  1. The thing that intriques me about this raw thing is putting the images thru DXO software (Quality optical corrections) .. Can some one clarify to me this one simple point? Are the frames beeing recorded as indivudal Raw files PNG's ?
  2. The problem is that Adobe could change the pricing at any time since it's a company that is solely responsible only to the stock holders.   So to affect the stock price they could one day say 2 years from now up the price by 30% .. And there is nothing you can do about it. How ever reasonable the pricing as a package it is for you right now.     So.. Now they lure you in and once they "have you" it's very hard to let go. Then they can start raising the prices.   I would Welcome competition. You have just seen it how good it is with the camera gear. IF there was just Canon and Sony .. we would not have the stuff we now have.
  3.   Yeah from a small guys perpective.. Movi gets high praise that perhaps some one else makes the same tech at a reasonable price. Chinese or who ever..
  4. Just few days ago I realised that Adobe will no longer offer the CS packages in any other form than monthly subscription. Basically they make online access mandatory while you use it. How ever annoying and compromising the online requirement is. The biggest problem is the Cost.   From a video perspective there is more sense to the approach that they have taken since .. they trickle down those Mercury engine updates from one version to the next and in a sense they offer actual new features by enabling Hardware acceleration for filters and functions. In addition offering support for new cameras and video codecs. For a photographer the program has been ready enough for years.   There is quite heated discussion going on on Drpreview.com forums. People are searching for alternative workflows paths that does not involve Adobe products at all.   Aparently the Lightroom 5 still is a standalone program but version 6 might be a different story.
  5. Sounds very nice if we get yet more features to our cameras that more or less started it all. Even a timelapse feature would be awesome if it's nothing more.
  6. I personally build my machines. My background is firmly rooted in the PC world. I agree with FilmMan .. Buying at the right time saves alot of money. It was not long ago when we hd the crazy HDD prices due to Thailand floods.   I dont see my self buying a 4K camera right away. The 4K resolution is like a lure in the water for me..  4K's main allure is the resolution when you scale down to 180p.  And it does not hurt to have 4K it in one's camera as a feature even tho a 6k or 8K sensor is likely needed for detailed 4K image.  For now I'm purely a hobbyist but I did build my workstation with future in mind .. I chose a motherboard with thunderbolt ports.   Doing the math for any kind of serious work scenario where you backup everyrthing on a second set of HDD's .. that's alot of HHD's.. even if the example would be 30% RAW and 70% PROress from a Black Magic cinema camera.   Good thing is that I havent yet bought the Software for video editting. So for now I'm honing my skills with 5DMKII. I might go the Magix 2013 route and if video turns out to be my thing I will get CS Production Premium 6.5 or just premiere 6.5. Magix video pro 4 can take proress in but 400 euros for mediocre software is alot.       BTW. any suggestions for the cheapest possible decent software that can handle PRORES and it has to be for Windows enviroment???
  7. It's great to have 4K video cameras at reasonable prices. Cheap 4K makes it possible to anyone to show their creative vision as well as the film can. We all know it takes HHD space to shoot 4K and even more so if you shoot 4K RAW.    So one crucial thing regarding the edit is the machine that can house a lot of HDD's and the size of those HDD's.  Intel is about to release the same processor for the third time (the Nehalem) And the biggest HDD size is pathetic 4 terabytes. Capitalism right now is not pushing the tech forward at the same pace as it does in camera technology.   So we need to have bigger HDD's .. where are you Westerndigital 4tb red/green .. and more importantly 6-8 terbatyte drives have yet to be released.    Motherboard manufacturers have yet to make boards with 20 sata ports.  And computer case manufacturers could choose to make cases with room for standard ATX board and 40 HDD's ..    Adobe is doing it's part quite well regarding the editing software.  Intel could release the 8-core socket 2011 cpu if they wanted. They have no competition and no need to do so.    Some of you may like Apple and external expensive HDD's. That's fine if it works for you. I prefer cheap and effective gear.    We need to ask for the products we need.
  8. If the video quality is lacking it would be a clever move from Panasonic to push people who were hoping to get little improved cheap GH2 to consider buying the more expensive GH 3 instead.
  9. It would be good if Nikon entered the game as well. I remember sending them email once explaining to them that they should make a proper video DSLR. That was around when 5DII was launched.   Should the Nikon 1 system be used as a video camera platform the let down atm would be from Nikon perspective the lack of pro lenses for the 1 system that are made by Nikon.
  10. Seems like a good product.. but man the margins on that thing..  7" samsung tablet is like 200 euros here in Finland. So the screen is what 30 Dollars (parts) ..
