Moot point considering Resolve has been optimized for OpenCL since late 2013 and the OP is using an AMD card.

Great, hope it helps. Yeah, unfortunately Resolve will not run on integrated graphics. jb, if you're still shopping around for a graphic card, consider one with the most video ram. DaVinci thrives on lots and lots of vRAM. My 290x only has 4GB. There are a few sub $600 cards with 6GB, mostly GTX 780s. But before you plunk down any cash, try and play with resolve if you can. It's not the best editor. I haven't used Vegas in years and years, but my opinion is that FCP and Premier are far superior at editing together footage. Davinci is amazing at grading. It can also be used for very light compositing too.

You don't have to. I've used a few systems that could handle h.264. Mine however, and most other machines I've worked from, typically suffer from laggy h.264 playback. If you're using a Windows based machine, try DNxHD. It's available as an export option in Resolve under Video Format > QuickTime. Then under Codec choose any of the DNxHD profiles. Not to be obnoxious. But the Blackmagic subforum for Davinci Resolve could net you more accurate answers. :) (Though sometimes you get none.)

Are you working with h.264 files? If so, re-encode them to ProRes or DNxHD.

5D3 raw image quality is awesome.

Masks are tricky (but produce the best results). I second Aaron's suggestion of using qualifiers. edit: the qualifiers for the shadows+highlights is very subtle, I suggest looking at the image in tabs original contrast - '> shadows+highlights preserved - '>

I don't think an iMac is worth it. Can you replace the RAM? Apple will do it. (Assuming you buy now before the refresh. The 2014 model has its RAM soldered on.) Can you add more HDD space? Not internally without voiding the warranty. Can you add in a GPU? Nope. Can you upgrade to a higher resolution monitor when prices fall bellow 300? You can plug one in. To it's strength, Final Cut Pro is only $300. That is definitely a huge advantage for the Mac. But you don't need to own an iMac to reap that benefit.

Wowsers. That's a killer price. I also vote for people to buy. The pocket is already worth 20x times what I originally paid for it. And it's only been 7 months. ;) I've use it for high end real estate videos. Shooting RAW on an edelkrone motorized slider/head I can pull off layered sequences. I kinda feel bad about the photogs I bumped for work, but hey, I'm able to do what they do, only with thousands of frames. I'm sure someday too I will become a fossil.

Hah, that was super trippy. Very effective trick. Did you try reclaiming some color from those harsh orange lights? I can see the footage was graded but I know trying to get anything from under high pressure sodium can be a pain. Also, could you shoot continuous at 48fps? If I remember correctly, 45 fps at 1080 is the max sustained writing speed from the CF port. Anyway, thanks for sharing. Inspiring stuff. :)

Does it output via HDMI? I never tried with my eos-m. If it does, the less than real time playback isn't such a big deal.

Fairly certain this is possible on the 5D3. (I've used ML/TL on an EOS-M.) It works via a plugin that you have to enable. It gives you a rough file-browser you can use to select, view and delete raw sequences.

Maybe. But I can take an 8x8 pixel image and scale it up to 8640x8640 using an algorithm to make it seem like there are more pixels than 64. For the data to truly contain 4K worth of RGB, the GH4 would have to read out it's full sensor. But we know it doesn't because of the greater crop factor when shooting 4k. So we know it's using ROI. So why isn't 4K really 4K? 1 pixel is made up of Red Green and Blue. CMOS sensors have more Green photosites than Blue or Red, the ratio is 2:1:1. Meaning, for every 1 green photosite, the GH4 only has 0.5 red and blue photosites. This is what the GH4 sensor captures really. It's data from a Bayer pattern. This "image" has to then be 'debayered'. Essentially what happens is a block of 2x2 "pixels" are pulled together to form a single pixel. Once the data is debayered, you're left with half of the original resolution (like the image above.) That frame is then scaled 2X using interpolation. Anyway, I ripped those pictures off Wikipedia. You can find out more by searching for Active pixel sensor, Bayer and demosaicing.

Isnt the GH4's 4k really 1080? CMOS sensors have RGBG arrays. 2:1:1 ratio RGB effectively halves resolution. By downscaling a 4k file, the image is truer to how much detail the sensor captures.

KineMini 4K costs $5,582.42 USD. BMPC4K costs $2,995.00 USD. The difference is ~ $2,580. Meaning, for an extra ~ $400, you could buy 2 BMPC4Ks. As for quality. The Kine's 13 stops should be better than the BM's 12 stops. The difference may be devastating, but without side-by-side frames, who's to say? If DR is key for a shoot, why settle on 13 stops? I'd rent a Red camera and shoot in HDR mode.
