Shooting anamorphic for the first time? (help please!)
christrad replied to Oliver Daniel's topic in Cameras
One week won't be enough I'm afraid. Learning anamorphic techniques is a long process. So why don't you share your job with someone who is familiar with anamorphic ? Not me I live in France btw... -
Please Mr Samsung ! 4:3 mode on the next firmware for the anamorphic shooters, thanks.

I've heard somewhere that the magnifictaion on the NX1 is only x4! I checked briefly in the manual but didn't find anything about it. It could be real issue, can someone help me about this because I was about to buy it? Thanks.

It's the first I've seen and heard about a wide angle adapter in front of an anamorphic set! Don't know what to think about it... -

+1. I had the same problem and use the same solution (pin corner on AE). Not easy but works pretty well.

Just watch the bokeh, hi didn't use an anamorphic lens... -
Thanks for your answers. I'm gonna look at MJPEG on the GH2, my friend got one but non hacked, maybe he'll let me try it. Seb, if you have used this mode and can give me some tips, I will appreciate....

Hi, I'm looking for an alternative to BMPCC or ML Raw to shoot 4:3 with my x2 anamorphic lens (Kowa for B&H) because I'm not ready for RAW. So I was wandering if any DSLR have an integrated 4:3 crop (hoping Panasonic G6 got it cause I would love to buy it)... My budget is around 1500 $, thanks.

No bokeh, how could we figure it out? By the way, too much smoke IMO... I'll say 5D MarkIII Raw, non anamorphic.

I don't agree with u Paulio. I think Double focus just need some practice even if I've never used it on set. I own a 5D MarkII with a Kowa for Bell & Howell (wich I highly recommand like John Barlow) and here is my last video, it's not Raw but H264. On this vid, I had only a short time (like 2 hours) and you'll see by yourself that double focus is possible... http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x16on4j_ange-aux-abbesses-anamorphic-kowa-for-bell-howell_creation

I use a M42 Takumar SMC 85mm 1.8 with a Kowa for Bell & Howell on a 5D MarkII and they're working fine together. It flares less than the older non coated version 85mm 1.9 of course but enough for my taste. The Takumar 85mm 1.8 is a very sought-after version, a bit expensive and rare but the 1.9 version is cheaper and easier to find.

Hi, yes it's a pretty good copy in my opinion, and I bought it like knew despite the years ! I'm pretty happy about it. Here's a night footage with 2 friends, shot with the same Sankor 16D, a GH2 and a Super Takumar 50mm f/1.4 : https://vimeo.com/65214013 I bought recently "the" Kowa for Bell & Howell, also like new, but I'm waiting for a Resdstan clamp to use it. Dying to try it !

Hi, new in anamorphic, here's my first footage, shot in a french parc the first shiny day of spring in Paris. Using Super Takumar (no coating) 100mm f/2.8 and Takumar SMC 135mm f/2.5 as talking lenses. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xy8wqf_anamorphic-sankor-16d-buttes-chaumont_creation#.UYFC88r42uM Almost not graded, but cropped to aproximatly 1.85 to avoid vigneting. Since this footage, I often use a big cheap plastic lens hood (72mm) to avoid (not completly though) the white vigneting when pointed in front of the sun or strong light. Never heard about this technique but works pretty well for me so far... I need an answer about one point : I know that diopters are used of course for close up and in low light condition, but in low light, do you use it even when you're far from the subjects (more than 1, 2 m) ? In other words, do you recomand to always keep the diopter on your anamorphic lens in low light condition ? Thanks for your answer...

"Old Takumar lenses produce the most dramatic flares of all the brands I've tested... but unfortunately, they are not really sturdy enough to support an anamorphic." I use Takumar 80mm 1.8, 105mm 2.5 and 135mm 2.5 with a Sankor 16D on 5D MarkII and never had any problem with this configuration. So I wonder why you said that they're not sturdy enough ? Takumar are old lenses in metal and look pretty sturdy in my opinion...
