  1. Another test here. I really like the overall image of this camera; particularly the colours which have a less stylised rendition than the other brands.
  2. I dont get it. The exposure bar at the bottom of the display shows your current exposure if you're in manual mode. And in P/A/S mode it will allow you to change exposure compensation. Is there some other functionality missing that I'm not aware of?
  3. Settings > Custom > Dial Set > Exposure Comp On. What... That's the whole point of rigs
  4. I think you're being a bit overly critical Vesku. It does show exposure value, just not when changing ISO. But its not exactly rocket science to work out what your EV value will be as you change it. No DSLR-like camera except for the d750 and d810 can change aperture steplessly. I've never seen problems with the AE/AF lock. What are you talking about? Its got plenty of button options and saving options. More than most other DSLR-like cameras. Why are you using AF for video? OIS is worse than other brands, but still much better than handholding. Lens stabilisation is kind of overrated anyway. Rigging the camera against your chest or shoulder generally gives a more weighty, cinematic feel. Noise at ISO 200? Who cares really. Real film has noise at that ISO too.
  5. Another option you might want to consider Speed booster (maybe even the cheaper knock offs) Samyang/Rokinon VDSLR 24mm 35mm & 85mm T1.5 Each of those lenses costs about $500 and will come to T1 or about f0.9 with the speed booster. So you have a set of three super fast lenses with cinema housings for less than $2000. I'm planning to buy that combination at some point
  6. For your pleasure I have uploaded the footage I took with the camera whilst I was in the camera store a couple weeks ago http://runwalrusrun.com/Nikon_d750_samples.zip Shot with the Nikon 50mm f1.4. Various exposure settings. All on the default Flat profile. You can tweak the flat profile to be even flatter actually but I left it at the default. Noise reduction was switched off for all tests. Whitebalance was set manually too.
  7. Nice tests. The rolling shutter at 1080 is very well controlled. Gizmodo did some tests on that too here, which is why I was skeptical when someone in another thread said it was really bad. How does the 1080 iq compare to other cameras though?

Really nice shots there. What body did you use and is that video or photo?
  9. These cameras are going for less than £2000 on eBay. I wonder what they'd be like compared to current -£2k cameras like the NX1
  10. So Ebrahim, you're saying that pushing the exposure up (to just before clipping) even if it means using much higher ISO's will yield better results?
  11. Detail levels seem to be about on-par with the Canon 7d II http://***URL removed***/previews/olympus-om-d-e-m5-ii/5 What's nice though is that the colours are pretty similar and it doesn't put a green/yellow bias on skin like the GH4 does (at least in that comparison gallery). I'm pretty stoked about this camera. I'm sorry for doubting it :p
  12. Even with high bitrates and new framerates, the quality as a whole needs to be improved. The EM1 is currently quite mushy and looks very digital if you have even a bit of sharpening turned on. Also quite bad highlight control and strange colours under indoor lighting when I tested it out in the camera shop. Saying all that, I still don't believe these rumors to be true. Seems strange that they would not only put the EM1 viewfinder in the new camera but also make it weathersealed. There wont be much to separate the two cameras :/
  13. I tried that out yesterday morning and again just now. The main thing it achieves for me is to reduce the splotchiness of the skin tones because the main issue I had with the colour is that some areas of the skin would be red and then others would be orange or some other off-colour. These settings even it out as compared to a flat or standard profile. A tip for people with older models than the GH4; you can use Colorista II to adjust the hue to -2 in order to imitate that hue setting on the GH4. Also on the GX7 you can adjust the whitebalance so the dot is 5 points below the centre, which will put more red into your skin tones.
  14. Super 35 is closest to APS-C, which has a 1.5x crop (or 1.6x for Canon). So to get a 50mm full frame focal length, you must use about a 35mm lens on the s35 or APS-C camera. The reason super 35 is called that (rather than super 25 or something related to its actual dimensions) is because it uses the same film stock as 35mm SLR's but the image is only captured on a portion of it. This is as opposed to something like 16mm film where the actual film stock is smaller. And Super 16mm uses a wider portion of that film stock (to give a wider aspect ratio) which would otherwise have been reserved for the soundtrack.
  15. Has anyone had a chance to check out the video quality with the new firmware?
  16. Yeh nice work One of the more creative heavy metal music videos Ive seen. What lenses did you use? Also can you tell me anything about how you create the transitions?

Can anyone recommend me a Nikon mount lens that is 24mm or less and f2 or faster?
  18. As I understand it - Hollywood wants to pay as little money as possible for the work (which is a fair enough business decision). So they go around the VFX houses gathering price quotes. The houses all want the work and so become extremely price competitive. Some houses can be more price competitive than others because of tax breaks in their country or region. The house that gets the job makes barely enough to break even. And if they cant find another project to start immediately afterwards, they have to start letting people go because they can't survive otherwise. The VFX artists are skilled and intelligent. Unfortunately the people doing the business are either greedy or incompetent. Oh another thing worthy of mentioning is that a lot of these artists end up working long hours overtime for free. And often don't get paid enough in the first place. I think that's not helping either really. If all the artists banded together and said no to unpaid overtime, I think it would force the studios to price the work more effectively.
  19. Wouldnt sell your EM1 just yet... remember the whole widely reported firmware thing last year that turned out to be a hoax. The source is the same website
  20. That's outrageous! I can't believe these studios which supposedly have a nice image are just teabagging their staff like that. It's rediculous. Something must be done
  21. Yep it's really a terrible industry to be in right now, and I'm in it. Luckily I've yet to be laid off but I have countless friends who've had multiple jobs in the time I've been at one place. Problem is movie studios treat VFX houses like dog shit. They ask for bucket loads of work for not much money. And for some reason the VFX houses just keep kneeling down to them when they should be getting together and setting fair prices. BTW Rhythm & Hues filed almost two years ago - almost immediately after finishing the box office hit Life Of Pi. It's fucking ridiculous.
  22. Do you mean just in terms of detail? Because I can see a huge difference in colour. So which image is which? Im guessing the one of the left in the first image is the A7S
  23. The a6000 EVF is pretty good (better than my GX7 but nowhere near the Fuji XT1). Main problem is that it gets noisy in low light (noticeable in indoor light, and then unusable in anything less)
  24. Can someone explain how the OVF could be darker without the battery? That makes no sense to me!
