Last week I finished a short film that we shot on the GH3 with the Speed Booster. I thought it's maybe interesting for you guys to hear and see how it holds up in the field. At first I received a faulty Speed Booster, but the 2nd one worked great. It feels solid and well designed, although there is a little 'play' on the camera mount side. Nothing to worry about though. It makes my lenses wider and better. There is some purple fringing though at low light shots when pointing at a light source, but this is only at very large apertures. The lenses are perfectly usable at high apertures in 'normal' situations with the Speed Booster. It didn't hold me back while I was shooting with it, so that's great. I see no increase or decrease in sharpness without pixel peeping. Simply to say, it's ignorable and you can shoot safely :) To answer a previous question. The Speed Booster works great with the Samyang 16mm f2.0. It acts as an 11mm FOV and there is no vignetting! (well I do have some vignetting, but that's because I use a variable ND filter with a smaller filter thread that the one of my lens) I'm a real fan of the Samyang primes. I have the 16mm f2.0 / 35mm f1.4 / 85mm f1.4. They feel and look solid and professional. Image quality is great. Usuable wide open, but really good stopped down 1 - 2 stops. Thanks to the Speed Booster I love my GH3 even more now. With a crop factor of around 1.4x, it's comparible to a S35 sensor. So I now have the 6 most used focal lenghts (with normal adapter / speed booster), an effective s35 sensor when I need it and all the good stuff and quality that I'm used to from the GH3. Maybe you guys are interested in the short film. It's a short comedy film (5 min) and is, with a few exceptions, shot with the Speed Booster. Hi, I'm using a Panasonic GH3 and recently bought the 'new' Samyang primes. I got the 16mm, the 35mm and the 85mm. The 35mm and the 85mm work great on a el cheapo Fotga adapter from ebay. No problems there. But the 16mm is horribly soft in the corners. And with corners I mean everything but the center. After testing multiple copies, I found out today that it's the adapter causing this effect. When mounting it on a Novoflex adapter (€170) the image was fine, even wide open. The problem is that I think €170 is too much for an adapter, especially in these 'quiet' times when money is an object. Which adapter should I buy? I don't want no $10 Ebay adapters anymore. Also, I have tried a 'Kiwi' midrange adapter (€50) and it gave me the same problem on the 16mm. Also, it had a lot of play on both sides of the adapter. So, what about in-between brands like Kipon? Would that seal the deal? Or is high-end the only way to go here, as the 16mm turns out to be a 'picky' lens? What do you guys think?

I'm once more amazed by the GH3. It blows away the 5DMk3 (non-raw) and the 7D (in raw). Heck it even competes with the 5d raw and the BMC ... I have to pixel peep to see the differences. I think in most controlled (!) situations, you can make these camera's look very similar. And that says a lot, when the GH3 is just a cheap, small 8-bit h.264 camera... -
The makers claim that they are aware of the 'problems' with the 1st generation Lens Turbo and that these are solved / improved in the new MFT version. The speedbooster MFT version is also much better than the 1st generation. Let's see, I will wait for some reviews when it comes out. The speedbooster is €500,00 in my country and I simpyl think that's too expensive at the moment. Not for what it does, but for what it is.

I ordered the 16mm f2.0 (Nikon mount). Will get here in 1-2 days. Exciting. I heard (from rumors) that next month the 'Lens Turbo' Nikon F -> MFT will be released. This is a Chinese knock-off of the Speedbooster. Will probably be at least 50% cheaper. I'm only looking at the 85mm now. I can get a Cine version for a pretty good price. Is the focus ring of the Cine version also 'comfortable' enough for shooting without a follow focus? It doesn't look like it from the pictures. Anyone has experience with it?

Thanks for your reply Julian. I think I'm going ahead with it. It's amazing to buy 3 primes and a Speedbooster and get 6 primes in return :) Thanks for the info on the speedbooster in combination with the 16mm. Might be pushing it indeed. At least I can always use it with a regular adapter and who might have slight vignetting with the speedbooster. Let's see. 1 more question. I have a variable ND filter of 67mm. The 16mm has a filter size of 77mm. If I use a step-up ring and mount the 67mm filter on the 77mm lens, is that a garuanteed vignetting? And will that be a slight vignetting, or will it be really large? Otherwise I have to buy a new ND filter as well... I already tested it on the 35mm and there is no vignetting. But considering that the 16mm is pretty wide...

