The problem with phone cameras is that their lenses are basically glorified pinholes. As soon as you make the lens brighter, it grows bigger and needs to be further away from the sensor because the pixels can't take it. Curved sensors will help to make the lenses shorter and brighter, but you will never break the rule that says that for the same equivalent image, the pupils must have the same size, a 50 1.4 equivalent lens on a phone, needs a entrance 3.5cm pupil = giant compared to the phone. Obviously you don't need a 50 1.4 for almost anything, but it's a limitation. Another thing is that small sensors have worse/smaller DOF (yes, right, trust me :)) so you will never want anything that is not a glorified pinhole. The future in phones comes with software and better sensor performance, it will be a different tool with different looks as traditional photography.

I saw a post on this forum where a guy debunked the sensor size myth. Another guy said that the smaller the sensor, the smaller the equivalent lenses. Cellphones are the future, Imagine a camera the size of your fingertip shooting IMAX quality pictures.
-
Why would you do that? There is no difference whatsover between formats, the size of the sensor is totally irrelevant.
-
Well, if there is no global shutter... Why bother getting one?
-
Oeoeoeoe, now let the early adopters beta test
-
That lens has no image stabilization, so it will be a rolling shutter fest.
-
I find it amusing that label themselfs as professionals (I guess if you get paid you can call yourself pro) don't see the difference. If you read articles about 65mm film on ASC you will hear real professionals talking about the differences and qualities. Ever since I found the actual proof, I just lean back and laugh.

@Andrew Reid How is the rollingshutter on the new fuji?
-
Cool story bro,but it doesn't make the rolling shutter or overheating any better (for those who care, like the posters on this forum).
-
Haha, anyway, if someone might be interested here they talk about it http://www.livescience.com/51787-why-cats-have-vertical-pupils.html

Some article I read, don't have the reference now. Don't get me wrong, the oval aperture is not making that medium format, he is using a digital leaf back that costs quite some money (unless you are extremely lucky)
-
The oval aperture thing is quite neat, cats use it to distinguish distance better by using the better dof separation that it gives (or at least that's what science says).

Yesterday I was browsing through your flickr and when I saw the latest images, I was all like -what kind of invention has that bastard come up with to make the helios look like medium format-, but then I saw it they were in fact medium format

Point and Shoot with DOF adapter :=)

The same way unregulated markets can produce slaves, regulated markets can do it too.
-
The Chinese have been slaves since the beginning of history -according to marx-
-
Remember that everything you buy is being produced by slaves in a distopian-communist country.
-
You didn't debunker it :p I even picked out the fullframe sample for you. I finally went through the math thing and there is actually a difference between formats, I will eventually post the demonstration. As for Brian's comment, I think he doesn't have to waste his time, as he knows a thing or two about lenses.

Heh, google sent me to some fake quotes.

That's what they keep saying. The far edges of lenses usually are worse, by cropping a little you avoid showing this (1.3x) But when cropping 2x you are blowing up the image way too much, showing all the nasty stuff in the center. You don't see people shooting 6x7 on fullframe.
-
Well, your vintage glass was designed for 35mm photo, not for m43 crop. The speedbooster will cure some of the uglyness, hiding aberrations beyond the circle of confusion of 1080p.
-
You can use your old cheap dslr with zoom as an reflective and spotmeter. A sekonic l-208 will give you reflective and incident light metering.
-
Bahahaha,so I even was even considering the correct lens

nex5,chinese lens turbo, some vintage 50mm prime.
