  1. It's certainly a tough one. I think I'll hold off until the Oly is released on try them out in the camera shop. The Fuji is more appealing for stills, but I can't help be pulled by the Oly IBIS for video.
  2. Funny that you mention the EM1 II, I'm also looking at that camera aswell due to t's stills capabilities in a small body and also the promising video with the best 5-axis on the market. I was looking at John Brawley's EM5-II music video, bloody hell he's made that camera look awesome. Talented guy. I can see the nice color popping through. The Oly does have more appeal where video is concerned. It might be a useful video cam aswell as a nice stills camera. More expensive than I'd thought it'd be, and the lenses are also expensive. I liked the look of the M5, but the video samples look absolutely atrocious. Although I'm mainly looking at stills, having great video as a feature would be highly beneficial. Yes I've thought about the 80D too - definitely a contender if I ultimately find video not to be very important with EF lenses, however I do enjoy the small package and speed that mirrorless offers.
  3. I had the GH3 for 3 years and the 1080p image was massively superior to pretty much every other DSLR camera at the time. I still use 1080p mostly on the FS5 and DJI X5R - the benefit of 4k is negligible if you are finishing in 1080p. I've found that because of the focus on 4k, manufacturers are putting out poor 1080p modes - which are actually worse than what they were before 4k hit the market. The A7SII for example, has a worse 1080p mode than the original. The issue with 4k in the lower budget cams now is that the bitrates are pretty low, there's worse rolling shutter issues and most cameras are limited to 4k 30p as the highest frame rate. 1080p is now the forgotten resolution - where 10bit and better color has been left behind in favour of more pixels. That said, the options we have now are ridiculously awesome. No excuses.
  4. I believe the 16-50mm isn't stabilised which is a shame. I'm not convinced of any alternatives to the X-T2.... I could go Sony but I just find their cameras really boring for stills use. Not sure why. Just feels a little vacant.
  5. Haha, well it's looking likely! I don't mind getting a bit of Fuji glass as I can see them really improving video in their cameras in the near future. I'm more looking at the XF 16-50mm, the 50-140mm, 18-55mm etc.
  6. Hello there. For video, I currently own an FS5 and DJI Osmo RAW but I don't really have anything on the stills front, or video in a small mirrorless package. I have mostly EF lenses. BUT... I'm thinking of getting the Fujifilm X-T2 for mainly stills stuff and a bit of video. It will be a device mostly for pleasure and personal stuff. The thing that draws me to this is the colour (which is just beautiful), the body and the compact size. I'd be looking at a couple of XF lenses that cover wide to telephoto with OS. As I'd be looking for optimal autofocus performance, I don't think I'll adapting my EF glass unless the performance was very close for autofocus via an adapter. I know you guys talk about the Fuji cameras a lot, and I don't them them that well. I've had a play with an X-T1 for 5 seconds. I'm just asking for any kind recommendations about the Fuji system, such as preferable lenses, OS performance, battery grip... anything really. Thanks!
  7. This simply is not true. This is the internet talking. Apple did something quite clever in that they made FCPX accessible for amateurs or those using iMovie - with the idea to progress them into the professional features of FCPX and keep them there. Premiere looks more daunting, but why does it have to be that way to be "professional?" Why settle for complicated when you don't have to? The term "professional" gets thrown around a lot and doesn't actually mean anything in context to these NLE's. I make a living out of video work. Would I be any less of a professional if I thought iMovie was the best editor for the job? If it was revealed that Pulp Fiction was edited on Windows Movie Maker, would that make it any less of a film? What matters is the end result, and any of these programs will help get you there. That said, and I know Axel commented on this, is that FCPX still gets dismissed by many, even though they won't use it, because FCPX goes against the norm with a new style of editing video. Change is hard, but in this case, I think change is better. Much better. There's no denying that FCPX is the most modern editor of all, and some of us understand this next-generation change of magnetic timelines and rich metadata media management. Some of us like it the usual way.
  8. This is controversial-ish, but I feel after looking at Premiere that in comparison to FCPX it's pretty "old-school". Not that old school is bad. FCPX is clearly a lot more modern with the way it's constructed and performs. More of the critical non-users are bashing it again. Ridiculous really. It's an ace editor, and in my opinion, the best.
  9. This looks awesome. You can't doubt how great FCPX is now, after it was (and continues to be) trashed by others. It's fast, modern, intuitive & powerful - vastly superior to FCP7.
  10. It would probably have the electronic ND of the FS5, external raw without the add-on and another big "exclusive" feature not seen in any of their other cameras. The other big feature could be something to do with autofocus, a modular design, high sensitivity... can't think of much else over the original since that is still very, very current.
  11. I still have the X5R as I use it on the Osmo a lot. There's just something about being able to whip out a very powerful camera for gimbal shots and use it almost immediately. A few videos have been released with the X5R footage now although they aren't perfect - the DJI colour science is much different to anything I've used before. The firmware has improved but the SSD reliability with Mac is infuriating (support told me there would be a workflow overhaul coming soon). I shot twice on the FS5 this weekend using the internal 1080p - at only 50mbps it grades and sharpens up really well - although I'd like the image to have a thicker feel. There's absolutely no need for the 8 bit 4k. I'm going to get the Shogun Inferno next to unlock some beastly geekery.
  12. I'm sure Sony could wait a bit longer to release this. That said, the FS7 is a great camera release and so many people are using it. i could only image an incremental update if it's true (variable ND) - they have an F55 and F5 to protect. If they get to F65/F35 color and have better autofocus though - I don't see any reason to have a Canon C-series. Looking forward to using my new FS5 at the weekend. Hooray!!
