Very informative Andrew and I certainly understand your pain. Please consider posting your items directly from your site. I feel you’re overlooking just how much people appreciate you as a person and trust all that you are doing and have done for the community. I have a long-standing history with EBay and will relay your dealings as a reason for why I am stepping away from their services. Besides, every motion camera that I have ever purchased from the site arrived broken.

Really spot-on observations Andrew, great article. “The Golden Hour” interview/podcast was just as enjoyable BTW. 
Considering the topic of this piece, I firmly believe that ideology is polluting the movie industry. I’m puzzled by the amount of resources wasted on today’s content that always seems to be pushing some strange agenda, that in the end, doesn’t influence or change opinions. A good and entertaining story is often overlooked.... except for Ford/Ferrari (that was a kick-ass film 😆✌️)
 
I noticed last week, my son and I watched Braveheart and his first comment at the end...“you know, they really don’t make movies like that anymore”. 

Art has never been about not offending people. Some would say quite the opposite: you want to make people ponder.
I think the current discussion is more about bland, well-poduced "content" on streaming platforms that is merely watchable, but very rarely comes close to being cinematic art. 
The truth is most of these new merely watchable shows have a heavy-handed ideological slant that make them transparent in their intentions, yet very profitable.
Quite the opposite of art that is complex, layered and often contradictory.

Maybe the dopamine hits of social media are to blame?
Is there a point anymore for a young twenty-year-old Herzog circa 2021 to beg, scrape, and steal to make a film?  When you can just make a tik-tok?  Get a million followers.  Move on?
Maybe social media takes away precious free-time that you need to concentrate to come up with, as David Lynch says, "catching the big fish?" 
Or maybe the social anxiety of life pre-Covid - the mental-health insanity of it all - left little time to be happy and creative?
Or maybe with the movie theatres all about to die and the rise of netflix and movies being "content" as Scorsese calls it - maybe that has sapped everything that forces someone to work so hard to make their own feature.
For me I was born in 1981, and movies were the only thing I knew up even past college in 2003 when I could have started a filmmaking career. Netflix was just a mail-order DVD service. There was no social media yet, except maybe Friendster.
Now nearly twenty years later - what do young people who want to say things do?  Do they have that precious time to be creative?
Especially now when in 2021 young people graduate with hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt vs the 1970s when young people had barely any debt and could have a decent life and buy a home with little money and had room to wander and explore?

Was discussing this with friends a few days ago.
Nowadays, there are still good movies, even they are much harder to find between the tons of garbage that is being released. 
The majority is being produced by a formula where corporate product placements (yes, this used to be done in the past too, but not to this level) and it has to be ultra politically correct.

Every movie has to feature the most possible diverse cast, preferably with the most stereotype behaviour. I understand people want inclusion, but you can't have Martin Luther King played by a white guy, just as you can't have Joan of Arc played by a black woman.  This is just pure, woke retardation. 

Look at the action stars of nowadays, compared to the ones of in the 80's or the 90's. Yeah, Dwayne Johnson is a big dude, but he's al lovable. Remember when Charles Bronson was murdering people left and right and didn't smile once in a full movie? When Jack Nicholson was intimidating? When Lundgren looked as scary on screen as offscreen? Nowadays, the male action hero is gone, as it intimidates the new generation of weak men and feminists too much. Instead we have cute women that can fight off the most roided up males. 

And the woke crowd loves being so woke, they tend to turn a blind eye when it comes to China deleting a black actor off a poster or censoring anything that might seem to come close as anti-china.

Also, back in the day, many movies weren't backed by corporate sponsors so much so they could basically say whatever they want without offending any possible shareholders. 

 

Ty's use of sound is really impressive, I would have overlooked this aspect of things had it not been mentioned earlier.
 
Special "shout out" to Aaron's latest... the sound effects are timely and leave me reassessing my own efforts.
 

Thank you for double checking for me. Yeah the FZ2500 is awesome and to be honest with you, without the slow and quick function, the GH5 seems a little less intriguing to me... as silly as I'm sure that sounds. I think I will definitely wait to see how the summer firmware is before I buy one. D7500 here I come... and maybe another FZ2500... or maybe I should follow your lead and go with the LS300...
I never used the dolly zoom, but I figured it was entirely some kind of digital scaling... or some shit... oh well that's easy enough to do with my slider. 

Some are more impartial than others, put it that way.
When you have personal relations with a nice man or nice woman from a marketing company or a camera company, you're not going to risk burning that bridge for the sake of a fully honest review which focuses on a number of negatives. You're just not.
Yes I myself have felt the pressure as well. I resisted and continue to do so.
If I cared about my relationship with people in the camera sales industry above the one I have with my own readers and followers, do you think I'd be blasting CInema5D on Twitter? I certainly wouldn't. For me though the blog is more important and shouldn't be 'sold' to the PR world.

Well the latter part is fine by me. We can have different opinions based on experience and figure out which opinion suits our own experiences and how we intend to use the cameras we buy.

Regardless, whether you call somebody out or not is a personal freedom.
Especially when it comes to your own blog and some flawed test that claims the rather wonderful GH5 is unusable.
The hype machine is very persuasive... These types of articles get the most attention.
The truth is there is no silver bullet, you cannot buy your way to filmmaking greatness with camera purchases.
But it helps to put your $1000, $2000 or $3000 on the right horse!!

