  1. In a few weeks/months, Blackmagic is releasing its Video Assist which is a 5" £350 monitor/recorder. I assume it'll be quite similar to whats on the Ursa, and so should be usable in bright light. Another option is the 5" SmallHD Sidefinder Viewfinder (field monitor with flip-out viewfinder) for £260. Bluefonia's solution is currently the most efficient
  2. The Aputure VS-2 is no good in the sun either? I was thinking of buying it
  3. Really great writeup, thanks Where can I see this movie?
  4. Hey dude, try applying the LUT I made a few weeks ago: http://sebcastilho.com/2015/04/19/pleasing-neutralising-panasonic-luts/
  5. I asked in the YouTube comments whether or not they plan to make a speed booster version and they said yes

If producing for 1080p you can 'zoom' or cut in and out of the 4k image

Mmmh I do love straight lines! Also the 2.36 mil dot Organic EL EVF could be similar to what's used in the Fuji x30, which has a highly praised viewfinder!
  8. Thanks for the info And have you tried the Canon T6s at all? How does the image compare to the Nikon?
  9. Oh I see And what about it has better images & better video & better ergonomics?
  10. Just be aware that according to the following articles, the d5500 is slightly softer and less capable in low light than the d5300. http://cameras.reviewed.com/content/nikon-d5300-digital-camera-review/the-science http://cameras.reviewed.com/content/nikon-d5500-digital-camera-review/the-science
  11. Only a few FF cameras are actually better in low light than those with smaller sensors though
  12. The bokeh of FF can be a bit overkill though tbh. Like even in Game of Thrones which uses Super 35 I find a bit annoying that they have all these amazing sets but then everything gets blurred out when someone speaks and theres a head shot
  13. This is all well and good but making films actually requires me to exert effort when I could just be sitting here window shopping for gear
  14. So now youre faffing about getting the right mode before changing the settings? I'm all for this feature to be implemented (just so its there) but your reasoning makes no sense.
  15. Then why shoot automatic at all if you are afraid of those dangers?! It's not like you can change those values in auto
  16. I think they are just having trouble keeping the website running because they dont show ads. That doesn't mean they're trying to become something else. They're just trying to make money where they can in order to stay alive. In fact I like the fact that you can rent or buy videos there. It lets short film makers make some money.
  17. Again, all I was asking is specifically what the DR was like without SLOG. I wasn't asking whether or not SLOG should be used
  18. I was asking about DR WITHOUT slog, because jase said he wasnt using it Cheers
  19. Looks great! Do you think there's still a dynamic rang advantage (compared to say, the GX7) without slog?
  20. I think these looks definitely should be used selectively to achieve an emotion/feeling in a film rather than sprayed on willy nilly. I always thought Philip Bloom's grades looked really wishy washy and these LUTs are the reason. BTW Jase what camera and settings are you using there?
  21. Excellent 1080p cam for around £400 = Panasonic GX7 or Nikon D5300 Grab that plus a prime lens
  22. That lx100 is really something. How does its 1080p image compare for DR and noise against the 4k?
  23. I think the A7S slog is more prone to green tints on skin regardless of light bouncing off of grass. Not sure why that is. If someone were to spend time taking side-by-side videos with an A7s and Canon, you might eventually be able to create a LUT that corrects the colour problems. I think the GH4 v-log video is also suffering from a similar problem. Zak's explanation about the lights is nice but it doesn't explain why the front of Chris's face has a blotchy greeness to it despite the daylight balanced frontal light. Still I think it's too early to make judgements and we should wait for more footage.
  24. No matter how smooth you record your video, it will still look smoother on your TV due to the feature I mentioned earlier. It's not that your camera is at fault, it's that your TV is doing extra work. Also you should note that almost all films are shown at 24fps; nowhere near the 50fps your camera is recording.
  25. Your TV probably has that feature where it creates frames in between frames in the video in order to make things look smoother. So what you're seeing on your Mac is actually what it should look like.
