  1. E-Infinity. The price of stuff on that site is incredible. For instance, the Olympus zoom I got is around £1200 in stores like WEX - whereas I bought it for £639. Had zero issues with them. It seems there's no VAT included on the product, and even then, it's still cheaper when you compare prices when it's excluded.
  2. Well this sounds bloody fantastic. Just this week I sold my FS5 + Inferno and ordered a GH5, which cost £1319 brand new. I also got the Olympus 45-150 2.8 Pro for £639 brand new, along with some specialised lenses (macro, fisheye etc). Bought a Sandisk UHS-II to test out, very expensive cards. Anything cheaper that works? I really really really want to do some anamorphic stuff, Im a big fan of the look however I've never done it, and I'm not too sure how to enter it nice and smoothly. (I'm not into big rig stuff and too much messing around with workarounds). Anyway really excited. Lots of GH5 videos coming this way!
  3. Canon are very frustrating. Their feature choices between models are so trivial. So intricately, and purposefully strategised to the point of almost complete bafflement. The 1DX II doesn't have C-Log. The 5D IV does. The C300II has 10 bit 422, and crippled high frame rates. The C200 has RAW, has 4k60p and non-cropped 120fps. But doesn't have a 10bit codec. The XC10 has 422. The C200 doesn't. The C300 MK I does, which is 6 years old. You could go on forever. Canon should just combine the C200 and C300 II together and sell that. Now that would be a blockbuster! But they won't. At the end of the day, it is just cameras, with specs and buttons and other stuff. We're actually lucky to have so many options in order to tell good stories. But still....
  4. I've tested my Sigma Arts and Samyangs on the GH5 - loved it! The 18-35mm especially... The Leica 42.5mm is compelling but I don't have a good reason to spend that kind of money on this lens, unless I went nuts on micro 43 photography. I have the Zhiyun Crane V1 and love it with my A6500. Will test alongside the GH5 and see if it can perform anywhere near close to the A6500's pretty great AF. I had a GH3 for 3 years (which at the time, I was in awe of 1080p 50fps!).....so I'm excited about this kit, as I now have far more creative options. Unfortunately, having to wait for V-log - doesn't arrive for over a month!
  5. Thanks for the suggestions - I've tried the 12-60 and didn't like it. The f4 at 60mm isn't a look I like. I'm keeping my A6500, it's just too useful to let go. Looking to keep a variation under my belt anyway. (come on Canon, where are you? Haha.) After a bit of hands-on and to suit my creative needs, I've gone with these so far: 1. GH5 Camera Body Because, yep, obvious. 2. Metabones Speedbooster XL My EF glass gets a new life! 3. GH5 Battery Grip Ergonomically it's great, and it does mean you can run all day (and have a more "pro" looking camera as silly as it is.) 4. 3 Extra Batteries and Charger Because, yep, important. 5. Olympus 40-150mm f2.8 Pro Lens This was a hard choice. The reason I chose this over the 35-100 is because the buick quality and focus ring is far better. Plus it's sexy for stills and has a massive reach. Can put on a 1.4x convertor too! It's bigger, but I bought this for £630 brand new - in the UK at WEX it's around £1200! 6. Olympus 60mm Macro f2.8 Chosen for creative reasons. I love the get close to subjects to get that ultra-fine detail - seems like a good choice. went native as I could use it for stills too. 7. Olympus 8mm Fisheye Pro f1.8 They say it's pricey for a fisheye - however if anybody looks at my work you will often see a lot of distorted looks. I love getting close to a subject and throwing the background out of focus. I can use a Fisheye Fixer tool if the effect is too much aswell. Also I'll be doing a lot of sports stuff soon and fisheye is a great tool for that. 8. Saramonic Transmitter / Receiver / Lavalier For my new marketing campaign, there will be a lot of Vlogging going on. Not your typical Youtube stuff. 9. Saramonic Radio Mic Again, I'll be doing on-the-pot interviews with clients / talent etc for my marketing pieces. QUESTION MARKS? Memory cards (hope to use the 400Mbps update and see if it tickles). Anamorphic (I think this will be a later rather than now kinda thing - it will always be pretty niche). XLR Audio Attachment (big difference, useful?)
  6. @IronFilm and co, I lost this thread... Thank you for the information. I was actually looking at some Saramonic stuff but will do more research if you say you had a bad experience. Might be a one-off or actually a thing. I can trust Sony though with the Sony UWP-D11. Need a good wireless radio mic though for on-the-spot interviewing.
  7. I saw an article on this recently. Seems like an obvious idea, however i'd be concerned about the battery life on the phone. I know this too well when using the Osmo, which literally kills your phone in minutes. (I strapped a USB power bank to the back of it).
