Why does RAW DNG change depending on what software you use?
Inazuma replied to Turboguard's topic in Cameras
Doesn't Davinci have a noise reduction control for raw files though? Raw is literally raw data. It's really up to each individual program to determine how it should look. Like when I open my Panasonic stills in DXO Optics or Phase One Capture One, they look far better than they do in Lightroom. -
Has anyone messed around with the whitebalance tint? I seem to be getting some more pleasing results by dialling it in to 4 points below centre.

I got mine on Tuesday Here are some test shots Tests of: 1) 1080p to 4k crop 2) Face tracking AF, colour science, colour correction & grade 3) 4k and 1080p rolling shutter 4) Handheld @ 32mm, iDynamic, colour science, colour correction & grade 5) Flare test with difference lenses (NOTE: 5-axis stabilisation is enabled on all shots) See video description for download link. BTW did you know that you can now set Auto ISO in manual stills mode?

@mercer That's from Peak Design https://www.peakdesign.com/product/straps/ I used one for a few weeks and then found this, which I much prefer http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131663199767

Stoked! Ordering as soon as the kit becomes available in the UK. Im going to use it as a walk-around/family/friends camera. Keeping the kit lens for the wide angle and probably gonna acquire the 20mm f1.7. I've been using the 17mm f1.8 for far too long Two pancake lenses means i can always keep one in a jean pocket. Thank god for micro four thirds!

You U.S. guys have it pretty good :p It's £1000 here for the body. That's about $1444. Almost $500 difference!

Does the a6300 have the waxy skin problem from the a6000 and some other sony cameras? Whereby if face detect is on, it will soften the subject's skin?

Audio solutions (experiences)- Run n Gun, one man band - gx80
Inazuma replied to tomastancredi's topic in Cameras
For run n gun interviews I use a Rode NTG4, which at £200 is fairly good value and gives great directional sound, which is what you will need! Do not get a zoom h1 for interviews. I have tried it before and it was awful. BTW the GX80 doesn't have a mic input. I hope you know that. -
I really liked it The big thing that stood out to me though was the mixing of different cameras. I'm not sure if it was the GoPro or the RX100, but you could clearly see the drop in quality when it was used.

Try updating the firmware

Alright, relax.. jeez.

Could you not have googled this yourself? :/

The sony cameras with SLOG have more dynamic range. They're highly unpopular on this forum though :p

What? No sample images?

He often shoots tests in the music shop, the hotel (or whatever it is) and brighton beach. They always, always look bad regardless of the camera But the IBIS is shown to be very effective here! I was worried that we might get big crop or some weird resolution to the image (like Olympus cams) but no, it just looks like your usual Panasonic footage!

Lol you guys talk about thickness of the image like wine conocers talk about their drink. Please stop. You cant possibly make judgements lile this from a compressed web video. You need the raw footage in your hands and know about how it was lit, shot etc. Most people who use cameras like the gh4 arent setting up huge diffusers to soften 1k watt lights or even the sun. Thats really where the difference lays when you see footage from a 10k camera and from a 1k camera

Thanks, I was hoping for more feedback like this actually. Can you explain further what you mean about the contrast? I haven't actually used the lx100 that much but the process for getting the nicest image is the same as with any other Panasonic camera really. I usually dial the standard profile down and put the highlight curve to -5.
-
So it looks like I might be moving to 4k soon. I have used the LX100 a bit and there's definitely something to be said for 4k. It's like looking at real life. It's a surreal feeling actually. But anyway, in certain situations I do think a softer image is more appropriate. I find that when shooting 1080p as opposed to 4k with the same camera you lose a little bit of the noise performance, colour pot and dynamic range. So what do you guys do soften the image? What filters? Post production methods? BTW I also wanted to mention that I have developed some LUTs for the LX100. The camera has a different colour science to other Panasonic cameras and so must be treated differently. My LUTs create a more neutral look for footage from the camera, which can be used alone or with other stylistic looks (which usually make the footage look nuclear if used alone). I will be releasing it at a later time.

I wouldn't say there's one overall winner here. Some scenes look better with one camera than the other. Like for example the one between 1:00 and 1:10, the Nikon has the same colour qualities that the FS7 did in the first scene, and vice versa. And in the final shot the D500 looks like a broadcast camera in comparison to the more filmic tonality and colours of the FS7.

I've never used FCPX but I do prefer editing in Resolve than Premiere (which is odd since Adobe has had so many years to develop it). The effects API is OpenFX, which is also used by Nuke - so there's potentially a lot of plugins. I use Neat Video, FilmConvert and some Red Giant stuff with it.
-
@mercer It only affects the image if you change it. Please note I am just talking about compressed footage. RAW footage has always had a separate module in Resolve that lets you control temperature, exposure, etc.
-
For those of you that missed it (including me), 12.5 beta is out. It includes a lot of new features and fixes for both editing and grading. One of them is that there is now a colour temperature slider, which if you're used to grading with Adobe, is a really nice feature. https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/uk/products/davinciresolve