I want to sell my current M43 lenses and 'swap' them for the new Samyang primes. They seem great! I already got the 35mm 1.4 and now I'm looking for the 85mm and the new 16mm f2.0. With these lenses and the speedbooster I would have the following focal lengths: 11mm 1.4 (w speedbooster) 16mm 2.0 24mm 1.0 (w speedbooster) 35mm 1.4 55mm 1.0 (w speedbooster) 85mm 1.4 This seems almost too good to be true. Are there any downsides to this? If I put a speedbooster before the 35mm, is that just as good as buying the 24mm 1.4? Second question. Do normal adapters cause any drop in image quality? The 16mm f2.0 also comes in a MFT mount which can be mounted directly on my GH3. However, I'm planning to get the Nikon version so it can be mounted on the Speedbooster. But will the normal adapter induce quality loss? Or is the Nikon version with an adapter optically the same as the M43 version? Hope to hear your thoughts! BTW, I shoot only video and use a GH3.

Why does everything in this world have to be smaller, thinner, lighter, etc... The pocket BMCC is awesome in terms of specs and price, but what kind of form factor is this? It is as big as my phone... It looks retarted and its hard to work with on a set. That's where this camera will be used right? On a set. Or will this be a gadget to film your friends doing tequila shots with 13 stops DR? If only camera manufacturers would build form factors that are actually pleasant to use as a camera, that would be great.

Thanks for your time and your comments. I understand your critism and might even think you are right in the sense that there should have been a bit more tension at the reuniting scene. However I do not agree with 'building it' up so gradually, because this movie is simply not about the reunion specifically. I want the viewers to think 'what is the old man going to do now?' during the movie. 'Why is he shaving his beard?' 'Did he just stopped drinking?' Then when the daughter opens the door and says the magic word 'pop', it comes as a surprise. It explains why the man might have started drinking in the 1st place and who he was visiting at the graveyard. I don't want the 'question' of this movie to be 'is the man going to make it right with his daughter?' But 'What is the man going to do now after he survived that crash?' And whatever he chooses to do, it had to be done earlier... I'm not trying to deny your comments here, you have a valid point. In the end it is just about preference and taste I guess. Yours is more dramatical, mine more conceptual. And a story needs both to make it work :)

Thanks man! It is shot in mov. Most shots are done in 24p, but for some shots I used the 'framerate' mode (which slows it down automaticly by shooting at a higher framerate). For instance the dreamy shot in the car and the end shots are done at 80% speed (which is 30p). Almost all shots have apertures between f2.5 and f4. Oh I actually didn't know this. I just checked and indeed, the original file is gone... Bad. Would have loved to show you guys how much detail and resolution there is in the shots. Anyway, thanks for your comment. I'm happy you liked it :)

I don't know on which resolution you guys are viewing the comparison video of the D7100 and GH3, but on my 27" 2560x1440 monitor the GH3 destroys the D7100. The only thing that is better on the D7100 is the color, as the GH3 has a bit of a magenta cast over the image. That might be a user-error or a WB problem, but in the end it is very easy to color correct that. Everytime the D7100 image 'kicks in', I feel like I'm going back in time to the softness of a Canon 7D / 5D. It is nowhere 'HD' and the lack of detail is disturbing to me. Everytime the GH3's image kicks in, I'm like 'aah finally, crispness'. :) Furthermore I see no increase in DR from this video, although it is not really a good setting to compare that. Honestly, after watching several D7100 / D5200 video's, I haven't seen anything that makes me understand what the fuzz is about...

Hi all, We shot a short film on the new Panasonic GH3 and here is the result of the 2.5 shooting days. Would be great if you would watch it and give your opinion. I'm in the film business now for about 3 years but have worked mostly on corporate stuff. This is actually my 1st 'real' short drama film, as well as the 1st real production with the GH3.
