Ok everyone, thanks again for your comments… you've all convinced me to seek audio help. I've been debating on doing this for the last 6 months or so... Oh well, better late than never, right? But one of the biggest reasons I haven't sought help, is because I can't afford to pay a pro. However, I'm willing to give them a percentage of the profit… maybe 10% of net? I don't know what's reasonable though, because I will probably have to give up a more to distributors and advertisers. Does anyone have any helpful thoughts on how I should approach finding an audio editor, that will work for a percentage. I've already done about 90% of the audio in the entire movie, but it will probably have to all be redone or fixed, since it's about the same quality as the trailer. Thanks!

Thanks, I appreciate that... I'm trying to fix the audio, but I'm not quite sure what's wrong with it. I'm kind of learning as I go with the audio. Can you explain what's messed up about it, and possibly how to fix it? I'm at the point where it sounds better than it did, but still doesn't sound right. The problem is, I don't really know how to make it better. I'm using Adobe Audition, if you have any advise.

Thanks man, I appreciate that… you totally get what I was going for with the comedy and look. I'd like to find some scratched film overlays to give it that super gritty look. I have Gorilla Grain, but it's not even close to as gritty as Death Proof/Planet Terror overlays. Rodriguez inspired me to become a filmmaker with his 10 minute film school. I was living down in Costa Rica, surfing, building houses, and watching shitloads of B movies, and then I ran across "The Robert Rodrigues 10 Minute Film School". After watching it, I decided that I was going to be a filmmaker. My wife and I made our first short movie "Dead Monkeys" while we waited for my wife's green card. Here it is https://vimeo.com/44907754 maybe you'll get a laugh out of it. It's suppose to be one of those "It's so wrong it's funny" type movies… kind of like "Squat". I think Squat is very funny… I still laugh at certain parts, even though I've seen it a million times. I'll make sure let you know when I'm finished.

Well, thanks for the insight… I'm with you on the music. I don't have an ear for music, and have had a rough time with the audio in general. But picking music has been a bitch. This is my first crack at a trailer, so I'm sure it could be done much better, using what I have. The acting is what it is… I would have liked to rehearse more, but just getting the actors to show up during production was hard enough. I had 5 people drop out a week before and during production. It sucked to have to replace people the same day someone dropped out during production. I did it though, and stuck to my schedule(16 shoot days)… which was a huge challenge in itself. Some days I really wanted to call everyone and tell them that day was canceled. But then I told myself, fuck it, just get it done dummy! Also, the only reason I mentioned the camera etc., was because I like it when people do that on their videos, especially on sites like this one. Had nothing to do with showing off… it's not like it's the nicest gear either. If I said it was shot on an Alexa with Hawk Lenses, then I mite be showing off gear. The reason I mentioned the Iscorama is so you would watch it, and to get opinions on how it looks. I'd like to improve this movie as much as possible before I release it, so if you have any advise that's doable, let me know. I'm looking for some scratchy film grain to make it look grittier. Maybe that will make it look less SyFy'ish.

Thanks everyone, for the kind words and constructive criticism… in case you're wondering, this movie is not a serious one. It's a ridiculous redneck comedy, so the acting isn't so bad, once you realize how ridiculous it is. I shot it for 10k(actors and locations), doing all of pre and post solo. My wife and I shot the movie. I also had to act in it, because I couldn't afford to pay someone to play my part(redneck in the truck). Sometimes there was no one behind the camera. I hope I can get some help on my next one, which is a lot crazier than this one, but it's hard to find dedicated filmmakers in Sacramento, CA.

Here's the trailer for a movie I shot last year using an Iscorama/helios/jupiter9/minolta 35mm and FS700 with Blade recorder. It's a no budget, lowbrow, dark comedy. It's no Oscar winner, but it's my first feature film and it's almost ready for distribution(hopefully).
-
@mtheory… They say there is 1 stop less of DR, but I don't see it. I really like the look too! It's a lot more organic than the FS700. Although I shot a feature film on the FS700/Atomos Blade, with an Iscorama lens and it looks pretty nice. Sounds like shit though… had to replace 90% of the sound and dialog.
-
@mtheory… the rolling shutter can be pretty bad in S35 mode, if you're not careful, but it's manageable for me. I don't think it is any worse than my FS700 was. In sports mode the RS greatly reduced… it's no global shutter, but unless you're really swinging it, you'll barely notice it. I don't know how well it works with a gimbal, but I'll let you know at the end of the month, when I buy one. Seems like it would work great.

I sold my FS700 and bought a KineMINI, and I'm very happy I did. The only thing I miss are the ND filters. Cineform in 4K would be nice, because the trascoding takes a while, but at least we have Cineform in 1080p, 2K, 3K, and S16mm crop mode. Hopefully they update the codec to 64bit, like Rob said. Maybe we can get some higher frame rates too in 4K. The controls are much easier to manage than the FS700. At first the wheel was a little weird, but now it's very easy to manage. For me, it works great as a run and gun type camera too… definitely more ergonomic than the FS700, especially with a V-mount battery on back. You can mount an audio recorder(plugged into KineMini) on one side(1/4 20 mounts on both sides) and a wireless receiver on the other with quick release plates, and it works great.

