Surprise! Sony Alpha A6000 video mode huge improvement
Nikkor replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I was refering to the newer models 550D onwards, the 20D is a little bit older ;) -
The problem is if you want to shoot such a movie you need good actors. Good luck finding any. Finding a character (may it be a face or a interesting figure) and having him walkin around and making looks is a lot easier. Add some shallow depth of field to create ambience where there is none and you have a filmic impression.

Andrew, there is a nikkor 50 1.2. It goes for around 300-400€ on ebay zermany. I guess you know but just in case (maybe the speed booster is not compatible...). For very tight spaces the samyang 24 1.4 might work ( I have the nikkor 28 1.4 so I never really thought of it)

Fuck yeah, I never thought of it. You are my master now. [edit] Now I really need 10bit files, oh god I'm loving it... Ohhh man I am sooo happy right now...

It's also the same setup, although some shots look to be more 50mm but I guess that's because of the wide aspect ratio. If anybody wants to grade like that on a nikon just PM me. Instagram is easy.

Turn off audio and see if it changes.

Surprise! Sony Alpha A6000 video mode huge improvement
Nikkor replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
This sounds reasonable, but only if you don't have another canon that takes video because they are all the same (or almost). Any canon aps-c camera gives image quality on the level of 2008, they are outdated, any actual sensor design is a lot better. -
One topic that would be great given the recent resurge of "videoish vs filmish" would be taking stills from actual movies and finding out or guessing the lens, aperture, asa, pushing, film,lighting,etc... The next step would be trying to copy the shot (not exactly, just the general set up) with the cameras and lenses you own, and trying to color correct to give it the same density. this blog is a great way to start (the site is a little bit slow) http://evanerichards.com/

Surprise! Sony Alpha A6000 video mode huge improvement
Nikkor replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
If I had to choose between both I would go with the Sony because it's better in image quality and video quality, and the autofocus looks pretty damn good. -
The epic is the reason why a lot of people in the video world think 4K is just a marketing thing. It's actually great that one year after ML RAW we are comparing compressed video to it, something that was completly out of question just a few month ago. The most videoish thing is sharpening slighly out of focus areas, or footage shot above f4-5.6 which on m43 is already totally into diffraction area, there is nothing more ugly than sharpened diffraction.

This won't work because it creates shadows. If you want to use something like this on a A7 I don't see the reason to use anything nikon related. Just use the mirex adapter from mamiya 645 to Canon EF. You can adapt all MF glass to mamiya 645, and EF to E adapters are cheap.

There was a video showing bad rolling shutter, but the guy who made it said that it was actually something like the 7D. The GH4 also seems to have rolling shutter like the 5DMKII/7D. We will see.

Must resist....

Looks great, the A7's are like cheap Digital Backs. The only thing that sucks is that it's only 11bit (product shots...). I wonder how the microlenses behave with extreme shifts (I was told that it makes stiching impossible)
-
Have you tried the lens on another camera? It might be broken.

I bought a mamiya 645 lens adapter sinar plate that allows shifting the lens in 2 directions +-20mm, then I bought a sinar front standart, two macro rails, an a big lens collar (I'm going the cheap route ;)). I still need to find a mamiya 645 reverse mount, glue a short nikon macro tube, with this I connect the nikon onto the sinar shift plate, and use any medium format optic on the front holding it with lens collar which sits on the macro rail (So I can focus with any lens). I also need some bellow to put between the sinar front standart and the lens. I prefer this to panorama stitching because I get a perfect rectilinear image. But yes, a A7 without mirror is more convenient, the live view and mirror slapping turns me off too.

Max, for Architecture get this, or build it on your own: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/forum/index.php?topic=86669.0 I have a similar project in the making for my d800 so I can use it on a Sinar and do some stiching.

It looks like shooting with a 18mm kit lens @f22 on my nikon d90, but in 4K!!!!!

I love therefore I am a dinosaur.

I think ML RAW is great for planned shots.
