  1. A little off topic, but a while ago I was playing with making an iOS app that would use the phone’s LiDAR and having the app connect to my BMPCC4K via Bluetooth to control focus. I sold that camera awhile ago and forgot about it, but recently I was playing around with a little Apple Airtag, and that thing, with my iPhone 12 Pro, can seemingly measure distance down to centimeters, if not even smaller. Now Apple hasn’t yet opened the Airtag to developers (if they ever will), but if they do I could see an app that tracks the distance of an Airtag and then sends that info to my S1 for focus, especially since Panasonic does already have an SDK for developers to build apps to control Lumix’s. Something like that could help level the playing field for Panasonic camera’s AF woes. Panasonic just switching over to phase detection could also help 😉
  2. I don’t know why I’m so happy to see my S1 at #1, I did it, I’m not one of the stupid customers! It does deserve it though, they had me at 10bit+IBIS. And yes, the ergonomics are superior. In terms of low light, doesn’t the S1 also have dual iso?
  3. Yes, I mean Sony already has IBIS in their APS-C’s, but it’s unusable. I’m not here to defend this camera, there’s a lot left to be desired, but don’t hate it because it’s beautiful and plastic (like my hometown of LA here).
  4. What’s with all the hate, it’s an alternate-looking Z50, and last I checked the Z50 was pretty well reviewed. Granted, I doubt I’ll sell my S1 for it, but hell, isn’t Nikon days away from bankruptcy? They’re trying out something that the masses might actually buy, I get it. Has phase detection, un-cropped 4K, it’s no worse off than one of the Sony APS-C’s.
  5. Yeah, well resolve has a whole slew of controls in the raw adjustment settings area, you could do a complete grade just from that one section, contrast, shadow/highlight recovery, WB, saturation. FCP offers WB and exposure adjustment. Everything else needs a plug-in added to adjust. And the raw adjust is in the footage’s info section, and you can’t copy it from one clip to the next, the whole thing just doesn’t seem all that intuitive.
  6. I actually just returned a Ninja V back to Amazon today after playing around with it and Prores raw the past few days. I didn’t think the extra weight and size was worth it relative to the IQ bump I was seeing in raw, I just wasn’t blown away. Plus as a longtime Davinci Resolve user who had to jump back to FCP after many years away from it in order to work with Prores raw, I wasn’t happy, not thrilled with the raw control in FCP.
  7. Kind of a random question, but in terms of my S1 and this newest update- will I see any benefit to going out and buying a CFexpress card? I know they are faster than my UHS-II SD card, but the SD card is handling the new 6k mode just fine, so is there a benefit from a video standpoint? I know the downside is they are more expensive than my card.
  8. Not to be a jerk to her, but I think maybe she just has greasy, tired skin?
  9. Is it just me? I feel like this photo of the face looks pretty great, am I missing something?
  10. I don't think that looks so good, lots of pulsing when he was walking towards the camera; maybe better than Panasonic? But not really useable.
  11. Well then as a camera for video, it’s confused as hell. Certain crop settings offer better dynamic range? You only get phase detection at a different crop setting than that? Even adding Phase detection seems pointless then because it’s of no use for video here because it’s not going to be able to do useable continuous AF while shooting. Why would you ever shoot at 1x crop knowing you are taking a hit in IQ? They blocked the ability to shoot raw video externally with the EVF? So many weird things for a camera just aimed at video. My suggestion that it was aimed more at photographers was my attempt to throw them a bone, give them an excuse.
  12. The lack of an HDMI port on the EVF, or even an eye sensor on the EVF so that the picture automatically switches between screen or EVF without having to press a button seems like sloppy design. I had the original FP, it was good in many ways, the lack of articulating screen was bad, still hasn’t been fixed here, though I did read there is a mod out now (just like the one on my BMPCC4k that makes that camera actually useable), but it would be nice to not have to tear your camera apart yourself to make it so. This one def seems more geared towards photographers, though yeah, that AF is not much to write home about; not sure what this brings to someone interested primarily in stills. Add the EVF and it’s not longer an RX1 sized camera.
  13. I’m not sure which did it, but I did calibration as well as firmware update, and the noise has disappeared. I’m pretty impressed so far, especially for photos, I never would have imagined using the pocket for photography, other than maybe panos. Look at the crop of this 64MP photo, blown out sky, yes I know, but the detail is pretty great-
  14. Got mine today from Best Buy, a few days early apparently. Getting some motor noise when it’s close to its limits, don’t remember the original one ever doing that, it’s pretty noticeable. Might have to return, unless someone can confirm that this is normal?
  15. The timing! I’m in the middle of making my own similar device, with a raspberry pi zero, only mine will offer both LIDAR-based AF for my Pocket4K as well as SteadXP-type stabilization using a gyroscope and accelerometer. Mine is for me though, no plans to sell, so we can skip the cease and desist letters. I am also working on an iOS app for the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max that will do the same things, use the phone’s LIDAR to control BMPCC’s af as well as record movement with gyro and accelerometer for stabilization. That one will be available soon.
  16. He said he had to send the camera in for repair.
  17. It’s on the product page for the camera as well as every review, the clean hdmi output is 8bit; not saying this couldn’t change in the future, maybe they could change this in a firmware update, but wasn’t mentioned and I doubt they’d bother adding it if they are focusing on Ninja V raw output.
  18. Well, there’s no 10bit coming out of the Mark III- with or without an external recorder- just 8bit, so I’ll just have to wait for the raw update come winter to see how it looks.
  19. Well I, for one, am pretty excited about this, went out and ordered the Mark III today. I was heartbroken to hear about the sale of Olympus, especially as I owned an E-M1 ii for quite some time and loved everything about it except that 8bit codec... so having just sold my X-T4, I pretty excited for this, even if it turns out to be Olympus’s last hurrah.
  20. I have not experienced overheating in the month I’ve had my X-T4.
  21. Mine doesn’t, at least not yet. Definitely not after only 20 minutes. The only reports I’ve seen of overheating for the X-T4 are all the different websites quoting the one Northrup video, and who gives a shit what that a-hole has to say?
  22. I bought an X-T4 four weeks ago, and reading articles like this really make me happy with my choice! (A strange feeling when you are GAS-afflicted!)
  23. As in, turning the camera 90 degrees sideways and shooting in portrait mode? Ok, I can do a test of that later tonight.
  24. Here's one more, with a slower move- I feel like I see micro jitters in 'IBIS- Boost Off' 'IBIS+DIS-Boost On' looks best to me.
  25. Here is my quick test I just did with firmware 1.02 and the WR 35 f2 lens. Honestly, I can't tell which mode is working best here. Am I moving too fast to see it?
