Nikon Z6 features 4K N-LOG, 10bit HDMI output and 120fps 1080p
Danyyyel replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
This channel has a whole series of test, some I would call torture test of the focus, low light etc. This is in video and photo mode. For me this is beyond the level I think I would use it. I don't know how other MILC autofocus work but for me it is quite impressive. As a Nikon user it is a dream come true. So impatient to get a z6, the Nikon image was already so good, now getting all the goodies like great video autofocus, ibis etc will make it a killer system. I hope they rapidly get some apsc version and not leave it to the higher end version. -

Nikon said the Z6 will do full sensor readout while z7 will do line skipping in full frame. It doesn't ,ean the z7 will be bad in video, in fact everything point out it will be very good, but things like rolling shutter might be better on z6, because it is much faster to read 25 megapixel than 45 ones. -

I wouldn't even consider the z7 for hybrid or video shooters. I would go for the Z6, even Nikon stated that the Z6 was more appropriate for video. Amazing autofocus AF in low light in my opinion, well above my own personal use. I think for video it should be the same as photo as they share the same system. -
Yep I would like to see it tested, it could act a bit like an inbuilt HDR mode with the flat profile enabled. More so as N log can only be used at ISO 800, which will need some serious NDs.

Yes all these people criticism about the lens lineup, while most of them are using second hand vintage lens on their camera and so many are complaining because they can't adapt their existing lens to XYZ camera. If they were that rich to buy 1.5 - 2k primes, I think it should not have been a problem to re buy all lens line up. If someone can tell me the advantage in film making between a 1.8 and 1.4/1.2 lens, I am really curious. Perhaps they have fun shooting 90% of the time there subject out of focus. Don't you have a way to let him post but be invisible to every one. He would still think that he is posting and no one would be responding, a troll worst nightmare. The guy doesn't contribute anything to this forum, he says he has zero interest in the Nikon but continuously post on them.

That guy is a troll, don't loose your time on him, as you already seen he has zero knowledge or knowingly spouting non sense to get some attention. Someone calling Nikon D850 sensor old tech, says it all. He says he has zero interest in the Nikon but continuously comment on them. As for the Mavic pro 2, it has a sensor at least 8 times smaller than the all these MILC and has 4 rotor than must be the largest/loudest camera fan in the world.

You get a clue, every reviewer has said that the AF works the same as on native Fmount camera, it is even weather sealed. Now the AF system is quite different in use than traditional Nikon system, so some who have only used it for 1 hour might have got it wrong, but if it failed or had quirks, it affected both system. Dpreview even makes the bold claim (at least until the Canon eosR) that the z7 had the best video AF period. Or perhaps if you spent a week with the camera you could tell us your experience !!! At least two people have tested sigma art lens with the adapter and it worked as good as on traditional Fmount camera. I am realistic, given the history of Nikon and Canon, I don't expect them to share their new lens mount as they cover all the range and contrary to Sony and M4/3 (M4/3 is by nature open) they had some catch up to do, so they willingly open theirs. I personally don't care because I can use a ton of the lens we have in the Fmount range and I guess it will be the same for a lot of Nikon users. In fact I am grateful that gave that choice so I don't have to change system overnight and don't feel pressured at all to invest thousands to renew my lens collection. It give me time to upgrade at my rhythm and need as time goes by and I see where the Z or F mount evolve. They also published their lens roadmap, and 90% of peoples need will be filled in one year. As a Nikon user, I have been very critical about the video side of Nikon cameras even if image wise it was very good, the rest was bad compared to the competion. In the mean time I bought a canon 7d then a gh2 until I got my D750. I have even been tempted by the A73 at the start of the year even if I dislike Sony zombie colors. But credit where credit is due, Nikon has done a great job for video, it is still the only FF camera with 10 bit 422 LOG capable until now. If tomorrow Panasonic brings out a FF gh5 with super AF, I would recommend it over the Z6 for about the same price, I will recommend it to anyone who is not tied to any legacy lens system. By the way, I don't give a shit about your need, its a forum, a place for people to share but not spout nonsence about low info people that live only on sound bite and don't take 5 minutes to do some research and share something constructive to the group. I think Sony has no way than to go 10 bit and even internal by 2020. With Nikon and now Canon offering it, it would be crazy for them not to. I think the next step by 2020 will be 4k 60p and 10 bit internal for FF MILC cameras. If else it would be suicide, I don't see anyone now moving from Nikon moving to them. Canon I am not sure with the a bit underwhelming EOS R spec. But either way, no more free lunch for them in the FF MILC market. Yep, video is becoming at the age of maturity in the DSLR/MILC market cameras and spec won't move that much as in photography. It will only be incremental , but the cameras will be so good that if you can't do nice video with them, it is your fault and not the camera. Until Pana lauch its FF camera, this round I would give to Nikon in the FF MILC and if rummors turn out true about Fuji, the Fuji for the Apsc MILC.

