It took Sony years and multiple releases of consumer and pro (fs7) cameras before they became more dominant over Canon in the budget filmmaking sector. Can't expect Fuji to do the same with just one release
-
When I used to shoot with the C100 II in CLOG, I had major problems with macroblocking. In my experience, Neat Video alone was enough to get rid of a lot of it. I don't really think bitdepth upsampling has anything to do with this.
-
14 stops without SLOG? Is that even possible?
-
Does it have focus peaking? Above my budget anyways

I'm impressed at how lifelike they look but not with the look itself. The image doesn't really speak to me the way a fuji's does. The G80 has a similar thing. Great, lifelike image (apart from when it sometimes decides to go radioactive) but not inspiring. This is all very subjective mumbojumbo though and i would not expect everyone to carry the same opinion. @jonpais Were they colour corrected or just a curve correction?
-
@jonpais Canon and Sony are announcing midrange mirrorless cameras this month. I'm waiting to see what they bring to the table.
-
@anonim @Matthew Hartman I don't know if you guys have ever shot with Fujis or not but for me, the Fuji's give the most accurate representation of the feeling of a scene through their colours and tonality. And there is no colour bias on skin tones, like Sony's have with yellow or Panasonics have with orange. This is why I often end up not editing images out of the Fujis. If I want to change the mood, then I go to colour grading. BTW, regarding that video about the religious indian men.... it seems to me that they are just crazy homeless people?
-
X-Pro2 is not really a good comparison because Fuji's profiles are quite contrasy and on the X-pro2 you can not change the shadow retention setting. I have no doubt that my G80 could pull up detail there on CineD, nevermind an XT2 or XH1.

Yes I was using it with the hack installed. And yes I was doing the trick before you even figured it out. Not sure how it took you so long to find out about it since you love it so much The images I shared were from raw stills btw. Yes I know the two cams aren't in the same ball park price wise but you kept saying it had similar colours, so I just had to point out that it really doesn't heh. The image is nice though. +1. The NX1 has many, many advantages. And the image looks great. Like I said, I would probably have kept it if it weren't for the weird iso 1600+ images and the steep decline in DR at those iso's. Low light takes up a lot of my work so I can't afford to use a camera that doesn't have the capability.

In the first shot she is quite pale, but it looks correct to me. The overall image looks balanced. Some other cameras, especially Panasonics, have a tendency to put a lot of warmth/orange into skin that shouldn't have any, and I bet it would do it to this.

I really can't understand yours and Kisaha's enthusiasm for this camera. Noise reduction is too aggressive from iso 1600 (seen in my vid). Digital sharpening is very prominent in 4k and 1080 (also seen in that vid). Colour is pretty good but not at all comparable to Canon. You showed that yourself in your NX1 vs 1DC video. Dynamic range takes a steep drop as the ISO goes up (see attached pics for iso 4000 jpg's from raw). Can't switch between EVF and LCD when filming. AF is also poor in mid-low light. (XT2) (NX1) Not to say the NX1 is a bad camera but I find it highly overrated by some people. It's very good value for money though if you can find one. For me the main killer is just how weird the image looks at ISO 1600 because of the aggressive noise reduction and sharpening.

Most of the videos so far don't really show off Fuji's IQ I must admit. I think it's because most of the footage put out is from that Eterna profile, which is a not a very interesting or impressive profile. However, having shot with many cameras under the $3000 range (from a Nikon d5200 to a Canon C100 II and many in between) I can attest to Fuji having the most pleasent image of them all. I mean just look at this. Shot with the XT2 with 35mm f1.4 and classic chrome
-
@jonpaiswhere did you hear that you can change the focus rings to linear?
-
I prefer the f1.4's over the WR versions. The 35mm in particular has a really nice characterful flare. Terrible focus ring though.
-
@jonpais you're right, the gh5 is ergonomically better in almost every aspect. But that is not to say that the XH1 is a wasted effort. It's still better than Sony who have had years to develop their interface. Fuji went a step beyond my expectations by allowing you to change exposure and other settings by touch. Though they would definitely benefit from a bigger, brighter screen with bigger text. On the subject of HLG though. The XH1 doesn't have it but it does have 400% DR in video, which if you've ever used it in stills you'll know pretty much pulls all 12-13 stops of dynamic range out of the sensor. Also, having used the Panasonic G80 for a while now, I can attest to why the tilt screen may be more favourable than the fully articulating one. Of course flip out screens are better for vloggers. But not ever camera has to appeal to every audience.

I didn't exactly know though. I bought the two cameras in order to test out if they were as bad as I thought. I think the Fuji fares a lot better there actually. 4k isn't that important to me. I just want good 1080. I'm still kind of on the fence actually. For casual video maybe the 80d will be ok for me. But I've definitely been spoilt by the different cameras I've had over the years.
-
So I didnt expect good things from Fuji's first attempt at IBIS, but this guy got good shots with 11 second and 5 second exposures https://keithwee.com/portfolio/heralding-the-next-step-of-evolution-the-fujifilm-x-h1-review-in-2000-words-and-a-ton-of-sample-images/
-
The intention of the above image was not to show off dynamic range/noise but detail
-
Hah, I'm not a noob. I wasn't really talking about noise in the above shot. Just noise in general in other bits that I filmed outside. However, even when exposed for the fence, I can still see a lot of dancing noise on it.
-
It was the kits lens - but does it matter? There shouldn't be noise in day light at low ISO's Of course there's great looking footage from the t3i, 5dii, etc out there. That's not the point. The point is that it just technically looks bad. Back when I had the C100 Mark II, I really wanted an EF mount B cam. It's a real shame that the DSLR cameras don't come close to it in sharpness. BTW on the topic of 77D vs 80D. I've returned them both now but during my brief use of them, the 77D was slightly cleaner in the shadows in video. But the on/off/movie mode switch was horrendous. That's a no-buy from me just because of that. The 80D's body felt better overall but the DPAF wasn't as good. In fact there was a moment where it lost track of my cat due to a bit of backlight and could not regain focus.
-
Matter of opinion of course but I think the XT2 is a worthy upgrade to your system When I did a side by side comparison of the two cameras I definitely knew which image I preferred. Plus the NX1 has that awful problem where you cant switch between EVF and back LCD after hitting record.
-
^This guy only looks at specs The a6300 4k suffers from insane rolling shutter and dimmed out LCD. While its 1080p is mushy and has all sorts of aliasing and moire. The XT2 and probably the XH1 has no such problems. Fuji lenses are not at all expensive compared to the competition.
-
Do you always buy the overpriced official batteries? Not sure if you've ever used Fuji cameras, but the expanded DR modes are usually part of the stills. The maximum (400%) I find to be excellent. I rarely go into lightroom because of it.
-
What I did with the XT2 was when I was doing stills, I'd just use Auto or one of the other presets on the dial. When I was doing video, I just whacked the dial to "T" which would stay on 1/50th. Or id change it to 100th on the rare occasion Id shoot 50p. The XH1 has the silent touch screen mode where you can set all the exposure settings on the screen. And also it seems you can set picture options separately between photo and video, and have different settings for each profile.

Ok I just read up and yes I've seen the cinema5d video (although at the time I didn't realise it was cinema5d). Yeah there are a few gripes here and there but overall the camera seems to do a lot of things really, really well. As someone who's used a lot of different cameras, I know what I like and don't like. And what features are important to me. And this camera basically ticks every box. Except I hope they one day make one that's smaller and lower cost.
