, and because you are forced to!!!
  17. I have work in several film festivals, even created one from scratch. Mostly when there were 10% of the festivals that now exists. Main factors: Public: You need people watching the films, besides the boy/girl/friends of directors. Maybe you can sync your festival with some other event that assures you people. All the festivals that survive do so because they have a public. Selection: Local short-films are a good start for easiness, but most will probably suck (sorry for the lack of optimism). So either accept only short ones (less than 5 minutes) or comedies, you can't accept ALL unless you hate humanity and your public. Most directors of shortfilms that suck probably won't be happy to talk about their work. You can embrace "suckness" (?) and do a trash comedy festival. Or a 24 minutes to do your trash film competition.
  18. 8K is good for VFX/360º only, but we will probably see it in wedding videos and porn too!
  19. Eric your dedication will pay off!!! Thanks a lot!!!
  20. I am often right in my predictions, but never tried to make money from it! GoPro should have made a GoPro PRO model, but long time ago.
  21. I saw it several days ago, italian dubbed, 2D, in a nice theater choosed by the sound system. The film was too loud because several people complained about it. I think that's what marketing departments are good at, fuck things up. The louder the audio, the happier the people?? Make their ears bleed!!! In Italy most theaters project films in two parts, to sell pop-corn during the break. So I had a 10 minute break in the middle to complain about this really absurd costume!!! But in any case I loved the film, even if there were a couple of moments where I didn't understand very well. (Spoiler) I could have lived without the Elvis parts! Making a Bladerunner second part was not an easy proposition. And the fact they didn't do Bladerunner II, copying everything, was a brave step. I think it's one of those films that the more you watch, the more you like!