Yes, the video is nice, but as for the anamorphic film look, I don't really see it, especially in the wider angles, except for the flairs. I think the same video shot with an Iscorama would look a lot more like film. I wish they would have tried to copy the Iscorama. I actually like the 1.5x and orange flairs a lot better.
-
Other than the flairs the video looks very videoish... maybe it's the taking lens that's causing it to look so bad, but based on this video, I wouldn't buy this lens.

SLR Magic anamorphic prototype V3 - Part 2 - The footage
jeffpb7 replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
There's something missing, like it's too sharp. Maybe it's the 1.3x... I like the 1.5x and 2x a lot more. It doesn't have that organic look like the Iscorama. To me it looks like a cropped standard lens. The flares are to thin too. If they could copy the Iscorama but with a blue flare, I would definitely buy one... maybe 2. -
If anyone is thinking about buying this lens combo, make sure to ask the seller if there's oil on the aperture blades of the canon lens, and also ask if the Ekie is sharp. I bought these lenses from this guy last year and the aperture blades had oil all over them and the Ekie was totally soft. Maybe he fixed it, but I doubt it. I eventually got my money back from him but it took a while. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Complete-set-of-EKI-anamorphic-lens-ready-for-Filming-/130951333599?pt=Camera_Lenses&hash=item1e7d4ec6df

Is this grease any good? HELIMAX-XP

Hello, I'm about to modify my Iscorama(original) for close focus. I saw the instructions in another post, and it seems pretty straight forward, but I was wondering if anyone had pictures of this process, just in case? I was also wondering if anyone has any ideas for a new stop, so the front doesn't accidentally screw off? I guess I could use the follow focus gear to stop the rotating, but it would be nice to not have to rely on the gear, since I won't always have a follow focus attached. One more thing... the focus ring on my lens is a little stiff for the follow focus, so I'd like to re-lubricate it. Can I do this when I do the modification? Can someone give me instructions on the process, and what type of grease I should use? I'd like it to rotate very easily. Thanks a lot for your help!

Thanks, I'm glad you like it. I used a redstan clamp with the no-Iscorama taking lens, which works the best, because it has 49mm threads to attach to the Iscorama. I used a Tokina 0.4 diopter, and a cheap +1, +2. I'm using the original Iscorama. There's one on Ebay right now that looks pretty nice. It's already been modified for close focus too, and comes with a clamp. I still need to modify mine.

No, I'm not really interested in the Speedbooster for Super 35 censors. I'd probably get one if I had a Black Magic camera though.

You're right, some of the shots were not quite aligned... I didn't notice until I pointed the camera into the sun and got a flare. It's easy to align though, and usually I align it with a flare, before I shoot, but I was in a hurry and didn't think about it. The shots with the Zeiss lens are misaligned.

Those were flower peddles... I shook the tree to make them fall and then quickly panned the camera. I'm glad you liked it!

Here's a quick first test I did a few days ago with my Iscorama and FS700. I'm shooting a feature film with this combo in August, so any constructive criticism or advise would be great... I used a +0.4, +1, and +2 diopter. I also used the original 50mm lens and a Zeiss 50mm 1.4 ZF. both lenses were wide open. Any thoughts on the footage? Thanks! https://vimeo.com/62018110

I have a question about the flares at about 0:33 on your video... I noticed that in the right hand corner there is a straight, rainbow type, 45 degree angle flare. Do you see this to a greater degree when you shine a light directly in the lens? I'm wondering, because when I use any other taking lens on my Iscorama, other than the original, I get this straight 45 degree flare, if the light source is bright enough. If I'm using the original 50mm, I don't get this weird flare. I have some slight lens separation in my lens(but very little), so I thought this mite cause it, but I don't know. Anyone else have this issue?

The Iscorama 2003 doesn't seem like it comes apart... the Iscorama 36 for 5k looks good, but it's 5k. The Iscorama 36 that's selling for $2500 is a scam. It pops up every few weeks. Now it's $2500, but a few weeks ago it was 2k. I tried to buy it, but he sent me a phony wire transfer invoice from Ebay(I called Ebay and they don't support wire transfer), saying that he couldn't use PayPal because of his business... total BS.

The 135 looked great! For some reason I was expecting it to be softer, because it seems softer than some of my other lenses, but it was very sharp at 2.8 with the Iscorama attached. I also mounted the Iscorama on a Zeiss ZF 50mm 1.4, and it is also very sharp wide open. For some reason I can also focus closer with it, than with other lenses(about 5ft. without diopter), but I have to set the Zeiss lens to 10 meters instead of infinity.
