  1. It's very well done except for the high contrast lighting, which always makes things look fake IMO. I find it much harder to focus on the film
  2. i would also suggest choosing particular spots in the venue where the light is more forgiving. For example if there is an area where a light usually shines, you could shoot that area from various angles, waiting for interesting subjects to move into that area. Street photographers use this kind of trick all the time.
  3. Selling for 184,560 yen on Amazon Japan, which equates to just under £1000. Which means it'll likely sell for £1200 here. Not too shabby :) Crossing fingers for good quality video. Also I wonder if Sigma/Tamron lenses for A mount adapted with the LA-EA will communicate the FL properly to the camera so the IBIS will work properly with them.
  4. If any of you haven't seen Interstellar in 70mm projected IMAX yet, I highly recommend it. It's just incredible. For me it was a movie that defines movies.
  5. Why not? Technology moves on. The size of the sensor isn't all that important to sensitivity.
  6. The door opening within the iris is a good idea, just not executed very well :p So yeah probably best to keep it static and think of a more impressive way to animate it later. I would also make it black and white or coloured rather than just grey. Logos are a hard thing to get right, I hate doing them.
  7. Thanks, nice writeup :) Looking forward to thoughts on the 16-50 f2-2.8 lens if you get it and also how the colour science compares directly to canikon :) also would be interesting to see some latitude tests of raw stills.
  8. Yep pretty much nailed it. I might suggest having two reels. One promoting your artsy personality and projects. The other promoting yourself as a videography business, satisfying that need to excite people to work with you.
  9. In general I feel it's all quite morbid. I can see it being hard for a potential client to sit through that and then get excited to work with you. From a cinematography standpoint, yes of course we all think it's great, beautiful work yada yada but if your target audience is bar mitzvah's, weddings, promotional stuff then I might try to cut the footage into something more along those positive lines ^_^
  10. Sorry to bring up a dead thread but didn't really want to make a new one. I had my GX7 fixed a couple weeks ago after the shutter just randomly locked up and wouldn't open again. Something to do with a circuity malfunction. It was out of warranty and cost me about £150 to fix. However it also fixed the dead pixels I had on the sensor :)

    Lenses

Do you mean general lens as in lens that can be used in a lot of situations for cinematography, or just a general lens thats good for use in everyday situations (travel, birthdays, etc)? As an 'everday' types lens I found the Sigma to be a bit too cumbersome because of its weight and because you have to turn three different rings about to get your desired picture. But if you're using it for cinematic purposes it is superb. Right now I'm thinking about getting an Oly 12-40mm f2.8 as a general walkaround lens. It doesn't have stabilisation, but it is superior to the 12-35mm in every other way, including that it has a focus ring with stops.
  12. I was wondering why some of those shots looked so muddy. Turns out they were done with a Canon rebel :)
  13. I think some people have "the grass is always greener" syndrome. I mean it does sound nice but it is a little impractical for indies/people without a crew.
  14. Really nice :) That closeup of the eye is insane. What camera/lens was used?

    A7s Grading

I don't know about Resolve, but in SpeedGrade I put a Secondary layer on and colourpick skin in the image and shift it to whichever direction of colour you want. Another way is to shoot the same scene with a Canon and the Sony A7s and then use the colour match tool. You will then be able to create a LUT from the changes which will be usable for all sorts of other shots.
  16. Yeh but he had all that stuff going on before it was cool :p
  17. A little comparison of the GH4 and Red Epic by Daniels Peters His videos for clothing labels and such were a large inspiration to me when I started out, so it's quite something to see him now use the two cameras' (with hugely different price tags) footage interchangeably.
  18. The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouths of fools pour out folly.
  19. As far as I can see there is no camera that is not compromised in one way or another. The lx100 is no different. Everyone picks their camera based on their needs. The canonikons have dedicated movie modes but no evf or native focus peaking. The Panasonic g6 and gh3 have mic inputs but their iq isn't as good as the gx7, gm1, lx100 etc. The blackmagics have superb iq but a small sensor and no 60fps. The REDs have superb iq and slomo but require multiple expensive attachments to work well. Etc.. My point is that if a camera doesn't suit your needs then move on. There's no point arguing about it in forums. I have seen way too much of that on dpreview . Personally I think the lack of touch tilt screen says to me that there will be a mark ii coming next year. So I'm holding off.
  20. Thanks for the info. I wont have the time to test it out again for a few days but can you tell me whether or not you think it'd ever be possible to record video directly to the computer? And if so could it be done at a higher bitrate than the native 24mbps of my gx7?
  21. I've used Mercalli for batch stabilisation. Don't leave it on automatic; tailor the settings to each clip. Also, according to the manual, the stabilisation works best if the clip starts and ends with the camera still (ie. not moving around)
  22. If you don't want to sacrifice image quality then you simply have to go for the d5300. But you have to put up with the usability issues (small optical viewfinder, poor control scheme, no custom modes and in daylight the screen is unusable unless you have a loupe)
  23. Hey, I did it the same way and it failed again, and when putting that URL into the address bar the connection timed out. So I tried another method. This time I select "Via Network" in the connection method and I point the camera to connect directly to my wifi hub. Now the camera has an IP of 192.168.1.5. I launch the program and it works!! All the functions (or the ones I tried) work. I can even start and stop video recording. The only problem is that I cant actually see the live view within the program. When I click "live view" an error pops up saying, "Runtime error 53. Can not find file." And then the program shuts down.
  24. Tried it with my GX7. In the camera I went to Wifi > Wifi Function > New Connection > Remote shooting and view. And then I connected via wifi on my computer. I then opened your program and it simply fails to find the camera, even after I manually inputted the camera's IP address (192.168.54.1) Any solutions?