  11. In relation to my orginal SLR magic thread. Dear Andrew. Why so hasty Lock for my thread? You posted this line. SLR Magic's current lenses the 12mm F1.6, 25mm F0.95, 35mm T0.95 and 50mm T0.95 HyperPrime CINE are original optical designs. Do you mean by that wording.. that SLR magic is the designer of the lenses? Or just that they are a provider of orginal optical designs which basically can mean all lenses that they sell / distribute. I like to do detective work as it would seem so do you. I would have liked a discussion on the subject. In nowhere on SLR magic site do they say that they design the lenses them selves. That is what I asume you were implying.
  12. A perfect marriage of technology and software would be if Apple Iphone 5 / 6 had this camera tech inside it. So far the windows mobile 8 has not soared that high in regards how much interesting software is available. How ever windows mobile 8 certanly is better platform than the symbian something.. that the pureview 808 was based on. .. AND I OWN NOKIA STOCK.. B)
  13. When I first saw the SLR magic lenses I was still in the Canon world of 5dMarkII and paid not too much atention to them at that point. But now in the light of Digital Bolex with and the discovery of c mount along with it. I came across with all sorts of c mount lenses of wich most prominently sold are the Chinese CCTV lenses. From them the most notable are the 25mm and 35mm lenses. I bought them to be used with my NIkon V1.. and boy do those 16-20 euro Fujians deliver in price performance.   So today I went back checking out SLR magic and their products. Only to find out that the most of them seem to be different kinds of CCTV lenses. So with no chainges execpt the SLR magic name on them or with different coloured rubberbands and custom lettered chinese made mount convertes. I have to Glarify out that I havent used the SLR magic lenses my self! This thread is purely about observations that I made by comparing product photos and reading product descriptions.   THE SLR magic 26mm toy lens Seems to be exactly the same lens as the Fujian 25mm f.1.4 (there could be a difference.. if they have made a custom order with more round aperture blade set inside)   Here you have SLR magic edition with a 3$ C mount to micro four thirds adapter probably glued on it. Extra cost for blue rubber pieces is abouts 58 pounds / euros what have you. http://www.ukdigital.co.uk/slr-magic-toy-26mm-f14-lens-mft.html For compasiron the 25mm f1.4 Fujian CCTV lens c mount lens (search in ebay if the ebay link below is dead) http://www.ebay.com/itm/25mm-f-1-4-C-Mount-CCTV-Lens-for-Nikon-J1-V1-J2-Canon-EOS-M-Pentax-Q-Olympus-LF7-/251249312401?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a7fa04291     35mm 1.7  SLR magic http://www.ukdigital.co.uk/slr-magic-35mm-f17-lens-mft.html Fujian  35mm 1.7 http://www.ebay.com/itm/35mm-f-1-7-C-Mount-CCTV-Lens-2-Macro-Ring-for-Nikon-J1-V1-V2-Panaosnic-G5-LF8-/150983551305?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2327522949 now the 50mm F.095 SLR magic lens really is a good quality lens. and it's by no means free lens as CCTV lens. http://www.ukdigital.co.uk/slr-magic-50mm-f095-hyperprime-lens-mft.html When you look up Navitar 50mm f/0.95 for c mount it certainly looks the same to me.   EOSHD is about discoveries and I bet this might have been discovered before. It is just cheap in my book and I think you deserve to hear my observations.   They even write like vignetting of the 26mm SLR magic toy lens is a feature.   "Furthermore, it offers strong vignetting in the corners." straight from their page.    I say its not a feature it's a c mount lens with a micro four thirds adapter .. off course it vignettes just as it does on every ebay sellers sample image who are selling the chinese Fujians it with the adapter.
  14. A video review of the Samyang 7.5mm (Aparently allso by other brands like Bower and Rokinon) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zl8W99biLmU
  15. There is this Samyang 7.5mm for the micro four thirds mount. I have no idea on how it performs. http://www.samyang-lens.co.uk/samyang-75mm-f35-umc-fisheye-mft.html It's 22.5 mm on the BMPCC
  16. Zoom h1 v2 .. (quick from the top of my mind).
  17. For starters you might consider one of these. A nice 25mm 1.4 for CCTV lens for 16 euros (including shipping) not bad a bad price. Notice this particular listing has 2 macro rings. http://www.ebay.com/itm/25mm-F1-4-CCTV-C-Mount-Lens-for-Sony-NEX-7-5N-5C-5R-Olympus-E-PM1-E-PM2-E-M5-LF7-/150983551309?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item232752294d I have the WHOLE SERIES :) , 25mm, 35mm, 50mm, even tho the silver edition 50mm I received from dino direct needs to modified for infinity focus to work.
  18.   Those N-20el batteries cost about 4-6 dollars on ebay and a regular "china charger" cost about 5 dollars. Some unchipped batteries need a sepperate charger as was the case when I bought batteries for 5DMKII  in the days. Anyways the extra charger is handy to have when you need to charge multiple batteries in a rush. Allso you might need a US to EU powerplug adapter to go with your "china charger".
