  1. Andrews reviews are so personal and so far away from that kind of product advertisment type of reviewing that if he gets anything from manufacturers you would have to congratulate him. If you ever see him talking in a review about how stressful his week has been flying from LA to Bejing and back to London after a short stop in Vancouver to shoot some super secret VIP stuff, and that he has made this review about the new overpriced follow focus in the airport hotel room, and make you feel like that if you buy that shit it will make you suck less, maybe then it will time to ask questions or stop giving a shit.
  2. Big children with fancy cameras is not something that benefits humanity, from an materialistic point of view.
  3. If we take it exactly it's something like when you state an general annoying fact, and someone susceptible gets angry and feels insulted because he finds himself described by that fact. In that case you would say "quien se pica, ajos come", meaning that in the end there is something true to it. Anyway, even if it's not exactly the case here because it's obviously an direct attack, there is always some resemblance if the affected person gets offended. Lets take Jesus for example, in Europe there was a time where interpretating ,for example, pedofile behaviour in the words of "let the children come to me", would have ment the death penalty. The fun resides that the "base pillar" of a society is , viewed in a plausible way, just a pedofile sect leader who is worshipped as the son of god, and also as god himself, milleniums after his death. Believe it or not some people enjoy Satire. It's not so much about freedom of speech, but about the way we think, and I don't see why a whole society should change their way of thinking after so much success. As an English man you know how important it is.
  4. In Spain we say: "Quien se pica, ajos come"
  5. 24,50,105 most flexible setup for me.
  6. sigma 24-105 f4, I don't have the lens but it seems like a good substitute for all the primes when shooting fullframe at daylight.
  7. Does it also have this "field curvature" on the vertical axis?
  8. I was actually suprised how bad I found every aspect of Gone girl. Eternal 163minutes where nodoby seems to have noticed that everything is muted and passes along without touching the spectator. But hey, maybe that's just me, or maybe that's the feeling they wanted to give "shit happens, nobody gives a shit"
  9. There are these people that have studied computer science and make computer programs or look for solutions if you pay them , tell your boss to spend some money.
  10. Seems like a good price, I would buy it but I'm not shooting anything right now.
  11. Another curious thing is the danger of doing more or a better job than what was asked for. When I was a student I used to make renders for some terrible Architects who had no Idea about what's important in Architectural representation. Everytime I did a better job than the shit they were asking for ,they acted like they were paying for something they hadn't ask for, even with the price agreed before the actual job (which was way too much if you compare it with today, but at that time the working generation had no idea about renders) Obviously there are people who know what they are doing, so try to figure out what case it is.

  13. The a5100 has a better codec. Btw, it's called product placement.
  14. I will pass on the question about the exact lens turbo model because I don't own any, but on the forum there have been a lot of talk about them, try to use the search. I think the easiest way to answer your question about the camera/lens combination would be for you to post some samples of other's work that match what you want to do.
  15. I guess the limiting factor will be maximum recording time. The d5300 has a max. of 20-30min. Remember that you can buy a chinese lens turbo and some cheap 35-50mm manual focus lens and put that on any m43 camera which will give you background blur for cheap.

    GH4 12fps RAW video.

Nobody is going to see the prores file :p

    GH4 12fps RAW video.

I think if you're after that kind of look the h264 should work out just fine. Record with a totally off white balance and play with curves, no need to deal with all those raw files.
  18. Dual focus is already a pain in the ass with a big focus ring, having to turn a small knob or an allen key must be hell.
  19. You don't want to use that lens without the FM focus module. Get the bh kowa, even it it costs more (I don't mean the broken one).
  20. Look at this advertisement I just came across on photo.net
  21. Quicktime has the gamma problem with h264 files.
  22. This reminds me I still have to buy a distagon 50 2.8, I just hate to pay the hasselblad prices. Anyway, I just want to add that it's not only that these lenses have less aberrations but that the dof area is "denser". A zeiss FF lens might have the pop, but the dof area is still faster fading so you will have trouble getting 3D objects into focus, on larger formats the dof area is thicker, no matter what your dof calculations say. But remember, this is not something you only need for tiny little dof shots, this is something that comes handy always. For example a 25mm shot at medium distance @ 2.8 on fullframe, the dof is pretty wide, but there is still a gentle background blur. On medium format (50, f1/5.6) you will have very much better contrast on the focused areas, and the slight blur in background and transitions will be very smooth, not nervous. This is something that translates to most common cases you encounter shooting and gives an overall much better look. So it's not about shallow or shallower dof, but about the quality of rendering. These images are very plastic and lively, opposed to the cheaply fuzzy impression of smaller or much smaller formats. Once you notice it's really a game changer, or how a polish friend says: Once you had a black, there's no way back. camera porn:
