  1. Looks like they paid the kid in wine. His mouth is so black!
  2. John, you have no problem with your movies looking like soap operas?
  3. I really think skin tones is another of those things that DOPs fuss over but no one else notices really. I wasn't even aware of such an issue until the gh4 came out earlier this year and everyone started talking about the subject. I think Canon RAW gives really nice tones but as I said in an earlier post, the tones from h264 seem to have a plasticky look and makes it easy to point the footage out as being Canon, which is distracting. It's just a matter of taste I suppose. I mean I've seen several RED v canon videos and always prefer the tones from the red.
  4. But surely if you have a colourist of any skill (and you probably do have the budget for one if you're using Arri's and RED's) then you can grade the colours to whatever you like?
  5. Am I the only one that thinks the colours out of the A7s look fine/great? Every time I see a Canon video I can tell straight away because they have a stale coloured, mushy DSLR look with plasticky skin and grass that is too green. Am I mad?
  6. '> Check out that picture above. Notice the difference in colours (particularly the skin tones). I've also uploaded the same clip to Youtube and Vimeo. Youtube's colours are exactly like Premiere Pro's, while Vimeo is more like Windows Media Player's. Does anyone know why this happens and what can be done to get absolute consistency (especially with regards to Vimeo).
  7. The native m43 lenses are generally more contrasty than other lenses, including modern ones like the Sigma 18-35
  8. The way the competition worked- everyone submitted clips using their camera and then at the end 5 lucky people got given a Samsung nx1. It looks to me like there were more than 5 different locations there. So surely it wasn't all shot on the nx1?
  9. Where did you read that vintage glass dont get 5 axis?

The cheap mic has also picked up a fair bit of background noise (we were outdoors, next to a coffees shop). So fading the track in and out might be more distracting than not. I will give the eq frequency thing a try :)

Over the weekend I filmed a sketch with two actors. The recording was done with two lav mics; one a Rode and one a cheapo one. The actors were sat fairly close to eachother and the cheapo mic has picked up the other actor's voice a bit too much, causing reverb when I put the two tracks together (which are definitely in sync). How can I reduce the other actor's volume in the cheapo mic without much affecting the volume of the actor that it's supposed to be recording? I have Audacity and Adobe Audition.
  12. Yes but you cant make the Canon footage sharper. You'd have to make the A7s/GH4 footage softer.. in which case, why buy into another system at all? They are easier cameras to use for video at the time of recording, but will be time consuming trying to match the cameras in post for every video you make. So I guess the best thing is to just buy a 5D III or 7D II? The 7D II has 60fps recording btw.
  13. I don't know what camera to suggest to you but I will say I did a shoot a couple months ago; It was a 3 camera shoot with a GH3, Canon 6d and 550d. The colours were indeed quite different and I chose to grade the GH3 to look like the Canons (mainly because it was 2 against 1). It turns out that matching the colours between the cameras wasn't all that difficult. I am new to grading but with Adobe Speedgrade I managed it fairly easily. I don't think I'd recommend getting a GH4 or A7s unless you plan on getting two of them. The reason being that they're so much sharper than the 5D that it will make those clips look out of focus if you're intercutting.
  14. It's not that shocking. The Canon 70d and sony a6000 with their on-sensor phase detect pixels have similar performance. Before those cameras came out, the Panasonics had the best single-shot autofocus in the biz (apart from DSLRs (not including entry level ones)).

    Lenses

I noticed that those new Veydra lenses do (give a circular rainbow flare) as well :)

    GH4 12fps RAW video.

It's because you haven't posted anything controversial ;)
  17. That was incredible Noa, the video tags only mention a gh3 and 4

    GH4 12fps RAW video.

Nice, I like that a lot. Could be used to great effect in the right piece
  19. I see. Well those are fair comments about the quality difference between formats.
  20. Can anyone recommend me a budget solution to two or more lavs feeding into wireless senders in the speaker's pockets and being received and maybe recorded by one device? Or maybe the receiver feeds into the input of a recorder like the h1.
  21. You write that condescendingly but this and this (shot with a phase one) are both examples of shallow DOF. With the latter being more about background separation. If you disagree then there's surely some kind of conflict in our terminology..
  22. What's your point exactly? You said that it's not about the DOF but then you go on to explain how its all about the DOF :p
