  1. I'm wondering, if you get a d5300 and attach a prores recorder to it, will the result be just as good as the bmpcc? BTW Matt, did you not check my d5300 vs GX7 video? I compared both cameras at iso 3200
  2. BTW I would not base your camera decision on whether or not it has a mic input. If you want good sound, you always want the mic to be as close to the actors or subjects as possible, and you cant do that if the mic is attached to your camera. A mic on camera is only good for if you're say at a comic convention and getting interviews of randomers.
  3. In terms of mFT and apsc your two best choices I think are the Panasonic gx7 and Nikon d5300. The Nikon has possibly better dynamic range and colours but the gx7 is sharper, handles a lot better and is also surprisingly better at high isos. The thing is you also have to consider lenses. One of the reasons I went from Nikon to Panasonic actually was because I wanted a 35mmm equivalent lens at a reasonable price. You might want to consider the soon to be released Panasonic lx100 which has a really nice lens fixed to it, all for just $899. I would not recommend the a6000. The iq is simply not as good as either of the other two.
  4. Isn't the whole argument against Blackmagic that it takes a good colourist to make the footage look good? I think it's horses for courses really. Blackmagic cameras aren't really suited for run and gun whereas the Panasonic are. They may not have as much dr as the Blackmagics but I've found they have enough to create really nice footage in most conditions. And in the end I think that content matters most, and so usability is key to me.
  5. I just downloaded the video and at ISO 3200 the image exhibits the same super blotchy noise in the shadows that I found with the d5300
  6. BTW lafilm, what lenses do they use for porn?
  7. You have a number of options to contact them yourself about the issue. http://www.panasonic.com/uk/contact-us.html This is definitely abnormal behaviour and I would demand a fix. It is probably a problem with your particular lens or the body or both.
  8. I don't get why you haven't raised the issue with Panasonic yet. Is your equipment stolen or something??
  9. @Andrew and anyone else who's used this camera: What is the focus ring like? About how long of a focus throw? Is it consistent or is it like the snap back on the Oly 17mm where if you move too fast, the focus changes suddenly with no graduation?
  10. This guy is doing the best work I've seen with the GH4 so far. And he's only using the 12-35mm f2.8 lens!
  11. Cool :) how did you get it for such a low price? Also I'd like to know how it performs when there are bright lights in a dark scene, eg
  12. Nice :) Very natural looking footage. Curious - why did you decide to get a BMPCC when you already have two other bodies?
  13. From an email exchange I had with Leica UK. Will the colours and tonality differ from the Panasonic lx100 (in raw and video)? I haven’t tried the Panasonic version myself but I would imagine you won’t see much difference in colour or tonality between the Leica and Panasonic as long as you are shooting in Raw, the softwares are different so that will affect the colours when shooting in jpg. If a firmware is released for the aforementioned camera, will the D Lux also receive the same update in a timely manner? In regards to the firmware update, I cannot be 100% sure but I would imagine we would release our own versions in a timely manner.
  14. They said it all. It's not about whether 4k is too detailed or cameras have too little DR. It's about lighting. 25 years ago they had to have tons of equipment to shoot a scene at night. Now cameras are powerful enough to shoot with minimal other stuff. You have to remember that these guys are professionals. Their frame of reference is different. They were using high end cameras anyway, not soft Canon/Nikon/Sony DSLR video. 4K is another step up from those high end cameras. It's detail that they see as unnecessary. Also I think it really depends on what you're shooting. I think 4k consumer cameras give us the flexibility. If you're shooting 50 year old actresses then yeah sure, by all means use a diffusion filter. If you're shooting landscapes, you might prefer to have a tack sharp image. And besides the Sony a7s and Canon RAW, the hybrid cameras with the most dynamic range for video are the Panasonics (GX7 and above). And they just happen to also be the ones that resolve most detail. I also find the image pops more because of this detail.
  15. Can anyone with a gh4 tell me how this camera may perform shooting people subjects at f2.8 under street lighting? I would really like this camera but to do that I'd have to sell my sigma 18-35mm
  16. There was a video explaining this somewhere. Basically it's like a rapid burst still mode that's limited to X seconds. The pictures are taken at the selected aspect ratio. When the burst is done, it plays back like a video but you can choose which frames to keep. The main advantage of this vs taking an actual video is that all the EXIF data is recorded in the image.
  17. Well that was a big dissapointment. None of the staff had heard of anything to do with the lx100 being previewed at their store.

4k sample of the 42.5mm here :) Looks like an enticing lens. I was only just recently looking into something of this focal length. On another note, does anyone have any advice on cleaning rubber zoom/focus barrels? I want to clean my Sigma 18-35mm up. That rubber has picked up a fair amount of dust and stuff.
  19. Well I'm going to Jessops tomorrow to try this thing out against my GX7 with Oly 17mm f1.8 Anyone have any particular requests?
  20. What are your favourite films/shows? What inspires or brings out the most emotion in you, whether laughter or upsetting? As with learning to play an instrument or learning a martial art, I believe you should start by mimicking what others have done that you think look great. I'm not saying make a carbon copy, but do something similar. Eventually you will grow to have your own style. I would not think too much more about what equipment you need as it hinders your creative potential. But I will say that you will probably need an ND filter in order to shoot at the correct shutter speed. You should also know that the led light will generally be better used placed off-camera.
  21. Anyone have examples of the real work benefits of doing this?
  22. http://news.panasonic.co.uk/news/panasonic-reveals-preview-and-pre-order-campaign-for-the-newly-announced-dmc-lx100-camera-92870 Panasonic will be touring the UK with the new camera. They will be in Manchester (and many other places) this weekend. Hopefully allow us to put a memory card in and take a few shots. @someguy Have you never owned a Panasonic before? At the bare minimum there will be controls for flattening the image a lot. Not sure if they will be offering the same level of control as is on the gh4 though. Ie. Cine-like and master pedastal
  23. My only thought was that it was too long. Thanks for the info!
  24. Really well done dude :) you have earned yourself another subscriber. Are your other videos done with the same camera BTW?
