For Sale: Iscomorphot 8/1.5x aka "baby iscorama"

Lens sold too! :) -
John, this tip about the 16mm is AWESOME! Regarding the Hi Fi 2, when I had mine, the only lens that could entirely avoid vignetting on the 5D3 was 135mm and up. But, if you're going for 2.4:1, as John said, there isn't anything I can add for now. :P

For Sale: Iscomorphot 8/1.5x aka "baby iscorama"

Would you mind if I use this thread with the same purpose? I also have an iscomorphot, but since I don't have it's clamp, I'm willing to let it go for $650, including shipping. It comes in a Bauer box, which fits the lens perfectly, has the original hood as well, and front cap. :) Anybody interested? PM, or reply here, or mail me at ferradans@gmail.com -
Brilliant, man. Brilliant!

This thing got me very curious. But I'm not inclined to buying it yet. hahaha.

Maybe you could find an Iscomorphot 8/1.5x, at this price, which is kind of hard nowadays...

Managed a couple random shots today, while location scouting. 50D, Lexar 1000x card, using an old build (from July, I think). Original resolution was 1344x1058, while the lens was LOMO Foton-A, 2x stretch. The clips are below. Don't ask me about shutter, because it varied wildly according to the sun. ISO640, f/8. Slight color corrected in After Effects. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=is-6LlZ18SE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPGuR1UhyCE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZm5R410zy0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Sj1Wm0VNK0 http://youtu.be/p87MQK6-0m0 Youtube has now an option in resolution which says "Original", and that should play 2688x1058. :P (I'm not proud of these shots, I was just testing the lens and all, but might be good to take a look).

shooting with an oval aperture taking lens and an Iscorama36
Tito Ferradans replied to richg101's topic in Cameras
It seems like the Iscos are the hot subject of the week! hahaha Many threads featuring them recently. I like the bokeh, but I believe it would be more noticeable at night time... Also, i felt the clip to flat, almost as a "cinestyle thing", which didn't please much. The last shot though, is brilliant. It's a timelapse, right? The guy's movements are extremely awkward and this added to the cemetery surrounding makes him like a ghost AND a zombie at the same time. hahahaha. If it's not timelapse, then maybe you should be careful around this buddy! hehehehe -
Ben, if nothing feels in focus, then there's something wrong. Try other taking lenses. If it still feels bad, you should get it serviced. I can get tack sharp focus with any lens I've tried so far, even wide open. :) Oh, the camera I use is a 5D3, so it's not sharp because it's on a smaller sensor. hehehe
-
I had the same feeling using the Kowa B&H on 58mm at 5D3. The corners of the image would really warp. It was at the edge of vignetting. I'm watching it already, but didn't have any luck recently. :(
-
I too have a strong aversion to mismatched aspect ratios. This was an odd case. I'm almost cured. hahaha Oh, I thought the Iscos didn't produce mumps. Never had them in anything before... I was using a Minolta +0.4 acrobatic for these. by the way, if anybody finds a pair of Focars, please, give me a call. I'm in need of them! (for a decent price, of course)
-
I looked at them now and 1.33 stretch felt SO wrong...
-
HAHAHAHA! I shot it using an 85mm, on a 5D3. not wide, I'd say. You mean barrel distortion?
-
So, it's kind of weird, since I've had the lens for over a year now, but always felt the 1.5x stretched odd. Yesterday I took a couple shots with it, and when processing them, tried the 1.33x stretch. Everything looked more natural. Below are the pictures, in both stretches. Would you guys comment in which you think are correct? hahaha (the screens in one of the picures are 4:3, not widescreen) http://www.eoshd.com/comments/gallery/image/674-back2/ http://www.eoshd.com/comments/gallery/image/675-backlight/ http://www.eoshd.com/comments/gallery/image/676-fundo/ http://www.eoshd.com/comments/gallery/image/677-fundo2/ http://www.eoshd.com/comments/gallery/image/678-key2/ http://www.eoshd.com/comments/gallery/image/679-keylight/ I know about the round-thing test, and I'll do it today, this thread is just so I can get a second (and third, and fourth opinions)

I wouldn't trust lenses with a rotating front element. Not because they're easier to bend, but because it would be a painful, because any little movement could blast alignment. :(
-
It's a shame that this focusable Century is so hard to find! Using it with a Mir-1b (37mm) at f/2.8 I can get sharp focus at less than 1m away. It's a bit like double focus, but much faster and not necessarily so accurate. I got one of these, and decided to let go of my smaller centuries and Panny as well. :)
-
I felt the same way, but didn't have time to write such perfect comment.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kowa-Prominar-16S-Anamorphic-Lens-DSLRMicro-43FS700Black-MagicIscorama-/300955370704 the anamorphic market is totally out of proportion!
-
Hey enny, He means that, even if the taking lens is at f/2 (aperture), the image with the anamorphic is razor sharp. :)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/35MM-BABY-ISCORAMA-15X-ANAMORPHOT-ANAMORPHIC-LENS-35MM16MM8MM-BLACK-MAGIC-/281155305912 $3k OH, COME ON!
-
Anyway, the lenses don't need to be ATTACHED together. If they're just close enough, anamorphic magic should happen. :P

I can get the 2x stretch directly in the camera LCD, but it uses too much processing power and recording stops after just a few frames. My build is a bit older, I think August 04, or something like this. the Dual Iso build doesn't have the option for Anamorphic preview directly in the LCD. The HDMI stretch is done through Zacuto's menus, if I enable the stretch in-camera, and the connect the EVF, it just looks normal, un-stretched. I can get continuous recording at 1920x1152, but not 1280p. And HACKED mode works for me too. Am I just lucky?
-
I'm able to shoot 1920x1080 with the Zacuto EVF attached to the 5D3. Also using 1304x1008 (or something similar to that) on the 50D, with the same Zacuto EVF and 2x stretch, for LOMOs. :)

I won't argue about prices anymore. I set mine, and if someone disagrees, as you do, sorry for that, but unless it doesn't sell, I'm not putting it down yet. About the question asked by QuickHitRecord, I'd go with option [A] every time. Knowledge is meant to be shared, specially when there is so little around the web and even less out in the world. hahahah. If the prices go up, some people got lucky at the beggining of the hype, and some other will be happy with a good lens, even after paying a lot for it. A good lens is always a good lens, and the main way to determine it should be through shared knowledge. Why does everyone LOVES and WANTS Iscoramas? Because there's plenty of posts, videos and people praising its quality. It's not about the brand, like modern advertising, I think it's about performance. No one owns an Isco just for the status of it. :P
