The thing I like most about Kinefinity is that they very obviously listen to what filmmakers want in their cameras. They've literally given everything you could ask for with the Terra, including a really decent, accessible price. Mother camera brands are largely segmented with their product range, and therefore got crippled one way or another - such as the FS5's "10 bit" 50mbps HD XAVC-L. Simply not good enough. Full frame with the KINE Enhancer too. This could be the best camera release in ages.

I wouldn't dismiss the technology until it's been experienced. I remember seeing Avatar in 3D on the IMAX, and although the story left a lot to be desired, the visual experience was outstanding at the time. Move seen 3D films since that just look a bit warped and frankly, stuck on as a gimmick. So I don't bother with them anymore. Hobbit was the worst thing ever in 48fps. I don't know why they thought that looked good. It really didn't. Let's give Ang a chance though, who knows eh? I'm all up for extending the experience to new levels. As long as story comes first

Looks like most of the major blogs have now based an article on the Terra including Cinema5d (EOSHD hasn't yet), good stuff!
-
My feelings exactly - the FS5 really needs a 5Q or even an Odyssey box. These are unlikely to exist anytime soon. I expect the Terra to have a much better image, and the form factor isn't clunky. It will work on my current grip easily. With the FS5 I'm attracted to the cool ND feature, but it's looking like a Terra of a year for me all going well.

Hopefully - I guess that's also the issue with the Craft camera. The images don't exist yet. But they do for the KineMAX sensor. Dan Chung doesn't seem that bothered, but Rodney Charters seems impressed. They need to get their cameras into the hands of more filmmakers in Europe and USA. If the footage holds up for the 5k, I'll be one of them (that's if I don't go for the FS5 + 7Q with it's awesome ND feature). I made a pre-order for the Ursa Mini 4.6k but I want smaller. I need to use a new A-cam on my current grip gear. Smaller is the future.

At least someone is doing it. Another day has gone by and still very very little coverage for Kinefinity, even though they are releasing one of the most intriguing cameras in a long time. Odd.

You need a V-mount for the KINEback. The camera also comes with the KINEgrip which goes on the right side of the camera and takes Sony batteries. Bit like RED do with REDvolt batteries and a side grip. The key thing is you can strip down the camera to a small block that weighs hardly anything. I remember seeing a couple of film films shot on the original KineRAW S35 and i was gobsmacked. The image was timeless and very organic looking. Clear with a lovely light grain. I prefer that over the Ursa Mini 4.6k which seems like a very powerful, very modern HDR-like image. Whatever floats your boat, but I prefer the Kine look.

I might have missed this Matthias, but what compelled you to buy the JVC? How does it fit into your work? I'll be interested to hear your thoughts. Looking at a video venture for someone that the JVC could be good for.

I hope there's no sponsor politics involved, that would be a shame. Although very unlikely. Even EOSHD hasn't bothered yet, and this blog is usually very informative about Kine cameras. Anyway, I hope Kinefinity deliver this product as advertised. This and the FS5 + 7Q are on my A-cam watch list.

I'm really surprised that barely any of the major blogs are posting articles about the Kinefinity Terra - especially as it's the ONLY cinema camera at NAB with a lot of promise. I did notice that Cinema5d reported on the Terra shortly after it was announced, but they have pulled the article and not mentioned it since.

I would also like to see this. For example, most LUTS are unusable with the 120fps mode on A7SII. It's like mini Lego bricks start dancing everywhere once applied. I've seen some articles claim the 120fps quality is the same as 25fps. It isn't at all. Not a chance. Curious to see what an Atomos Shogun would do to improve this and all other available frame rates. I think the work done by Omeneo here is interesting. I use the A7SII though and I'm unsure if the colour differs from the A7RII or A7SI.

Thanks for doing this. Two things: 1. What on earth do they mean about having part of the license? Are they working on getting a full license? 2. Full sensor readout for ProRes only... Do they know how long the FW update will be after release? I see the GS isn't working in a model yet. I hope this doesn't end up being a Blackmagic style face palm. These questions are really important and helpful so thank you for doing that. The closest thing I see to this camera is the FS5 with 7Q, however the organic timeless look of the Kinefinity cameras is something I've listed over for a long time!

Sony FS5 firmware update version 2.0 - FS RAW costs $600 / 500 euros
Oliver Daniel replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I've been hoping for this. Seems kind HD of backwards putting a 7Q on the FS5, then again I'm perfectly happy with my 5" Sony monitor on the A7SII hotshoe. Mite a shame the FS5 can't have XAVC-I internal. XAVC-L is poor in comparison. Looking forward to some FS5 RAW stuff! -
Cool! I hope you got far with my questions!

My prediction of a custom build camera was right then. Reminds me of the Apertus Axiom project. Other than that, seems really cool. I just hope it's going to be reliable. That sensor is everything....

Sony FS5 firmware update version 2.0 - FS RAW costs $600 / 500 euros
Oliver Daniel replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Some people will think the FS5 is worth it due to the ergonomics alone. The FS700 is much worse in this regard. However, the FS700 does have a slightly better image and will last another 5 years on the market. A true classic. Considering the financial outlay, for the money I would be looking at the Kinefinity Terra. I'm surprised that there's been no articles in this camera yet on EOSHD. Can't wait to see footage. -
I think the marketing campaign is working. People are wagging their tongues and fingertips about this mystery newcomer. Even though a lot of the discussions are harshly negative, the talk is still going on and people seem frustrated that they don't know what the product is. The irritation comes from a need for information. I love having new makers of camera around to rustle a few feathers. Everybody deserves a chance. Judge when the product is in your own hands.
-
The topic here is a bit lost. What are we predicting with the Craft Camera? I'll say it might be a "build your camera" approach with the Apertus Axiom concept, but with locked firmware.

The Mini 4.6k looks more modern to me. Whether that's good or bad is subjective. The Terra has many benefits over the Ursa Mini 4.6k too - such as higher resolutions, higher FPS, much smaller, much lighter, much more modular, switchable shutter (the irony!), can be speed boosted, mount changeable, can be powered with smaller Sony batteries, SSD's...... If the image quality is up there with the Ursa Mini 4.6k, which I believe it will be (seeing previous footage from other models) - it's almost a no-brainer for many cinematic shooters.
-
Wow!! That has to be the coolest looking camera I've ever seen. So small yet so much power! Brilliant. I really really hope the image quality doesn't dissappoint.
-
Yep, I got the email too. Curious to see what new players come up with, although their very secretive and vague approach is a bit odd. Maybe they haven't got the patent for the technology and need to protect it, who knows. The camera announcement of the year has to be the Kinefinity Terra so far. I hope this Craft Camera sends a few waves too!

What is the truth about RED's and BLACK's cameras ?
Oliver Daniel replied to TVDino's topic in Cameras
You should also look into the Kinefinity Terra, or a battle tested Kinemini 4k for that matter. -
What will Cinema EOS lineup be after NAB 2016?
Oliver Daniel replied to photographer-at-large's topic in Cameras
And it's not far off the price of the new 1DX II. There's also the DJI X5R to compete against here. That's a very interesting camera - keen to see what happens in the pistol grip gimbal market. -

This camera is the "winner" so far for overpriced Canon products. Insanely high price.
