  1. Pros are working with this camera. Why would a pro without a blog or YouTube channel waste their time producing content, that will not earn them as much as they could working, post samples? And yet at the same time, very few pros are working with this camera. Why would you buy when you can rent or have local support. What the fuck do you do if this camera breaks during a show and you have to send it back to just a mere handful of global repair centers. This is a sensor in a box time cinema camera. What's there to look for at someone else's footage? In mixed and low light it'll preform as bad as a DSLR and anything well graded and lit will be lambasted for being achievable with any other camera.
  2. According to the spec sheet (under shutter / sequential shotting): Max Recordable Pictures in Sequential Shooting TBD
  3. Here's hoping something (raw video, 10-bit encoding) trickles down into the GH5.
  4. The Pocket was announced April 2013, the Micro was announced April 2015. Wild speculation: we're roughly 6 months away from the next April (2017) reveal. If you were Blackmagic, what would you add, keep or remove to the Pocket / Micro?
  5. Why do you shoot video: are you doing it for the money or are you seeking to fulfill a creative need? Or maybe you're lucky and your art pays the bills? Personally I've done it for the money and lately I feel completely unsatisfied. But I'm interested in knowing why -you- choose to pickup the camera and shoot.
  6. Damn Sony and Samsung! Why can't they remove the headphone jack from their water resistant flagships too? Would be way easier for Apple to fuck its customers base.

    Canon XC15

I really hope Canon adds weather sealing and goes with an interchangeable EF-M mount. They could release the 24-240mm as a "L" EF-M lens. Can you imagine how beastly that would be? 10-bit with an external recorder and your choice of EF lenses. It would make for the ultimate mini C-100/camcorder. Oh wait no. That all makes too much sense. Canon fucked their hybrid 5D4. No way they want to make any worthwhile improvements to the XC or EOS-M line.
  8. Okay I'm totally in love with my second shooter system. I went almost all out: slider, zoom + focus, pan and tilt. Posting this to see how happy I'm with it in 6 months. Negatives so far: cost and the lens motor rail mounts were total shit so I machined my own.

    Edelkrone Wing

Way too expensive for a fully manual "slider". I'd also be weary of Edelkrone. I've owned the SliderPlus, Pro, Action and Wizard. Their products are often flawed, especially when it comes to the tolerance of moving parts (which is critical).
  10. Hell no. Fuck guestpost circlejerks. Andrew's content is refreshingly free of SEO money grubbing clickbait garbage. Use the forum if you want to post on EOSHD.
  11. Upgraded tonight. Anyone else getting weird low res, alias artificats in the color tab when viewing your footage? Oddly, when viewing in edit mode, with whatever grade applied, it's crisp and high res. Haven't tried rendering yet, but guessing it'll come out find. It's like there's a half-res or low quality preview flag set to true, but I can't find a toggle. Will read the manual tomorrow and then ask the blackmagic forum if unable to solve.
  12. I need something more than a curved slider, looking to entirely replace myself or another as the camera operator. FYI: to anyone that's interested, Kessler has a 15% off everything sale this weekend. I've placed a full order. (And also lamenting to them in an email over my prior, 3-days too early for the sale, purchase. Pwease give me credit. lol)
  13. Redrock Micro One Man Crew.
  14. Obviously you're interested in zooms, but if you want really fast glass with stabilization, Tamron also produces the SP line: 35mm, 45mm & 85mm at f1.8 with their version of IS (VC). Not a lot of use or reviews by cinematographers but they're the fastest full frame lenses in EF mount with image stabilization.
  15. Haha, don't worry! Your original post was great. During my research I did come across the iFootage solutions. This thread might help others looking for an economical and simple moco system. That said, the reason I didn't go with the iFootage, aside from the lack of keyframes and PC control, is resale value. What I've come to realize is that, paying for a more expensive product from a brand name company, allows you to resell it later for much less money lost and hassle.
  16. Edit: Thanks for pointing this system out. Totally forgot they existed. Dynamic Perception is awesome for photographers, but the stepper motor ratings are too low, 1A isn't enough to drive beefy NEMA 17 and 23 steppers, which makes it not so awesome for video. I am crazy jealous of the Graphik software. Way more keyframes than what's available for kOS.
  17. Anyone versed in motion control products? I've been using an Edelkrone system (Target. SliderPlus and Action) but want something infinitely more programmable. I've considered building my own rig, but Kessler has a 5-axis system for roughly USD$4000. It doesn't have roll, which totally kills me, but it beats having to code my own interface. I'd be really happy to hear from anyone that's used the Second Shooter system. Did you rent it or buy it? What type of shooting did you use it for? How well did it work? Anyway, I've decided to partially pull the trigger and am buying a brain and two lens motors. Will update this thread with my verdict.
  18. What you're experience is called moire. The detail is too fine for the sensor to resolve so when the image is debayered you get a rainbow effect. You'd need to install an OLPF to reduce the problem.
  19. Thanks a lot for the advice guys. Didn't realize that stills sensors haven't really improved in leaps and bounds over the last 6 years. And yeah, I'm shooting small items in controlled light, I can maximize DN at ISO 100-200 and minimize noise. Anyhow, if anyone is interested, I ended up being given a D7000 for free. I kept asking colleagues I know for advice and happened on someone with a bunch of bodies. I was going to go with a D5200 as it's available brand new in Canada for less than $500. Pretty sweet deal without having to worry about shutter longevity from a used buy.
  20. Thanks guys, went with the SLR Magic. Still not in my hands and the shoot is over, d'oh, but I'm excited. Also if anyone is interested I went with a Tiffen Circular Polarizer as I already own a few in several sizes and every other brandname was double or triple the price!
  21. I've been hired to do product photos. I'm video only but the client is important and it was hard to say no. Fortunately the shots are for the web so a high resolution camera isn't needed. I would like to get something that I can control remotely with my phone (Android only, I don't have iOS devices.) That's pretty much my only requirement as I'm a one man shop. Glass I own: Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 (Nikon) Sigma 50-100mm f1.8 (Nikon) Panasonic 12-35mm f2.8 (m43) Also not too sure if it's important but I currently shoot video on: BMCC (m43) BMMCC BMPCC I have zero idea what to look for in a good stills camera. Right now I'm considering going with a GX85 as it's under CAD$1000. I understand Nikon makes some fantastic bodies but I don't know where to start looking. Help me out?