C5D trashed the Cannon XC10, tanking sales for a year until Andrew published tests that restored its reputation as  brilliant camera under the right conditions. 

Quite a surprising move. I didn't expect this!

Beautifully shot and overflowing with authenticity. All those genuine moments you captured, orchestrated or not, resulted in something like a fast-paced Lynne Ramsey piece. That BMMCC is in good hands. 
I've had DBounce on my ignore list for awhile. Doesn't work when he's quoted. This garbage about music videos adhering to a rigid form is just another reason to leave him there. It's noise that drags the forum down.

Anything that is edited to be entertainment is all about timing and rhythm. Doesn't even have to be music related. I thought he did a good job of pacing and holding shots for a pleasing amount of time.

Mostly the Tokina 11-16, and the rest of it with old Nikkor AI 28mm and 50mm. All on BMPCC Speedbooster in 3:1 RAW compression. Grade in Resolve.

Yeah go to Home Depot and they sell like 12 ft x 5 ft pieces of white insulation for $15.
Not sure what you're budget is for this but you can order 25 foot telescoping poles for around $90. Get 4 of them. Stretch them out to full length on the ground. Tie a long rope between 2. Do the same for the other 2. Somehow secure the foam boards onto the 2 ropes via gaffer tape or bungie cords. Then have 2 people lift up the poles on both sides. The foam should be light enough where it would work.
 
If all of that is just too much trouble then I'd probably just shoot a couple of 1K's through some diffusion from the sides of the camera. Hopefully that'll look flat enough.

We use the LS-1S, LS-1/2 (97 CRI), 528W, 528S, and H198, in daylight color. They all work great, especially for skin tones (better than our more expensive Dracast LEDs, which are only used for bounce/back fill now). Look forward to seeing the variable spot/Fresnels from Aputure (we use a Fiilex P360EX- very nice but not variable beam angle or very bright (can swap in/out the plastic Fresnel insert).

I noticed some curious facts while going through information on the GX 85 online:

1. The Olympus compensates for upto 4 stops of shake (http://***URL removed***/reviews/bang-for-the-buck-olympus-om-d-e-m10-ii-review).
The Panasonic compensates for 4.5 stops (http://***URL removed***/news/1947970008/panasonic-lumix-dmc-gx85-offers-16mp-sensor-with-no-aa-filter-and-redesigned-shutter-mechanism. Even in the video posted, in some frames the Panasonic looks more steady, and in some the Olympus. Also, a lot of testers of the GX8, found no difference using the lens stabilization on the GX8, as opposed to only body, or vice versa, especially for stills. So, this is like Olympus' 5-axis, rather than the GX8.

Correction: In the Olympus models they vary, in the EM5 and the EM1s they compensate for 5 stops of shake as well. 

2. The Olympus is unable to handle anything more than 1080p, for many reasons. The Panasonic does 4k, but it will overheat (I read it in one of the forums, though I think they read the literature on the Sony, than the Panasonic, since how can the Panasonic literature come out, before the camera does). I am guessing it may have a 30 min limit, also to do with overheating (I hope I am wrong). But, I doubt it will be anywhere near the unbelievably low shoot timings on the A6300 or others.

3. A lot of the photos from the GX85 posted online are quite over-saturated (some even suspiciously look like they have been made to look this, in post). I could be wrong, but I am  guessing the removal of the AI filter along with the new shutter mechanism, has improved the quality of pics by more than 10% (more like 15-20%). This could sound disastrous for Panasonic buyers, especially of the GX8 and G7, who could be up in arms. So Panasonic is downplaying this. The good part is almost no reviewer worth his salt (or his credibility in Google AdSense or whatever other manner of measure) will be able to test this with clinical precision (without getting a horde of users and viewers abusing him and dismissing his credibility).

4. This is also the reason that Log Profiles and other Pro features have been disabled. I am guessing, they will have a Dud HDMI port (which will only play back on TVs via the HDMI-in or something), as the cherry on the cake, since they already removed the under $5 needed to put a mic jack.

But, regardless of everything, for $799 this is a superb deal, especially since it comes with a great kit lens.

I wish the Magic Lantern guys would just hack the Panasonics (G7, GX8, GX7, GX85) instead of the Canons, and give things like Log Profiles and 10-bit via HDMI internal. Sell it via an App on the App Stores, or paid via PayPal downloads. I can't think of why someone would not wanna pay for it. I know a lot of people paid Vitaly for hacking the GH2. 

12mm is pretty wide. I have a speedbooster on it that makes it nearly equivalent to a Super35 sensor, which is a field of view I'm more used to. and I have it rigged like this currently. when i go shoulder mounted the monitor gets rigged to the front with a Noga arm connected to two handles, and a shoulder pad slides onto those rear rods where the monitor is now. whole thing weighs roughly 7lbs and that's a fairly heavy lens on it. it's just enough weight to counter "micro jitters" without making it a beast to lug around.

thinking more about it - using this camera with a paralinx trinton and you are good to go for wireless options.
