Shooting sports stills with anamorphic: Suggestions?
Nikkor replied to Ryu Voelkel's topic in Cameras
Connect your D4 to a television and do the tests, it will save you a lot of nerves. If the anamorphic is out of alignment ,what I have observed is that the object you are focusing on will be stretched vertically and as soon as you are coming into focus it goes immediatly into horizontal stretch. It's kind of wierd to look at... -

Panasonic GH4 vs Sony A7S compared - who wins the 4K battle on paper?
Nikkor replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I'm not talking about correcting exposure afterwards, it doesn't even work really well with 14bit raw files coming from a d800. You have to nail exposure on the skin, which means bringing it into a place where you get enough information, but later on in post you might not want that exposure for the whole scene so you have to change it. With 10bit you might be able to use the correct exposure for the whole scene to begin with because you have 4times the information everywhere. I'm talking about skin here, but that's only one reason. I mean, this is well known, if there were no issue why would anybody want to use 10bit. -

I exagerated a little bit, but there is really a problem with skin tones when using flat profiles in a 8bit codec, it just doesn't look natural anymore and you have to nail exposure otherwise they will look terrible, so in a lot of cases you will need to light the faces to make a shot possible (when there is a lot of DR). 10bit would make that a little bit more flexible. Anyway, I plan on buying this beast once it comes down in price and there are good recorders. -
I have traveled a lot with a D3 and you get used to the size pretty quickly, and once you get used to that body there is no way back (at least for me). So to me the body size is an advantage, if it had a EVF it would be also great for video because it has a very natural fit into hands and good big lenses don't tend to make you unstable.

Fullframe is a must for me to go medium format the cheap way. I've finished a small version of my medium format speedbooster and it works, but I need a a7s because on my nikons I can only focus a few inches away and the quality isn't that great. On the groundglass the story is another, the quality seems better and the focus goes to infinity. Can't wait for metabone to come up with a perfect one.

DR is worthless if you have to put it into 255 values (8bit), if you shoot flat = banding, if you shoot with a normal tone curve=low DR. Anyway, that doesn't mean the a7s will be terrible. -

Legally there is no doubt. But for example, let's take that song you are talking about, it only has value left because of the people who heard it, the music itself is just poor pop music. The other day they asked tarantino why they wouldn't hire a composer to do the music on his films, he said something like that he can't think of any composer making a music score with "soul". I can imagine, specially when talking about taratino, that the soul he mentions is the music, the context plus memories, and that's not something you can actually own. But obviously they make a lot of money on that fact, on the lives of others. I would like to get compensated by the music labels because it bothers me a lot having to listen to all the shit everywhere. -

Laaa laa lah la la la la la la la la la lahh, la la laa... Do I have to pay now? Da da da dada da daaaa -
At some point samsung, if the market is still big enough, will enter the competition in a serious way. But for us they aren't really attractive because the mount they use has a long flange focal distance that makes speedboosters unviable.

He changed to 120fps, so it's showing rolling shutter at 720p@120p, 1080p and 4K will be another story.

But the G4 does it in 4K, the A7s only in 1080p. The 4K 420 will have more color resolution than the 422 1080p. Oh and it's not even true... -

The DOF adapters projected a 35mm surface (because they were designed to work with FullFrame lenses), this one projects a much bigger one (because it works with 6xX lenses) -

You are missing the fact that the video shows a very good image (have you seen the crops that he shows in the video?) and that he states that light performance stays the same. The DOF adapters I know were very dark and fuzzy. Another thing to keep in mind is that compared to 35mm DOF adapters, this one has a 4x larger surface. This means the grain is much finer. Can't wait for the second part.
