@AaronChicago Thanks for the downloads of the ungraded files. They're nice to work with and I'm having no problems using them with Premiere Pro on Windows - albeit with one curiosity. The colour shifts when I play the videos in the timeline! Again I must say the GH5 is comparing quite well. I do wonder if the light could have avoided being blown out if you'd underexposed a stop.
-
So I could no longer hold in my curiosity and have ended up ordering the nx1 + 16-50. The thing is that I know ergonomically it's going to hit every previous camera I've had out the park. I really just need to know now if I will like the image and how it will compare with my XT2 for more technical things like noise, DR, artefacts, etc. I'll probably post some comparisons up over the weekend.
-
Honestly I am surprised by the GH5 here. Looks almost as good as the Ursa. Can you post ungraded pictures?

800 nits is very good. The average computer monitor is only 300. The BM video assist 4k has poor viewability outside from what ive heard

They should put a touchscreen on it to make its DPAF more useful. Add 4k and also improve the screen and EVF and it'll be good.

@Taranis That photos looks blurry all round to me :/ Probably a faulty lens then? Sometimes I will get blurry shots with the 18-55 if AF-C is on though. Yeh I think the X-Trans benefits are a myth or marketing hype. Although I've never seen anything as bad as what you posted. Strange!

Thanks everyone for the comments. They have been very helpful I think it is likely I will stick to the XT2 for now, as although I would really love to have that 16-50 f2.0-2.8, I would then be sacrificing Fuji's primes. I think its possible in future I would have the Samsung in addition to the Fuji. One last question about the NX500. Does the 2.5k work in 60fps as well? The reason I am so interested in the 2.5k NX500 is that I really dislike the slow readout speed of most 4k cameras. But i also dislike the soft, moire and alias ridden 1080p modes. The fast readout and clean 2.5k of the nx500 could be the perfect solution.

I really shouldn't have made that post, I didn't want this to descend into a camera suggestion thread But anyway no the 1dx is too big for my use atm (which is just casual stuff). I had the c100 when I was doing paid work. @ricardo_sousa11 Is it ok for stills single-AF? I imagine I wouldn't use the 30mm much for video anyway.
-
@mercer im not necessarily looking for the most cinematic cam. If i wanted that I would have gone for the ML 5D3 or bmpcc long ago
-
Can anyone here share their experiences with the 30mm?
-
I tried that once. Had a c100 ii for video and fuji xt10 for stills. I missed having a hybrid
-
My god.. so I just found out that the only fast semi-wide/standard prime Samsung has (the 30mm) is loud and slow at AF. Canon/Nikon/pentax = great bodies and lens selection, crap video Panasonic/olympus = great bodies, large lens selection, no phase detection, questionable colour and small sensor Sony = feature rich but quirky and has expensive lenses Samsung = great body, poor lens selection Fuji = great lens selection, great SOOC images, jumpy AF, lack of stabilsation in body or lenses Fuck meee. Maybe ill get the NX1 for my fast 16-50 needs and also get a GX80 for my fast semi wide prime needs

Thanks guys Two more Why has Gamma DR fallen out of favor? How usable is the DIS? Can it end up warping the image too easily? Does the image quality drop much?
-
@BTM_Pix Thanks, just had a little play around with that footage. I think you would benefit from exposing to 90 or 95 IRE rather than 100. I am not able to retrieve much colour information in the brightest parts of the image. Also can you just clarify whether or not this post has the images ordered as FLOG then ProNeg or FLOG then FLOG graded?
-
But why can't they put in an option to change that curve?
-
They really knocked it out of the park with this camera didn't they. With a BSI 24mp sensor maybe SLOG won't be neccessary...? Can anyone school me here? Maybe highlights can be brought down somehow? I don't understand why cameras need a LOG function with boosted ISO when the full dynamic range is available at iso 100 for stills?
-
I'm kinda thinking about getting one or both of these cameras (largely because of the 16-50mm f2-2.8 lens, affordability and ergonomics). I'm just wondering a few things.. Is the exposure drifting problem present in all or only some of the units? Can it be fixed? Is the autofocus performance the same between the NX1 and NX500? What would you say is the highest ISO you can film at? Is the NX1 4k readout speed improved with the hack? Does the NX500 have Gamma DR? Any other quirks I should know about? How are the preamps on the NX1? Any ideas why the 2.5k hack can't be ported to the NX1? Is the EVF comparable to cameras like the A7Sii and X-T2?
-
It is sort of ironic that FLOG is only available via HDMI. Someone just shooting casually has more use of it than a professional filmmaker who can control lighting.
-
Aint this the truth. If you have a camera that already outputs pleasing natural colour, and if that's what you want, then there's really no need to capture in LOG unless you absolutely need the extra detail in the shadows/highlights. One thing the XT2 has made me do (because it doesn't iDynamic, DRO or similar options that raise the shadows loads) is it's made me think about using shadows much more effectively or creatively.

Thanks @BTM_Pix!

That's really impressive... my i7 6700k @ 4ghz only gets 979 points
