My problem with RL, a down-the-street cityscape becomes a whirl pool with physical movement of the camera, trying to fix that is like... well, replace it all with CG? And I wasn't aware that RED still had RL sensors as well... though it should make sense as it was a big deal for Sony's next cinema camera to have a global shutter, and an even bigger deal for the BMD 4K camera to have it as well, maybe I was thinking they still used CCD. And alas the lack of versatility in frame rates is still an issue as well, but what's still great is that the 5DIII is a compact and affordable piece of gear capable of beautiful RAW footage. Maybe not as a main camera, but B roll or crash it will definitely mix well with what's out there. -

We can agree pretty much that the 5DIII produces the best (yes there's better but for sake of argument) picture for what is a steal of a bargain. I like seeing the ML RAW revolution as more a Cinema camera suddenly becoming affordable and can bring to you image quality that leaves nothing to be desired. As for the above comment, really the only reason for the 5DIII to fail in a "pro environment capable or not" argument is the rolling shutter, as sometimes it's totally negligible, but really stinks to have to consider that and keep action on the low. But otherwise why not take notice? The 5DIII is like what the original 5D was for photos, a 35mm sensor and affordable great image quality. The camera itself may not be great (for the 5DIII, not great for most video work) but you get image quality, and if you can at least get away from a shoot with a beautiful image and you didn't spend 10,000 extra for a "better" camera that's really on the same level with the picture, then who's the winner? -
If people attempt to color grade then that's a step above the multitude of people who don't even bother, or even understand the importance of post work on color, contrast and exposure adjustments. There are plenty of videos and feature films with horrible colors already, I don't think the access to raw changes anything, if the short film has terrible colors then so be it, there will be people that pay attention and care, and others that honestly wouldn't even notice. It's difficult enough to match the palette for each shot in a sequence, especially when one can't afford all the right lights and color matched lenses.

If it were an 'electronic' Nikon F mount... but noo, it's dumb and that's something an EF mount via adapter could replicate. And what's the FPS, lemme guess, limited to 30P right? Maybe not, but oh man this is actually more of a flop from start camera than that uber slow lens Leica, because the Leica may actually sell a few units because there are people that will just do that, this camera?? Maybe, just maybe a rental company or two... obligation or contract, dunno, but someone might just find an application for all the backwards specs on this JVC Oh yeah, and speaking of ND filters why are they so scarce with so many cameras? The Fuji X100 has a built in ND, and I don't suppose many users take advantage of that, or even know about it to begin with. And here, another day and another VIDEO camera that doesn't have any built in... watching advertisements though like from McDees I guess shutter speed is overrated now anyways, those super high refresh rate TVs smooth out all the motion anyways

A"Of course, it's all there is showing anyways, so I went ahead and watched them" B*Facepalm* It seems there isn't much an increase in movie goers when there's a good movie out, but that there are times when people just want to watch something, go all the way out to a theatre, and watch anything that's showing. And naturally, whatever film that was advertised all over the place will get all the attention as it sparks the "oh hey I heard of this, lets see it just because" in plenty of people. Even I've gone to watch films that I've read/heard about beforehand in having terrible reviews, but something in me says "go ahead, looks fun" and there we go, money lost over time ill spent, non-conversation worthy films are the worst...

This is hilarious, Canon rumors forum is now all Canon video, every thread on the front is about video!! It appears a lot of people are suddenly interested in shooting video, plenty of "I have lots of stills experience and would like to make a production film now". Well, ML has just turned the visual media world on it's head (again?), what would be hilarious is if Canon still doesn't respond, and instead it's Nikon that brings out a firmware upgrade to say, the D800 to provide raw video, then what would happen?

Beautiful! The indoor shots of the Kendo practice had amazing colors and dynamic range is there! But what's going on right at 0:54, I see two garbled bars show up... compression issue? I've never seen a video do this on Vimeo so have some worries with the hack :/

And I just got a GH3... love how I'm mixing still shooting between this and the 5D MKII and it's hard to tell the difference between the two, while video wise the GH3 is outstanding... but look now the 5Ds are going raw and things are changing up fast. But, unless raw video becomes available to the lower tier DSLRs I don't see M43 filmmaking going away just yet. Aside from cost especially for multi-cam there's weight, which can be a big deal when doing rig and steadicam work, or travel, and then there's that flip screen, which is nice to have but yeah not a game changer compared to raw. But then 5Ds will need to be able to shoot faster, at least 60FPS for slow mo, the MKIII has 720P 60 so if that can be shot in RAW, and possibly at higher res then yes it's over for M43.

Most definitely, here in Japan prints are everywhere like any other day, trains are chock full of advertising and it's rather interesting to take a look at a lot of them for being fine detailed quality prints with often great color tone. Now for the RX1, great review! I'm still not tempted to get one with the price + fixed lens nature, as often as I shoot with a 35mm anyways, but goodness that DR is marvelous, it gets difficult to appreciate such latitude with a final photo, where actually taking the shot and then post editing to see what can be done is where the magic is at, but saturated blue skies and the dark areas under tents exposed equally really is insane to think of, and a white tiger on a sunny day with again, saturated blue sky. Now look at what you've done, today's a super clear day and now I don't feel like taking my 5DII out for a stroll :( Although I'm confident my Sigma 35 is a better lens, not just a stop faster, but sharper and never had any problem with purple fringing :) I wonder though if/when this camera will be used for an event by the likes of Ryan Brenizer or someone, he used an X100 and the results were fantastic, so a small camera with a big punch like the RX1 in a wedding would be great for the candids, stealthy and unobtrusive for the intimate moments (though, once people are used to big glass they do tend to not care anyways).

Canon 5D 2K raw feed update - 1920x720 possible on 1000x card?

I'm curious about the heat, can the 5Ds cope with this higher output? Feeling they'd get plenty hot, and seeing how the 1DC needed the improved internal design to handle 4K video -
So as tweeted, the recording is still as soft... guess I'm getting a GH3 for video work then, why was I even waiting for this, for the price of an external recorder + 5DIII anyways I can get a couple BMPCs to record along with the GH3, not sure yet if the GH3 can work alongside my 5DII for photos, but AF and DR are at least better... Oh right, Black Magic needs to actually deliver those cameras before we can all say we're getting one, such challenging times for budget video!