  8. Thanks Andrew, appreciated. I know that WEX Photographic have a promo on at the moment for a half price Ultra when bought with a GH5. My only APS-C lens is Sigma 18-35. Only issue I see with the Olympus is f4. I want the AF for stills really with a big range, just for the sake of messing around, but would use it 85% for video. Any experience with the Olympus 40-150mm? It's larger but impressive.... Yes No. 3 - the XLR thing that replaces the YAGHYAGHYAGHYAGH. just heard mixed stuff about it.
  9. Hello. I'm going to buy the GH5, my FS5 has gone. My Shogun Inferno has gone. The decision was down to "liberation", alongside easier camera movement, smaller footprint, and using any lens with IBIS. I'll rent an FS7, RED or whatever when the job needs it. What are your opinions of these? 1. Speedbooster Ultra or XL? (For Sigma Art and other EF lenses). 2. Battery Grip (to make it look a bit bigger/pro for stupid clients - when required. Silly I know!). 3. The hot shoe audio thing. Audio is important. (Radio miss, lav mics etc). 4. The 35-100 II (I want a super stabilised big zoom reach lens). 5. Not sure I'd use a 12-35 when I have the Sigma 18-35. Still curious. But needed? Erm... 6. SmallHD Focus or any other similar product. 7. The Atomos Sumo with hot shoe adapter (ok, that was a joke). 8. Anamorphic. Keen to try out but don't want to mess around too much with hacks and such. SLR Magic?
  10. Cool. I'm in no way disregarding your results using a Canon DSLR however in my experience of using sharpening tools I've found that Sony and Panasonic images respond far better - any reason why this may be? Alos I've only found Finisher and the DaVinci resolve built-in sharpening tools to be any good, amongst native and third party plugins. Some of them do something hideous to the image, like it's drawing black extruded lines around the edges of the subject. I've been using Finisher since 2012 and it literally transforms the perceived resolution of the image, Soft detail appears pin sharp. Fantastic for slow motion modes, where soft images are common. I tried Finisher on the 4k image from the A6500 for a laugh.
  11. There's a plugin that gives some kind of resolution voodoo which I use for 120fps clips. It's called Finisher. (also known as Crumplepop Finisher). The plugin dramatically increases the perceived resolution with clever sharpening. I've found it doesn't work too well on Canon DSLR's, but is awesome for Panasonic and Sony.
  12. Like @ntblowz said, the A7SII cropped slo-mo is borderline awful. It's full of aliasing artefacts! (I know this as I use the camera). Vlog is not awful either. Just as steep as Slog. It's a tricky profile but a lot of fun getting results!
  13. To get nice Sony footage, you have to grade to the death. I enjoy it so it doesn't bother me much. I do like the FS5 though - it's a very robust camera with loads of options. Very modular. Electronic ND. Hard to top wrong with it. I'm just disappointed in the very very minor quality jump of the external Raw to ProRes 4k, other than that, there's not many cameras that can beat the FS5 on value.
  14. The A6500 has a special 4k mojo. It beats the FS5 4k ProRes recording with: Better resolution image - more detailed. Better colour rendition - much more pleasing and easier to grade. Better "motion cadence" - the FS5 misses that cinematic, progressive feel. The A6500 does too - but not as much. Comparable dynamic range - the A6500 really holds up. (Slog2). The FS5 holds shadows a little teeny bit better. Also 1080p and rolling shutter is superior to the A6500. The rolling shutter in the A6500 in 4k nearly ruins the camera. it's a little beast on a gimbal, but a disaster above 50mm when handheld. The clear statement here is that the FS5 4k ProRes from a recorder is nothing special, barely any better than the internal recording and beaten by the A6500 & A7SII at 4k. The A7SII 4k is really nice and a totally different look in full frame. Hard to say what's "better" compared to the A6500. The FS5 external recordings for me are very disappointing considering the price and additional hard drive space required. The 4k 100fps burst though looks awesome compared to the HD 100fps. That's a plus!!
  15. I don't have any issue with blogs / websites making money from ads / sponsors, as it takes a lot of time to run and therefore I can understand where there would need to be some kind of financial reward. The issue is when the tone, voice and opinions of the content is actually massively affected by the relationships the blogger has, in order not to piss them off and lose their relationships. This is where information get inaccurate, biased and untruthful. Which none of us need. NoFilmschool has turned into a curator of other existing articles and also acts as a general "news" site, whereas others are massively affected by their sponsorship relationships. EOSHD is the only site that's kept this intact.
  16. No, that's not what it's for. Usually on shoots we don't have much time to eat, so what you do is dangle some sausages in front of your mouth so you stay fed. If you're a veggie, you can use carrots instead. Also, the bit at the back is actually a mini microwave, so you can heat up some cofffee for your assistant.
  17. I use the video autofocus on the A6500 for gimbal work and it works really, really well. You can definitely depend on it. DPAF is ridiculous though. Also manual focus is an art - I still use that for 98% of shots.