  13. Sensible. I just sold my Inspire 1 because I found myself never having time to use it. I had an "epiphany" in that my focus will be primarily on image aesthetics online - lighting, camera, lenses, colour. Hated selling it, but I had to. FS5 arrives today.... looking to get an Atomos Shogun Inferno next.....
  14. Absolutely. There's a certain type of freedom of expression you get with a camera like the FS5 - it can do pretty much everything you want it to, it doesn't look like a bazooka and leaves you and your post skills to get it to shine. I like the individuality of this and the grading work pays big dividends with your skill set. On the lower cost end of the scale, the upcoming GH5 seems like the ideal choice (on paper). I honestly don't think anyone could need anything else for a very long time. Having both these units would have you covered for everything. We all love our gear, and new gear announcements (especially cameras) can be very distracting - especially for Sony owners. When you have a camera that does pretty much everything you'll ever need - the distractions aren't even worth it. I'm with you on the Terra 5k - it looks awesome. I'd only get one if I was absolutely rolling in cash though. I could get all sorts of cool lenses that last decades instead!
  15. It's been pretty tough choosing what to get as my company A-cam, and after a few runs, I've opted for the FS5. When it comes to image quality (and I only know the FS5 internally), the FS5 isn't near the top of my list. What matters to me, most of all, is making content, and telling stories. As much as I'd want an Ursa Mini 4.6k, a RED Raven, C300 II or Terra 5k- with the FS5 versatility wins. Why did I get it then? Lightweight and modular - saves the back and can be used on my DSLR grip gear. Use run n gun style bare bones or beast it up with an external recorder - caters for pretty much all types of work. Slow motion - currently unmatched at this price point. No slow motion crop too! E-mount - massive range of adaptable lenses. Variable ND - very very useful. Going back to image quality - although the initial palette isn't quite as stunning as other models in this range - I think Sony get a hammering online as there are countless videos posted on Vimeo and Youtube where Slog has been badly exposed and graded. If you put in your research to handling Slog, the results can be spectacular.
  16. Tried out the FS5 bare bones and really liked it. Set to use with 7Q+ on rental soon. Not interested in the C500. Comparison video... I'm probably one of the least scientific shooters on this forum. As long as it looks good and does what I want, that's all I need. No pixel peeping necessary.
  17. I contacted them and they said it will be in the next firmware update in 4-5 weeks: "Hi Oliver, for the FS5 we can do the HD video burst mode now (120p as 16s burst & 240p as 8s burst), there is a bug with the 4K DCI Raw burst (120p as 4s burst) that will be fixed for the next firmware release. For continuous record we will do the HD/2K Raw to ProRes/DNxHR at 100/120/200/240p at the next firmware. Following that we will do Raw CDNG up to 4K 30p and 2K 120p. Keep in mind all our Raw is free, our monitor is 1500nit & HDR, no 4Gb file size limit, XLR audio etc but I'm sure you've done your research. Best resources are the specs list on the website or in the range brochure for everything else.”
  18. Further to my post today, I've just fond out that the Shogun Inferno WILL be able to match the 7Q in recording features: Continuous HFR in 4-5 weeks. 4k120fps burst in next firmware update. RAW to ProRes up to 4k60p available now. The only thing it won't do is DNG at 240fps, however I wouldn't use that anyway as the files sizes would be ridiculous. I used the FS5 bare bones on a shoot the other day, and the image is fantastic if your grading and exposure is decent. It seems like the most versatile package on the market - great for point and shoot/ run n gun and beastly for higher end commercial work with the external.
  19. So the Shogun Inferno is shipping, yet I still don't know whether it matches the 7Q+ features for FS-RAW. The spec sheet comes across as "probably", can't find anything that nails what the Shogun Inferno can do with the FS5.
  20. Yes a lot of us shoot handheld. If I'm not using a gimbal or slider for special movement, its handheld all the way. Budgets for work are crashing down because technology is so accessible, and handheld not only saves a lot of time lugging around support gear, it also heightens creativity as you can get the shoot you want easier, anywhere, at all sorts of angles. Either the Olympus or the GH5 will be the one for me, where fast, low footprint, high quality handheld work is needed. We'll see how they stack up.......
  21. If this all stacks up and it has IBIS in all 4k modes... this is a must-have camera.
  22. To quote myself, DJI support said they are working on a fix for the mentally ill DJI SSD errors, and that focus peaking will be coming in the next firmware update for use with the DJI Focus Handwheel
  23. True, I wouldn't use RAW that often. Just on those big "money shots" where image quality is paramount. I'm liking the power in those ProRes files, downloaded some to play with - fantastic to grade. Just need to find out if the Atomos can match the 7Q for FS-RAW capabilities, then I think I'll pick this package up
  24. I'm having a major camera overhaul to cover various types of needs - my work has got a lot more mixed this year and I'm finding the requirement for a more versatile set of tools, on hand at any time. I've been doing my research and I'm not convinced the 1DX II is the right choice at this time.
  25. This looks like an ideal run and gun, exploring camera - something I'm looking at that doesn't cost a bomb and can do very well stabilised video and stills. No word on whether the GH5 will have IBIS? I like the new Olympus zoom, besides it being f4, but how do the Olympus cameras play with electronic EF lenses? Is autofocus performance decent? How about stabilisation? (Such as Sigma ART 18-35mm?)
