  1. I cant speak for the GH4 but I have a GX7 which apparently uses the same sensor and I can tell you it's definitely a step up from the GH3. The GH3 is noisier and has purple colouring in the shadows at high ISO's (1600+), which is typical of its Sony sensor. And yes as someone else mentioned above, the GH3's LCD and EVF are too low res.
  2. Did you write and perform the narration yourself? If so, can you tell us anything about your inspiration for it and how you write? And yes, very nice shots and grade! Well done
  3. Brilliant Mr. Farges Some of your most creative work I think!
  4. Aren't you the one that gave up on certain cameras because of the colour science?
  5. I have posted this before, but DXOMark's results for the GX7 and a6000 are not right. The a6000 is supposedly a bit better than the GX7 in all areas but when I had the two cameras to test I found that the GX7 had more latitude (same highlight clipping but much better shadows). Eg. ISO 500, f2.8, 1/60th, pushed 3.5 stops on LR: Sony: GX7: Note the chroma noise and discolouration of the plant and plant pot in the a6000 image. And then ISO 3200, f3.5, 1/50th. Pushed 2.5 stops but the original raw image already shows some purple colouring in the shadows. Sony: GX7:
  6. Can one of you do a DR test to put that issue to rest? I mean some people are reporting bad DR, but then you look at Andrew's video and don't see any problems with that at all
  7. That's some incredible footage Andrew Is the Shogun the only recorder capable of recording 1080p at 60fps?
  8. Wow that's much closer than I would have thought
  9. Hey Max I had a quick go of grading your GH4 footage to what I believe is more to your liking. Does this work for you? a6000 original: gh4 original: gh4 graded:
  10. Cya Matt. I will keep in touch over Vimeo or something Max did you give my LUTs a go? The jaundice effect is not a myth but it's quite dependent on lighting and picture profile. However I really believe Canon cameras have just as much a tendency to give skin a yellow plastic look under artificial light BTW it's absolutely not a sensor problem. Raw photos look very natural. It's just the engine processing for photo and video.
  11. How bad is the rolling shutter in 1080? Much better than 4k? Also how much worse is the image in general? What would you compare it to? Canon rebel?
  12. Maxotics, the plasticky skin tones might be because it oversaturated them a bit. Try my skin corrector or colour balancer LUT. TurboGuard, you say the lx100 ruined the blacks. Did you have iDynamic set on anything other than None? How about the shadow curve?
  13. With my new job I hope to make one major camera purchase this year which will satiate my camera fetish for a good while. I also have a friend moving up here in a few months and we want to do a lot of narrative films.
  14. Its just down to personal experience. Ive found in the past that theres something more of an organic quality to stills taken with a higher megapixel count. Again, it's just personal experience and i'd probably have a hard time truly quantifying the difference. But the a7s isnt just a lower megapixel count camera, its a much lower megapixel count
  15. I'm currently eyeing up the NX1 over the A7s Internal 4k up to 30fps and 1080p up to 120fps.Better colour reproductionHigher megapixel count for stills (although probably doesn't matter much if you only publish to web)Better body and user interfaceDat 16-50mm f2-2.8 lens
  16. Beautiful image and cut as usual sir Only thing I will say is that it seems very jittery. Did you not use any kind of shoulder rig?
  17. ^Same BTW Matt the fb link in your signature doesn't work.
  18. You just need to upload the photo to another web host, like imgur. And then link to the photo here.
  19. I actually have one I've not mentioned before that JUST corrects the red shift issue https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1094036/Panasonic%20Orange%20to%20Red%202.cube
  20. Ah fair enough Maxotics :) I too owned a d5200 last year and the question of if it was noticeably better for stills than my GX7 has been on my mind for this whole time. I almost want to buy the camera again just to compare.
  21. Dont get me wrong, i have been saying that from the beginning. I'm just pointing out that out of camera the A7s colours are very off. Its not just slog either. If you look at dpreview's image comparison viewer and look at the JPGs, youll see the difference too.
  22. How can you say it's far superior if you don't own one?
  23. Sure, if you like your footage to look like an out of tune TV  It does look better than I expected though
  24. To be fair, it is true what they say about the A7s' colours. Look at the following two images from Cinema5d.com '> '> If you copy and paste the a7s screenshot into Photoshop and boost the saturation and contrast a bit, you'll see just how different it looks. I have to give props to Samsung; their colours actually are very good. Very even and pleasing.
  25. My GX7 shifts strong reds to oranges too. I have created a few LUTs that fix that and other colour issues if you're interested