  18. They have a deal with them, something about pro hardware for Mac Pros.
  19. Glad to hear these "issues" aren't widespread. I'm certain you can also zoom in like Sonys clear image zoom with quality loss, have you tried this feature? Also, I like to experiment with old vintage lenses - unfortunately these are hard to use above 50mm on the A6500 handheld due to the severe rolling shutter - the GH5 seems ideal for these experiments. (Much better RS and IBIS). The SLRmagic is intriguing - I would need to find out if it's more of an asset than a pain. Your experience sounds positive.
  20. I have an A6500. How are you finding the GH5 in comparison?
  21. Cheers for your points. I don't find it that difficult to grade, but that's 5 years of dealings with Slog. Those who are new to the format may find it tricky, certainly with the bizarre white balance results that never seems truly balanced. The lenses I've used are Sigma ART's. Granted, when I've used a Helios 58mm or something, I expect the image not to resolve to it's prime performance. The A6500 with the same lenses has a better image than the Inferno's 4k with FS5 - we know the A6500 has special 4k voodoo anyway. Also, I'm selling my Inferno. I like it but I'm trying to get more compact and portable for future shoots.
  22. Cool. So have you not experienced IBIS / Dual IS issues with these updated lenses? I've used the original 12-35 and 35-100 on the GH3, I remember them well and enjoyed using them. True that the Olympus is much larger, yet it has a bigger range and better focus / zoom mechanisms. I would need to see it in the flesh. I do know what you mean about keeping m43's as intended - the sheer liberation from using a system so compact and high quality is a huge attraction. I actually used my friends GH5 just for one shot of a singer playing on a piano last week witnthe Sigma 18-35 and Speedbooster, loved it. Also the clip looks awesome. On the SLR Magics, I'll keep up to date with them and dive into anamorphic when I get the overpowering urge.
  23. I've had this kit for nearly a year now, so it's time to review it. Thought I'd share a mini review from some notes I've written down. Intro I've been mostly a Sony shooter since 2012 when the FS700 came out. Got the FS5 as an A-cam all rounder, and soon updated it with the raw update and Inferno. Mostly shoot in Slog2 alongside other Sony alphas like the A6500 and A7SII. Best Bits Electronic ND!! Nice ergonomics. Lots of HFR options. Internal XAVC-L HD holds up really well. Really nice monitor (Inferno) - easy to use and quality screen. Continuous slow motion is useful for longer scenes. 4k 100fps - looks great! Raw images look very thick and tasty. Worst Bits Menus are complicated. Internal 4k is nothing to shout about. White Balance, especially in Slog, never looks right (Colour can either be too cool or greenish yellow. ) Often difficult to grade images (but can get great results). Inferno monitor battery life is very poor. Camera is heavier, bigger and harder to use with the Inferno. Continuous slow motion is very noisy. Raw to ProRes 4k is only incrementally better than the Internal XAVC-L HD. EVF viewfinder seems a bit too small. Perspective The idea behind FS-RAW and the external recorder is very attractive, however some users may end up being disappointed with the experience. This is a very stable and reliable camera setup, however if you like to move fast and have a lot of freedom with your tools, this is likely not the right setup for you. To use the FS-RAW update is expensive, and I've found that if you don't plan to shoot RAW but ProRes instead - the difference isn't worth the extra money. It might be to some for special purposes, however I didn't feel the benefit enough. The A6500 beats the FS5 raw to ProRes ProRes image in 4k. Not so much in 1080p. A lot of us think that the more lucrative the setup, the better our images will be. It's definitely possible. But as our smaller, cheaper camera have limitations - the bigger boys also come with significant limitations too. You need more crew, more hard drives, more muscles, bigger tripods, bigger gimbals, bigger sliders, bigger batteries, and a much bigger wallet. If you're thinking of "upgrading" from your mirrorless, be prepared for a much different experience. For me, I do find purpose in using this setup. For some shoots, there's not a better option. But for the majority - being more compact is definitely more favoured. Here's a video I produced on the FS5 with the Inferno:
  24. Curious. Firstly, how are you finding the V2 lenses? It's been mentioned on this forum that the Dual IS with these lenses has errors or something? I've been considering the Olympus 40-150mm as an alternative. Also, very interested in the anamorphic features. I've never jumped into this as adapted lenses either seem too cumbersome or the quality is too compromised. SLR Magic anamorphic products seem to be the "solution", but again, I've read a lot of negative feedback about them making the image too soft. I love the anamorphic look, however for me to get into it - the solution would need to be reliable, offer a significant (positive) difference in the aesthetic and not be a pain in the ass. (and not make the image look like SD). Nice shots btw
  25. I love to see people making videos with very little tools. That said, I thought the above video was shot well but it seems really blurry / out of focus which harmed my viewing experience. p.s I think the quality of Cinema5D has reduced quite significantly over the last couple of years.
