Common IPS TV/monitor has contrast ratio of 1000 which 10stops. Common VA TV/monitor panel has native contrast of 6000 which is about 12.5 stops OLEDs has 1 000 000 of contrast which is ... enough Modern devices with IPS Mini-LED has contrast about 10 000 (+/-5000) which is 13-14 stops 8 stops is bad DR by any standard. DR is very important for me. Sony Fullframe's S-log2 DR is the minimum I accept (sometimes not enough) S-log3 is fine for me, but I'd take happily even more. This is just for family video.

Comparing the Canon EOS R7, R10, Fuji X-H2 & Panasonic S5 II
Superka replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I see no reason to buy Fuji as it has problematic AF (for many lenses), is 1.5x crop, pricey, poor RS (XH2) CMOS streaking of Panasonic S5 scares me (saw it in CVP review), I doubt S5II will be better Canon r8 for 1500 is the most atractive. Remember, each FF cameras doing well in 1.5x crop too, so they are 2in1. -
Comparing the Canon EOS R7, R10, Fuji X-H2 & Panasonic S5 II
Superka replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I cannot bare poor Roll.Shutter on X-H2, R7. I'd go for Canon R8, or Panas S5-II. R6-II also super attractive, CVP likes its ergonomics. -
My Sony a7c is almost useless with S-log3 because of streaking, not even in bright bcklight, but on every dark imge parts. Streaking also present in S-log2, but occasionaly. Please tell if a7-IV has it?
-
About the streaks on Panasonic GH6. My Sony a7c has the same. Fuji X-T3, 4 also does. Why Gerals never told about it on those cameras?

For me the Photo-off-Video switch is the only really bad thing. When filming my kids I often want to take picture and that must be immidiatly. I don't care about IBIS

I think an open-letter video letter for Canon must be created, asking them not to do this. With DSLR I can frame shot with camera switched off (in sleep mode). This for me is great advantage, when taking landscape, cityscape shots. Mirrorless needs to be waked up each time. Andrew said Fuji are mirrorless, - yes, but Fuji have optical VF cameras!

Thoughts on the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro - why EF mount?
Superka replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I absolutly AGREE with BMD about EOS Mount. Huge choise of Canon and others manufacture lenses .Lenses are good and for any budget! Those who wants to use Ef and ef-s lenses will be happy to use them without adapters. Still with EOS you can use NIKON, Russian lenses with adapters. ND filters construction on this cam may not be suitable for others flange distances - my guess. I thanks BMD for EF-mount! -

Shooting with a 4K pocket camera - the exceptional Panasonic LX100

+1! I love shooting neighborhood with it. Though I bought it for video, it appeared to be really nice photocamera with lovely colors. The only thing I wish (from successor) is V-LOG. -
Shooting with a 4K pocket camera - the exceptional Panasonic LX100
Superka replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Does anybody still use LX100? I I still love it, though feel the lack of DR often. -
Hello Mattias! My genius tripod plate problem fix.

Panasonic cannot compare to Sony, because of Panasonics poor autofocus.

I don't see any real reason to look at GH5 at all, when there are SONY a6300/6500. Bigger sensor, less noise, S-LOGs included, autofocus, and much cheaper. just for 10bit 4:2:2 400Mbit/s? Not for me.
-
canon has more DR and less noise, no metabones needed. I don't trust Paasonic skin tones at all. Canons 150mbit/s is perfectly good for me. Canon is so much better, that's really no contest.

I thought as AaronChicago.

I've worked with film scans for some time, when creating CG for movies. I love film since that time, and shoot film (photos) mostly since 2008 year. Film is fantastic. The feature I love most - extremely large DR, unachiavable for digital, but what even more important the Characheristic curve of film expose is creating very soft highlights. I also love film images for its details, but without sharpening feeling. We call this plasticity, but I not sure it's the right English word. Film has no hard edges. But has lots of details. Well, I should mention film colors, of course. Film colors and its "plasticity" (plastique) creates very pleasant general feeling. O.K., Shane Hurlbu made the test. But that's a wrong test, he didn't manage the film right, and I am not agree with his conclusions. But I assume that lot of people will love digital picture more. But you should know "the point".

Canon interview at Photokina 2014 - 7D Mark II - Magic Lantern - and moire
Superka replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
About EOSHD opinion: I'm also 34 and I prefer Optical Viewfinder much more for photo. I don't understand why you always stress talk about EVF/LCD, it doesn't matter for video. DSLR can have good video too, as Nikon D810, only flip LCD is a must for video. Thank you for your interview, it was interesting! Did you see DPreview interview? http://***URL removed***/articles/7079726133/photokina-2014-canon-interview-mirrorless-in-the-very-near-future DPreview: One thing we know from our own testing is that Canon DSLR sensors can’t quite compete with some modern sensors from Sony in terms of dynamic range. How important to you is developing sensor technology? Canon: We are very focused on getting the best image quality. I’m not sure what measurements you’re looking at but when it comes to dynamic range for example we consider image quality as a whole, from low to high ISO sensitivities and on balance we consider our sensors to be the best. My ideal camera is one that can take a picture in any environment from complete darkness to the brightest sunshine. It looks like Canon is satisfied with their product completely! -
Arri goes 6K 65mm with the Alexa 65 at CINEC in Munich
Superka replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
The camera of this type can influence the framing. More wide-angle composition would be used in any kind of movie: drama, action, nature documentary. And that's good!
