Wow. The bokeh looked frosty in the forest sequences 0:32-0:42. Which lens was that? Last sequence 1:31 on was fantastic. Like a moving baroque oil painting. That's an awesome location. Congrats on a fantastic piece, especially on the grading.

Looks like just over a minute of recording time is possible. I imagine using a fast card or reducing the resolution (at the expense of moire and aliasing) could net continuous shooting The only real catch is that the workflow is a little involved. I updated the first post with a link to the relevant ML forum topic.

Who? ;) From what I've seen this is a great camera. But cost and codec are totally unappealing to me. Thank you for sharing the link.

Yup. Youtube re-encodes your uploads. Their h.264 settings will bin motion, grain and tonality. Vimeo is really your only alternative if you care about quality.

That's odd. The posted video seems to refute your claim. Care to post proof?

Clickbait title! Mwuahaha. Obviously the BMCC does not best the Alexa but it's amazing how well it competes. Factor in the cost and it is outstanding. Testing compliments of Chaz Olivier, check out his blog post on these two cameras.

Haha, I think what I posted was poorly worded. What I meant to say: zooms allow sloppier set dressing and faster shot composition. You can get away with carrying less lenses and sometimes their rapid adaptability can help you capitalize on a moment you would've missed otherwise.
-
Assuming you're rendering to 1080P. You have the ability to reframe and fake things like pans and zooms. But the most important benefit has to do with the image sensor. A Bayer sensor only captures around 1/3 of the detail available. A debayering algorithm is used to interpolate the lost pixels, which causes moire and artificially increases the lost resolution. So you need a 18+ megapixel sensor to output actual 1080 resolution. Simply put: camera sensors usually only capture 1/3 the resolution. So 4K is closer to 1080, but still isn't actually 1080. Simplified even more: sharper detail.

I'll vote fast zooms. Sure zooms are slower, but framing is hard with primes if you lack experience. ;) I own this set in Nikon mount: Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 Nikon 28-70mm f2.8 Nikon 80-200mm f2.8 Can be had for under 3500 and will remain useful long after your NX1 bites the dust..

It's a fantastic camera. But A7S colors are... unpleasant. Tends to have green, cyan and yellow casts. Makes skin tones appear cold and unnatural. They're also challenging to grade because you can't do it in a single node.

Thanks for the link Andy.

Aha. Thank you very much. I wasn't aware.

Thanks for the stills Andrew. Fuck me, the video from this camera is amazing. Ah, how I wish they'd enable 4:2:2 out or throw their weight into prosumer market. Samsung could be the 800-lb gorilla.

Red areas have no detail. Must be the vimeo compression. Don't have time to download the file to verify.

An important question to ask is: do I want to change lenses? (Sorry for the double post. :} ) -
Panasonic FZ1000 review - the bargain 4K super-zoom

Andrew, how does this camera compare to the EM1, stabilization and dynamic range-wise? -
Probably not the answer you're looking for but the source material can be "fixed". If the images look bad on Chrome (wtf is Google doing to bit depth?) try IE or Safari or whatever.

I'm surprised this hasn't been more heavily mentioned. I've been using Color Match since the beta and it has already saved me days of my life this year doing menial corrections. I'd love for BM to add more editing features, so I can just stay in Resolve, but I'd much rather avoid bloat. And it's free! (If you don't need NR.)

Samsung U28D590 review - Ultra HD 4K 28" monitor for $599

That's pretty expensive for a glossy TN panel. -
That website is complete bullshit. Every other link is affiliate stuffed. And if you buy anything within the cookie lifespan, they get a cut of the sale. More visits = more clicks = more money. Look how many websites are part of the network. They have every manufacturer covered. They post EVERYTHING to increase the amount of visitors.