What is mediocre about 80 lens line up + 100 more third party and if you want you can adapt almost any other lens brand because it has the smallest flange. Before talking such nonsence people should take 5 second and inform themselves so as not to look like a fool. And tell me what should have the fanboys have wanted that much more than great body and sealing, great/best evf, FF DX 4k, 120 fps fhd, IBIS, great video AF and 10 bit/nlong with my Ninja flame. All of that for $ 2000? Tell me another camera that does that much for this price nowwwwwwwwwwwww, and not some mythical camera that will come in the future and at this price. Because lets be clear the A73 just came out 6 month ago and I don't think it will be upgraded to A74 for at least a year.

Just asking, do you have some kind of aversion to Nikon. I mean nearly everything you are asking for is on the z6 for about same price as the eos R.

They said that all their new lens where design with video in mind. There are only haters that just want to spread all type of fud about Nikon and video. They have put speed setting for the AF in video where you can speed it up or down, this with 10 bit, ibis, Nlog etc. make for a very powerful package for video shooters. They even added a pin in their tripod mount, might seem mundane but try using a dslr or Mirrorless camera a whole day for pro work and you would see how anoying and distracting when your camera is always spinning. If even this they thought about, then they really took video very very seriously. -

MTF and lens resolution are not the end all be all of what makes a good lens or if it has some charater or not. What it is, is a quantifiable measure that can give you a hint that it is good or bad, it is the same as a car that can do 0-60 in less than4 second, you know it must be very fast. -

In this video, the guy said he used the image right out of the camera without any grading because he wanted to show how the camera worked out of the box. The first time I saw it, I thought that it looked too normal, I meant good but too natural for a music video. -

It is self explanatory, nearly any 10-20 year lens are at least good enough to resolve a 8 megapixel image (4k video). But those lens will show their true potential in still photography because you have much higher megapixel, is that hard to understand? -

Yes, if you watch the video you will see that he used different picture profil, and in the case of the Nlog, he clearly could have underexposed by 1 or 2 stop and prevent the white building from clipping in the background. It Italy in summer and she is in the shadows with a whte building behind. It looks quite good to capture that much DR. -

You are looking for sharpness in a video, you mean 4k video at best which is 8 megapixel while the z7 can do 45 megapixel... -

Tell me how is Sony fanboys right at least for Nikon, oh yes that mystical Sony camera that will have better body, build/sealing, viewfinder, LCD, 10 bit, etc, etc. Everyone is making as if Nikon z7 is the only camera that Nikon has announced. While the z6 has what every reviewer are saying is better ergonomic, build, viewfinder, LCD and 10 bit out, which really makes LOG not just a marketing gimmick for the same price as a A7iii. That same camera which was herald as a game changer in terms of value to money in the FF photo video hybrid camera only six month ago. The only point of contention for now is about autofocus, DPreview goes as far as saying that the Z7 has the best video autofocus in all Dslr/MILC. OH, yes it does not has eye auto focus, I heard even if face detect works extremely well. People on here remind me like those that are still parroting that coal, nuclear or even gas is cheaper than renewable energy because they watch news or analysis 10 years ago and they did not take 5 min to google and see that the cost was divided by ten during this time. Today, perhaps not for long until Canon (very unlikely) and Panasonic release their rumored FF MILC, have the best (might not be in everything) package for a full frame Mirror less camera video/hybrid camera in the z6.

So found a bunch of video in Italian that come from a blog or magazine. So one very good news, and one not so good. The good news is that the 120 fps looks good resolution wise and that slowmo video shows how good the video autofocus is. I mean at normal speed it would be impossible to see any miss. The bad news is rolling shutter, Dpreview already stated that the DX mode was good but full frame one a little bit less. More test would be good to judge it and cannot compare without side by side test. -
It is easy to understand why, many like me have been waiting for a hybrid camera to at least complement our existing Nikon cameras and lens. Video will be in big use on this camera and many pro might not use it as their primary camera , but secondary in the shoulder pack, so the second card slot issue won't be that bad even for critical work.

I understand your point about lens pricing, I think with the bigger mount etc, these lens will prove to be superior to the original Nikon ones (and I guess most brands) and as such with the Sony lens already costing higher, it was easy to alight the Z ones to Sony's. But at least it seems that the adapter is working extremely well, so most will just upgrade the body for now and slowly buy into the new lens as time goes by. I also think that this is just the start of the new lineup. Apsc model at much lower price will come, there was a rumor on Nikonrumors that a Nikon d3400 successor would be coming, but it would be mirror less but with the Fmount. Which make sens in terms of cost of manufacturing and the company for now putting all its energy in Z lens line up.
